NACSA, Kaspersky release Malay online safety book for kids
NACSA chief executive Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin said the translation marks a significant step in cultivating cybersecurity awareness from an early age, in line with efforts to educate a digital-native generation increasingly exposed to online risks.
'Statistics show that nearly 60 to 70 percent of children today spend more than three hours online daily. This increases their vulnerability to threats such as online grooming, which is becoming a growing concern in our country.
'For instance, in online games, children may unknowingly engage with individuals they believe to be peers, when in fact they may be impersonators with malicious intent seeking to obtain personal information such as location, passwords and more,' he said.
Dr Megat Zuhairy was speaking at the launch of Midori Kuma dan Perlumbaan Yang Sangat Istimewa, the Malay-language version of the children's educational book, at the Petaling Jaya Community Library today.
Also present at the event were Kaspersky's head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Asia Pacific, Heng Lee; Petaling Jaya City Council legal officer, Mohd Yusof Che Aziz; and Petaling Jaya Community Library senior assistant director II (Knowledge Resources) Zainal Abidin Rahim.
Megat Zuhairy said the storytelling approach used in Midori Kuma helps convey cybersecurity messages in a way that is accessible and effective not only for children but also for parents, teachers and the wider community.
Meanwhile, Heng Lee said the book is more than just a children's title; it forms part of a broader Kaspersky-led initiative across the region to equip children with the knowledge they need to grow up in a safe, informed and resilient digital environment.
'Children today are growing up as digital natives, instinctively curious and constantly connected. They need the right guidance to navigate this universe of possibilities,' he said.
He also cited Kaspersky's Digital Habits Report, which found that 61 percent of children receive their first digital device between the ages of eight and 12, while 11 percent are introduced to such devices even earlier.
Heng added that the data highlights the importance of building healthy digital habits from a young age, and this book provides a simple yet meaningful way for parents and children to learn about online safety together.

Block raises annual profit forecast on resilient consumer spending; shares jump
Block Inc logo is seen displayed in this illustration taken, April 10, 2023. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo (Reuters) -Block reported a rise in second-quarter income and raised its expectations for annual gross profit on Thursday, as the payments firm was helped by resilient consumer spending, lifting its shares 12% higher in extended trading. Businesses and individuals have continued to spend on essential products, even as they have cut back on discretionary expenses amid macroeconomic uncertainty. The Jack Dorsey-led firm now expects 2025 gross profit of $10.17 billion, up from the $9.96 billion it forecast earlier. Its Cash App, which enables peer-to-peer mobile payments, reported a gross profit growth of about 16% in the second quarter ended June 30. This was slower than the 23% growth it reported in the year-ago period. Block's Square segment — which provides payments solutions to small and medium-sized businesses - reported a 11% rise in gross profit from the year-ago period. This was driven primarily by the company's software and integrated payments and banking products, as it continued to move upmarket and expand market share in target verticals, Block said. The company also allows its users to buy and sell bitcoin, the transaction fees of which directly affects its profit. Bitcoin revenue fell to $2.14 billion in the quarter ended June 30, from $2.61 billion in the year earlier. The crypto industry rebounded, and bitcoin touched several record highs, in the quarter as users got more regulatory certainty over their holdings through bills like Genius Act and Clarity Act. This led to investors holding on to their digital assets in hopes of higher returns, and in turn, hurting the buying-selling volume. Market volatility usually pushes trade volumes up. On an adjusted basis, the company reported net profit of $385 million, or 62 cents per share, in the second quarter, compared with $301 million, or 47 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Shares of Block have lost nearly 10% in 2025 due to market volatility and a profit forecast cut, significantly underperforming the broader market. APAC industries face rising ICS cyber threats
VIETNAM: Key subregions in the Asia Pacific (APAC) continue to face a barrage of cyber attacks on Industrial Control Systems (ICS) computers, according to Kaspersky's latest data. Kaspersky ICS-CERT reported that Southeast Asia ranked second globally by percentage of ICS computers where malicious objects were blocked in the first quarter (1Q) of 2025, while Central Asia ranked third and South Asia sixth. APAC Kaspersky managing director Adrian Hia said ICS computers in the region recorded a higher infection rate of 23 per cent in the second quarter of 2025, nearly three percentage points above the global average of 20.54 per cent. He noted that in 2Q 2025, a new wave of phishing was blocked on ICS computers in the oil and gas sector in APAC. "This time, known spyware families like FormBook, AgentTesla and Noon were directly attached to the emails. Kaspersky solutions blocked all these attacks," he told the Cyber Security Weekend 2025, here today. Citing ICS-CERT data, Hia said APAC is also among the top regions by virus detections, two to three times higher than the world average. The most affected industries include power energy, building automation, oil and gas, manufacturing, as well as ICS engineering and integration. Although viruses are often considered legacy threats, they can cause operations disruption in the event of an outbreak, and they drive up maintenance costs. Hia said the most affected APAC industries by virus threats in 2Q 2025 were power energy, building automation, oil and gas, manufacturing and ICS engineering and integration. "The most affected countries in terms of virus on ICS computers in 2Q 2025 were Vietnam, Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and Nepal," he added. To counter the escalating threats to critical infrastructure, Kaspersky urged the adoption of a layered cybersecurity framework, anchored by an intelligence-driven Security Operations Centre (SOC). "This framework should start with prevention by using tools such as brand protection, attribution engines and compromise indicators, while also relying on incident response, penetration testing and cyber drills to minimise damage and accelerate recovery," Hia said. He added that integrating IT and operational technology (OT) security through centralised SOC systems with real-time visibility will be crucial to ensuring resilience as APAC industries move towards greater digital and operational convergence. "With IT and OT integration set to accelerate in the years ahead, cybersecurity strategies in APAC must continue evolving, bridging both domains to secure operations and ensure resilience in an increasingly connected world," he concluded.
