WWE faces backlash after reportedly blocking R-Truth tributes on RAW

Image via WWE The WWE Universe is up in arms after reports emerged that the company allegedly blocked talent from wearing R-Truth merchandise during the June 2 episode of Monday Night RAW. The decision, which coincided with news of R-Truth's WWE exit, sparked backlash both backstage and online. According to WrestleVotes, WWE management gave specific instructions to talent not to wear R-Truth shirts on air, a break from long-standing locker room tradition. In the past, performers have honored injured or departing colleagues with subtle tributes, including wearing their merchandise. But this time, the directive was different. Interestingly, Dominik Mysterio wore a Carlito shirt during the same episode - raising eyebrows about the inconsistency. Popular merchandise pulled without warning Adding to the growing unease, WWE reportedly removed R-Truth's 'Ron Cena' t-shirt from its online store. Once a top seller thanks to R-Truth's popular parody character, the shirt's sudden disappearance fueled fan speculation. The lack of an official explanation only intensified criticism. On social media, fans and wrestling commentators didn't hold back. Comments ranged from calling the move 'a disgrace' to likening WWE's current environment to 'the dark Vince McMahon era.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo One post even suggested WWE was acting like 'a dictatorship.' R-Truth, real name Ron Killings, has been a staple in WWE for more than two decades. Known for his comedic flair, unpredictable promos, and crowd-friendly antics, he struck a rare balance between humor and heart. His antics with the 24/7 Championship and 'Ron Cena' persona made him one of the most entertaining acts on WWE television. Beyond the laughs, Truth was widely respected behind the scenes. His positivity, professionalism, and ability to connect with fans of all ages earned him admiration from peers and fans alike. No official word from WWE As of now, WWE has not issued any public statement on R-Truth's reported release or the alleged apparel restrictions. This silence has only deepened the frustration among fans, many of whom believe the company mishandled the situation. With R-Truth's contract reportedly set to expire by mid-2025, there is speculation that this exit could be part of broader roster changes or creative restructuring behind the scenes. Their loud chants of 'We Want Truth' during RAW and even at the following night's NXT tapings are a powerful reminder of his enduring popularity. For many, he isn't just a comic relief act — he's a symbol of joy and authenticity in a product often criticized for feeling overly scripted or corporate. In an era where WWE is undergoing significant transformation under the TKO Group banner, moments like these show that fan sentiment still holds weight. R-Truth's legacy, built on heart, humor, and connection, is proving difficult to silence - even without the merchandise. Whether WWE decides to respond or stay silent, the reaction to R-Truth's exit shows that fans will continue to fight for the performers they believe in.

Trump signs order to double steel, aluminium import tariffs to 50%

New Delhi: A 50% tariff on steel and aluminium imports into the United States went into effect on Wednesday, doubling the previous rate as President Donald Trump cited national security concerns for the dramatic escalation in trade protections. The new tariff rates, increased from an earlier 25% rate, were announced by Trump in a statement on Tuesday. The president claimed legal authority to impose the tariffs through Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, which allows the president to address national security risks arising from imports. 'In my judgement, the increased tariffs will more effectively counter foreign countries that continue to offload low-priced, excess steel and aluminium in the United States market and thereby undercut the competitiveness of the United States steel and aluminium industries,' read Trump's statement released by the White House. Trump said the earlier 25% tariff rates, first announced in February and implemented on March 12, had helped America's steel industry but had not enabled companies to maintain the capacity needed to meet national defence needs. 'I have determined that increasing the previously imposed tariffs will provide greater support to these industries and reduce or eliminate the national security threat posed by imports of steel and aluminium articles and their derivative articles,' Trump said. The tariff increase comes amid broader trade disputes at the World Trade Organisation. Several countries, including India, have formally challenged the US measures, characterising them as 'safeguard measures' that violate WTO rules and threaten retaliatory action. In May, India formally notified the WTO that it viewed America's tariffs on steel and aluminium as safeguard measures and indicated it could suspend 'concessions and other obligations' given to the US and that it retains the right to enforce retaliatory measures. On May 22, America rejected India's characterisation of the tariffs as safeguard measures and refused to engage in talks on the matter. The introduction of tariffs has proven controversial within the US. The America Iron and Steel Institute, an industry group, has welcomed the increased tariffs as a necessary measure to protect domestic producers from cheaper foreign competition. However, manufacturers using steel as input for production have publicly raised concerns that more expensive steel will impact competitiveness across other domestic industries. For India specifically, the consequences are direct and substantial. According to the Global Trade Research Institute (GTRI), a New Delhi-based research group, India exported $4.56 billion worth of iron, steel, and aluminium products to the US in FY2025, with key categories including $587.5 million in iron and steel, $3.1 billion in articles of iron or steel, and $860 million in aluminium and related articles. 'These exports are now exposed to sharply higher US tariffs, threatening the profitability of Indian producers and exporters,' the GTRI said in a brief.

Govt starts process to hire VCs for 13 varsities

Bhubaneswar: Govt on Wednesday invited applications for the appointment of vice-chancellors of 13 state universities. The universities were facing difficulty in making important policy decisions and conducting faculty recruitment due to the lack of permanent VCs and faculty members, which the TOI had highlighted in a series of reports. The higher education department has invited applications from eligible applicants for VCs of 13 state public universities — Utkal University and Rama Devi Women's University, Bhubaneswar, Ravenshaw University and Madhusudan Law University, Cuttack, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University, Baripada, Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur, Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, Khallikote Unitary University, Berhampur, Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri, Rajendra University in Balangir, Dharanidhar University in Keonjhar, Vikram Dev University, Jeypore, and Maa Manikeshwari University, Kalahandi. VC appointment is necessary to start the process for the recruitment of faculty members. Teaching and research work have been affected due to the lack of faculty members. Candidates must submit their applications by July 5. Applications are invited from eligible applicants below 66 years of age on Dec 1, 2025, for the VC posts. "Applicants intending to apply for more than one university must submit a single application clearly indicating their order of preference, with the most preferred university listed first," read the official notification. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The notification stated the order of preference must also be clearly specified in the Higher Education Information Management System (HIMS) module. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview before a three-member selection committee. The venue and schedule will be communicated in due course, higher education secretary Aravind Agrawal said in the notification. Official sources said the interview dates will be fixed for different universities on different dates, and applicants are required to attend the interview for each university separately. The 2020 amendment Act said all teachers of a university would be appointed through Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). However, the Odisha Universities Amendment Act, 2024, clearly states a selection committee will be formed to recruit faculty members by following UGC guidelines. The committee will be chaired by the vice-chancellor of the university or his/her nominee. The faculty selection committee will include an academic not below the rank of a professor nominated by the chancellor. It will have three subject experts selected by the VC from a panel of names recommended by the syndicate. Other members will include the dean of faculty or head of the department, along with an academic from ST/SC/OBC/women/minority/PWD as per the candidate present, to be nominated by the VC.
