'Save The Malayan Tiger' Campaign Raises RM2.1 Million Since 2021
He said the donations were made possible through cooperation with various strategic partners, including the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), to raise funds and awareness on the importance of Malayan tiger conservation.
'So far, FAM has contributed about RM200,000 to the Save the Malayan Tiger Campaign Fund through proceeds from football match ticket sales. Once again, I would like to thank FAM,' he said here today.
Also present were Peninsular Malaysia Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim and FAM president Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub.
Johari, who is also the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, said this in a speech delivered by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii when officiating the national-level Global Tiger Day celebration, held annually on July 29.
Meanwhile, Johari said the Cabinet had, on June 16, 2021, agreed to implement extraordinary strategic actions for Malayan tiger conservation over a 10-year period from 2021 to 2030.
He said these actions encompassed three approaches: intensifying efforts to halt population decline, improving governance and implementation effectiveness in conservation, and strengthening initiatives to ensure the long-term survival of the Malayan tiger.
'Monitoring conducted by Perhilitan with support from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) has shown a rise in the Malayan tiger population.
'This is a positive indicator of the success of ongoing efforts, including habitat conservation through international accreditation and recognition schemes,' he said.

SANDAKAN: The Education Ministry approved the relocation of the 118-year-old Sekolah Menengah Sung Siew here to a new 25-acre site at Batu 4 near Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Sung Siew. The approval letter was handed over during a ceremony at the school on Saturday, witnessed by Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh during his official working visit here. Also present were Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee, Sandakan District Education Officer Roslin Siabok, school principal Kwok Chee Yen, SM Sung Siew School Board Chairman Vun Soon Chong and representatives from the Sabah Education Department and alumni. The Ministry granted the approval on June 25, following a request submitted four years ago by the school, Sandakan District Education Office and Sabah Education Department. Kah Woh hopes the relocation approval would expedite the construction process. The current school, built on 2.24 acres owned by the Basel Christian Church Malaysia, would move to the new site at Batu 4, where Sung Siew's primary and preschool sections have already been operating for several years after relocating there. 'Over 80 per cent of students live near Batu 4 residential areas which was a key factor in the decision. Our priority is to provide the best educational access for all students here,' he said. Meanwhile, Vun Soon Chong thanked the Ministry, the Sabah Education Department and the District Education Office for the approval, adding that the school board, parents and staff had been actively fundraising for the new campus through charity events and marathons. Earlier, Kah Woh visited SK Sri Tanjung Papat I and SK Sri Tanjung Papat II in Kampung Sim-Sim, which currently share premises after the latter was destroyed by tidal waves in 2018. Following discussions with parents, the Ministry would seek a new site for SK Sri Tanjung Papat II to accommodate the growing number of students. The Deputy Minister also inspected SK St Mary Town and SK St Mary Labuk, where the Ministry has allocated RM185,000 for upgrading works, including a new canteen. ‘Just like football, can't rely on the sole striker': Johari urges Umno team unity ahead of GE16
SHAH ALAM, July 27 — UMNO members have been advised to continue working as a team, which is free from internal squabbles, in preparation for the next general election. UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the formation of a machinery as a solid team could prove decisive towards achieving success in the general election. 'In football, when we play against another team, you can't just rely on one striker. If you only have one performing striker, while the rest are not, it'll be difficult. So, we must play as a team. 'If the team is right, solid and has no squabbles, particularly in facing the general election, Insya-Allah, 50 per cent of the battle is won. The others depend on issues cropping up in the government and the country,' he said after officiating the Shah Alam UMNO Division delegates meeting here today. Johari, also the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, advised UMNO members to consider the views of the younger generation, in particular, who form 40 per cent of the total number of voters nationwide. 'They have a very different thinking compared to our ancestors. This happens globally when our audience, who are 18 years old, can automatically become voters. 'If we, as a party, cannot understand the thinking of our youngsters, how are we going to cultivate and constantly produce young leaders who understand?… our problems will be bigger next time. Commenting on the statement by opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin yesterday that the opposition is considering tabling a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament, Johari said each Member of Parliament (MP) has the right to do so. 'In this Parliament, any MP can table that motion (of no-confidence). Nobody can stop it. 'So, the motion is tabled in Parliament… then we will see who has the support and who hasn't.
