'Out of LA: Contemporary Voices' highlights paintings, sculptures and mixed media works that touch on the LA wildfire disaster
Participating artists incldue Cleon Peterson, Ed Ruscha, Kour Pour and more notable names
Miami-based opa projects is showing a group exhibition featuring works by eight notable artists from Los Angeles whom were affected by the Southern California wildfires that took place this past January. Entitled Out of LA: Contemporary Voices, the group presentation features a range of diverse works, encompassing painting, sculpture and media, that channel themes of survival, renewal and resilience. Participating artists include Cleon Peterson, Ed Ruscha, Kour Pour, Emily Ferguson, Jessica Taylor Bellamy, Kenny Scharf, Nicholas Shake and Zoe Walsh.
Highlights include a life-sized work by Peterson entitled 'Between Fate and destiny I' painting that features his primitive, dark figures in a clashing scene as well as Ruscha's 'FAST FROM' (2019) acrylic work on paper that touches on his experiments with text. 'I like the idea of a word becoming a picture, almost leaving its body, then coming back and becoming a word again,' said Ruscha. Bellamy's 'Pastime paradise' (2025) oil painting, is perhaps one of the more noticeable works reflecting the wildfires, that displays a chaotic composition of an LA Times newspaper with the headline 'California's climate apocalypse' as it melts against a backdrop of burning leaves.
'In this moment of rebuilding, Out of LA honors the artistic voices that define this city—not through nostalgia, but through action, expression, and an unshakable belief in creative future-building,' said the gallery in a statement.
'Out of LA: Contemporary Voices' is on view through July 10.

Gen Z Woman Runs Into 40-Year-Old, Has Sudden Realization About Millennials

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After learning that the friend she thought was 29 was, in fact, turning 40, 27-year-old Brooklyn-based comedian Amelia Ritthaler turned on her camera. She shared a thought that has resonated with thousands of viewers online: millennials, it seems, have been 31 for over a decade. Posted on July 26, Ritthaler's candid clip has been viewed more than 323,000 times to date. In it, she said: "Millennials have made aging obsolete, because every millennial I know is 31, and they have been 31 for 11 years. I ran into an acquaintance the other day who I had understood for the last three years to be 29 years old … He was, like, 'I am so excited for Leo season, I am turning 40.'" Ritthaler captioned the post: "Forever31. Y'all are legit timeless to me." Speaking to Newsweek, Ritthaler said: "I have always found it funny how millennials seem to be perpetually cast as 31-year-olds, both in media and in real life. A lot of shows about early-20-somethings star actors in their mid-30s, and the lines between 'young adult' and 'actual adult' feel blurrier than ever." For Ritthaler, the observation goes beyond a comedic punchline. "Especially in places like New York, many 30-somethings are still living like recent college graduates, not because they want to, but because financially and socially, traditional milestones like buying a home, settling down, or having kids feel increasingly out of reach," Ritthaler added. "Add in the skincare revolution, wellness culture, and better sun protection, and millennials genuinely look younger than previous generations did at the same age. "It's like a whole demographic got paused at 31! They even look younger now than they did in 2012 when they were in business casual at the club!" Ritthaler added. The video's popularity did not surprise her—but the reaction did, especially the amount of people that agreed with her. From left: Amelia Ritthaler speaks in a TikTok video; and poses next to a microphone. @ameliapleease In recent years, more creators have pointed toward the millennial generation's attitude to aging and how it differs from Gen Xers and baby boomers. Movie moments such as Steve Martin and Diane Keaton's turns as 45-year-olds in Father of The Bride (1991) have long been poked fun at online due to the clothing and hairstyles they were styled in that would look too dated on today's middle-aged. "I especially loved how millennials responded to this video," Ritthaler said. "After years of getting dragged online for every possible thing, they were basically foaming at the mouth for a rare moment of flattery. "I said they looked young and hot, and the collective 'THANK YOU FINALLY' energy was hilarious and kind of sweet." The idea that millennials appear ageless is not purely anecdotal. Georgina Gleen, a registered nurse and independent nurse prescriber at NAD+ At Home, told Newsweek she sees a clear shift in not only how millennials look, but also how they view aging. "Millennials have grown up with greater access to health and wellness information, and they have embraced a more-proactive approach to aging," Gleen said. "Rather than waiting for issues to arise and treating them reactively, they are looking at prevention—so from skincare and nutrition through to supplements like NAD+ and personalized wellness routines." Gleen added that the generation's appearance is often a reflection of deeper lifestyle changes. "The youthful appearance many millennials maintain into their 40s and 50s is likely linked to how they are far more conscious of sun protection, hydration, mental well-being and sleep," Gleen said. "Millennials do not see aging as a steady decline, but as something you can influence with the right knowledge, tools and habits." 10 Best Oyster and Wine Pairings, According to Experts

