DHA boosts patient data security with AI
Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced on Sunday the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within the 'NABIDH' system to enhance patient data security and privacy, in cooperation with Imprivata.
This milestone reflects DHA's leadership in digital health transformation and its commitment to adopting advanced digital healthcare solutions, reinforcing patient trust and strengthening Dubai's position as a global hub for digital transformation.
The announcement was made during a special event attended by Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director-General of DHA, alongside leading healthcare officials, decision-makers, and technology experts, to discuss the future of digital healthcare in Dubai.
Al Ketbi highlighted the Authority's strong commitment to safeguarding patient data and privacy through a sustainable strategic approach that embraces cutting-edge technologies. This, he noted, significantly enhances the efficiency of the healthcare system, creating a patient experience built on trust in the management of health data.
He stated that integrating AI into the 'NABIDH' system demonstrates DHA's dedication to establishing a safer, more efficient, and sustainable digital healthcare environment that meets patients' evolving needs.
Al Ketbi emphasised DHA's efforts in building a comprehensive healthcare system that adheres to the highest global standards in patient data protection.
He also reaffirmed DHA's commitment to investing in advanced digital solutions in collaboration with strategic partners to strengthen the efficiency of the healthcare system.
This supports Dubai's objective of becoming the smartest city in the world, where AI serves as a strategic partner in shaping the future of healthcare.
He highlighted that DHA's strategic partnership with leading companies to strengthen Dubai's capability to lead the future of digital healthcare.
The Authority has successfully unified over 9.53 million patient medical records within an integrated electronic system, linking more than 1,500 healthcare facilities to 'NABIDH.'
Additionally, 82% of Dubai's medical workforce is now actively engaged with the system, marking a significant achievement in DHA's commitment to comprehensive digital transformation and the establishment of a healthcare environment characterised by transparency, sustainability, and security.
The successful implementation of the Patient Privacy Intelligence (PPI) system as part of the NABIDH initiative, reinforces Dubai's commitment to pioneering digital healthcare transformation.
NABIDH, which stands for Network & Analysis Backbone for Integrated Dubai Health, is a cornerstone of DHA's strategy to digitise healthcare services. The initiative ensures that each patient has a single, comprehensive electronic medical file accessible across all healthcare providers in Dubai. This effort enhances efficiency, minimises errors, and enables a more personalised patient care experience.
With the integration of Patient Privacy Intelligence, DHA has taken a significant step in strengthening data security and compliance across its healthcare network.
The system proactively monitors and prevents unauthorised access to sensitive patient records, ensuring robust protection of Personal Health Information (PHI).

Egypt Licenses 16 Fintech Firms to Boost Nonbanking Sector Digitisation
Sixteen companies have received fintech licenses from Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to support the digital transformation of the nonbanking financial sector, FRA Chairperson Mohamed Farid said on Monday (May 26). Four companies are currently registered to offer outsourcing services, with more expected to follow. Speaking at the Caisec25 information security and cybersecurity conference in Cairo, Farid said around 110 institutions now meet the FRA's cybersecurity requirements. He noted, however, that the FRA oversees more than 3,500 entities across various financial activities. The four outsourcing firms operate under a dedicated FRA registry and provide electronic identification, verification, and authentication; digital customer onboarding; electronic contracting; and digital record storage and retrieval. Farid said the FRA aims to build a secure environment that strengthens the nonbanking sector's role in the economy. 'As the regulator of the nonbanking financial sector, which includes capital markets, insurance, and financing activities, the Authority places significant importance on cybersecurity,' he said. 'This involves developing policies and systems to protect customer data and ensure market stability.' He added that the FRA recognises cyberattacks and data breaches as major threats. 'The accelerating pace of digital transformation creates opportunities but also increases cyber risks,' he said. 'This requires urgent development of policies and systems that support sound fintech governance.' Farid also pointed to rapid developments in artificial intelligence, saying institutions must be prepared to manage associated risks and recover from disruptions. 'We need a resilient nonbanking sector that can use technology effectively while handling risks efficiently.' He said building technical capabilities must be matched by improving workforce skills. 'The human element remains central. Specialists in cybersecurity must ensure continuous and comprehensive training for staff.' This follows a recent push by the FRA to digitise financial services, driven by executive decisions under Law No. 5 of 2022, which provides a legal framework for using technology in nonbanking finance.

Dubai Maritime Authority Launches Remote Inspection Service for Marine Vessel Licence Renewals
The Dubai Maritime Authority has launched a Remote Technical Inspection Service, streamlining licence renewals for pleasure marine vessels, water sports crafts, and foreign visiting vessels up to 12 meters in length. Announced as part of the Authority's digital transformation efforts, the new service allows customers to complete technical inspections virtually—eliminating the need for in-person visits. It is designed to enhance service quality, save time, and align with international safety and operational standards. Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the Dubai Maritime Authority, said the initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to simplify government services and eliminate bureaucratic hurdles through advanced digital solutions. 'The service supports operational efficiency and ensures customers have seamless access to maritime services that promote compliance, continuity, and satisfaction,' said Sheikh Saeed. Through the Authority's online portal, customers can schedule appointments, complete payments, and receive a secure link to join a virtual inspection session. During the session, customers follow an inspector's guidance to present required components as outlined in a pre-approved checklist. All sessions are recorded—with prior consent—in line with Dubai Maritime Authority's transparency and digital governance policies. After the inspection, a report is sent via email and uploaded to the customer's online account. Hamed Hassan, Director of the Maritime Registration Department, said the service reinforces Dubai's commitment to innovation in public services and enhances the maritime sector's efficiency without compromising safety or regulatory standards.