Oyster and wine service at Claudie in Miami. Claudie When it comes to pairing wine with oysters, it's most typical to witness a bottle of white or sparkling wine on the table accompanying them. It's rare you'll see a bottle of red wine because white and sparkling wines have more compatible qualities to match the distinct yet delicate taste of oysters. 'The goal is to complement the briny, mineral-rich, and subtly sweet flavors of the shellfish without overpowering them,' shares Dimitris Zafeiropoulos, global beverage director at estiatorio Milos. Further, the white wines should be crisp and mineral driven 'to enhance the oyster experience without distraction,' explains Petr Landa, sommelier at The Fulton by Jean-Georges, emphasizing that all white wines are not necessarily to be paired with oysters. This means, avoid pairing overly oaked or full-body white wines with oysters. Below, discover 10 of the best oyster and wine pairings as told by six drinks experts. Sparkling wine and oysters is a classic pairing as the bubbles combined with the higher acidity refresh the palate after a briny bite. A new personal favorite comes from Chandon in Napa, a cool climate Reserve Blanc de Blancs (100 percent Chardonnay) of which their winemaker, Pauline Lhote, informs she specifically crafted "with the acidity and salinity to pair as the 'ultimate oyster bubbles.' 2. Domaine Gadais 'Navineaux-Amphibolite' Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie This Muscadet is elegant, refreshing and at Claudie in Miami it is poured by the glass with 'the sole purpose to drink it with oysters,' shares head sommelier Fernando Araiza. 'Muscadet has great acidity that counters the richness of oysters,' says Araiza, and because this particular bottle is aged on the lees, it has the body weight to match the texture of the oyster. 3. Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett This summer, Araiza says he had 'the most delicious oysters' of his life. He was in Lège-Cap-Ferret where the oysters were 'super briny' so that it called for a pairing with a touch of sweetness. Araiza paired it with this Kabinett-level Riesling from Mosel, Germany and discovered an entirely new layer of complexity. 'Who doesn't like the pairing of something sweet with something salty?' shares Araiza. 4. Emilio Moro El Zarzal Godello 2023 Michael Coyne, director of wine and spirits of Stanly Ranch, Auberge Resorts Collection in Napa Valley likes to pair Godello with many things from the ocean but especially with salty, acidic foods like oysters spritzed with mignonette and lemon. 'Godello always reminds me of eating oysters on a sunny day by the sea,' shares Coyne. 'In Sonoma County, this means Hog Island [oysters], but it could be in Marseilles, Rias Baixas or anywhere coastal.' 5. Robert Young Clone 17 Chardonnay East and west coast oysters can offer different flavors and textures; at Willi's Seafood & Raw Bar in Healdsburg, general manager Jay Wyant-King is passionate about pairing oysters with wines that accentuate their regional nuances. 'When it comes to east coast oysters, like the delicate Beau Soleils from New Brunswick, we reach for a richer white such as Robert Young Clone 17 Chardonnay,' shares Wyant-King. 'Its velvety texture and layered flavors complement the oysters' subtle sweetness and minerality beautifully.' 6. Skouras Assyrtiko Wild Ferment 2023 Assyrtiko is a white grape that's native to Santorini, but on the Greek mainland, wine regions have found success with it, like the Peloponnese-based Skouras. "This wine has bright citrus zest, flinty minerality, and a saline edge, with notes of lemon peel, green apple, and crushed rocks,' explains Landa. The wild ferment adds some extra texture and complexity while keeping its high acidity and saline backbone that make it work so beautifully with oysters. 'The sharp mineral core cuts through the creaminess, and that citrus lift brings out the oyster's natural sweetness. It's like a liquid squeeze of lemon, but with structure,' adds Landa. 7. Domaine Zuria 'Aria' Rosé This rosé is all about coastal herbs, grapefruit pith, white peach, and sea spray, Landa prefaces. 'It's crisp, aromatic, and lightly salty — basically, it tastes like the Mediterranean coast in a glass.' Landa describes how the wine's seabreeze freshness and herbal lift really echo the oyster's oceanic origin. 'The light bitterness and acidity keep the palate refreshed, and the dry, refined texture makes it an easy, elegant match." 8. Parparoussis 'The Gift Of Dionysus' Sideritis, Achaia For another unique wine from Greece's Peloponnese region, Zafeiropoulos highlights Sideritis, an indigenous variety that produces an exceptionally aromatic profile. 'You'll often find notes of green apple, pear, and a hint of citrus blossom,' explains Zafeiropoulos. He says it's an ideal oyster pairing because of its bright acidity and subtle saline finish. 'The acidity cuts through the richness of the oyster, while the touch of salinity echoes the taste of the sea, creating a harmonious and refreshing experience.' 9. Petrakopoulos Robola Classic On the Ionian island of Kefalonia, Robola is an indigenous grape that produces a white wine with both elegance and complexity. 'The Petrakopoulos Robola is known for its delicate aromas of white peach, citrus, and a chalky, mineral undertone,' says Zafeiropoulos, adding its balanced texture of refreshing acidity and subtle creaminess is what makes it a key to its success with oysters. 'It's a sophisticated pairing that speaks to the subtlety and finesse of both the wine and the oyster.' 10. Domaine Dominique Belluard 'Eponyme' Savoie 2020 Though many of the best wine pairings for oysters come from coastal vineyards, Landa points to this wine produced from the French Alps' native Gringet grape for its 'alpine purity.' He continues: 'Wines from Savoie are great with oysters because of their mountain minerality and racy structure. Eponyme's subtle aromatics and crystalline acidity don't overpower, they highlight the oyster's delicacy and give you a clean, elegant finish after each slurp.'

Sabrina Carpenter's Lollapalooza Headlining Set Review

Sabrina Carpenter's highly anticipated return to Lollapalooza was just the sendoff her iconic Short n' Sweet era deserved. Not only did it mark her comeback to the Chicago-based festival since 2023, but her last performance this summer before her seventh album, Man's Best Friend, drops later this month. It's a complete 180 compared to the last time I watched her sing on the eve of Short n' Sweet's release, when she pretty much secured her Grammy with a performance of 'Please Please Please' on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Now, she's got two golden gramophones under her belt with another record on the horizon and a headlining gig at one of the biggest music festivals in the biz. While it may not have been my first time seeing her live, it was my first time in Chitown for Lolla, thanks to an invite from T-Mobile to check out the hottest club in town: Club Magenta. As a pop culture editor who's constantly frolicking across festival grounds, I was personally saved by the unmatched VIP access I was given in the exclusive area all weekend. The elevated, shaded lounge kept festival-goers cool, connected, and close to the action with merch giveaways, free drinks from 6 to 7 p.m. every day, and, of course, a perfect view of the T-Mobile stage, where Sabrina headlined. Maybe it was the delicious stream of cool air, my constant clutch of Club Magenta's complimentary portable chargers, or the ice-cold drink in my hand, but I knew I was in for an absolute treat during Sabrina's set. Thanks to these perks, I realized that maybe I'm not meant to live an uncomfortable life during festival season. So, consider me spoiled—it's what S.C. would want. Sabrina's vocals are stronger than ever, her hooks are sticky-sweet, and her pen? It's always been criminally sharp. The pint-sized pop star has always been larger than life through her dry humor and infectious stage presence, which kicked into gear when she opened the show with 'Busy Woman.' Her '60s-inspired stage set mirrored that of her ongoing Short n' Sweet Tour and the pastel retro aesthetic she's embraced since 2022. She kept the vibes going with tracks like 'Good Graces,' 'Coincidence,' and 'Slim Pickins.' Then, it was time for her to bring 'Manchild' to the U.S. Lollapalooza marked her first performance of Man's Best Friend's chart-topping lead single in the states, which resulted in a sea of lingerie-clad and platform-stomping festival-goers flawlessly executing her cheeky TikTok choreo in the crowd. I'll admit, hearing thousands of people scream 'stupid,' 'slow,' and 'useless' was probably one of the best things I've experienced during a live show—after all, we were working late, 'cause we're singers. Obviously. A similar feeling took over once she burst into 'because i liked a boy,' except there was a sense of serenity that came from the woman singing it before us. When it was released in 2022, Sabrina was in the thick of a headline-making love triangle that we don't even know to be true. Three years later, she's become so much bigger than that—so much so, that she brought out Chicago natives Earth, Wind & Fire for a performance of 'Let's Groove' and 'September' immediately after. Seeing musical icons from a certain era mesh so seamlessly with new-age talent not only gave me goosebumps, but also reminded me that the beauty of such moments is universal. It truly felt like an honor to witness, so I can't even imagine what it'd be like on stage. And, while half the internet was probably holding out hope that fellow Lollapalooza headliner, Olivia Rodrigo, would be Sabrina's 'Juno' girl, it ended up being another headlining act, TWICE. The moment was sweet, and while there was no 'Juno' position, the joy of getting low, screaming 'I'm so fucking horny,' and jumping right back up to dance is irreplaceable. Of course, the show closed with the song that catapulted Sabrina into mainstream superstardom, 'Espresso.' No matter how overexposed it is at this point, moments like these only get better when you realize the whole world is finally listening. Whether you've subscribed to Sabrina's stardom since 'Can't Blame a Girl for Trying' or discovered her on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, one thing's for certain: She always believed she was on top. I had long seen her potential after watching her perform—at the Radio Disney Music Awards, of all places—in the early aughts of her career. Then, in between her Disney departure and big break (thanks to a cup of 'me espresso'), I found songs like 'Paris' and 'In My Bed' in my rotation. It wasn't until she released her first album under Island Records, emails i can't send, that she broke out of being cast as a footnote in someone else's heartbreak saga—she had her own story to tell, in her voice. And, corniness aside, there's comfort in knowing such synergy can happen after years of working hard and self-belief. No matter what our dreams are, we're constantly sold the story of an overnight sensation. Sabrina is a prime example that a meteoric rise isn't for everyone—she's rightfully earned every accolade and headlining gig, despite being told that her slow and steady steps toward greatness made her the tortoise instead of the hare. Well, now she's at the top of her game and on top of the world.
