Brevis fires as Proteas cruise to victory in T20 opener
Ngavara then came back to uproot Hermann's off stump to make it 130/5 in the 15th over before Corbin Bosch led the team home with an unbeaten 23.
Earlier, Sikandar Raza played a captain's knock to help Zimbabwe reach their total of 141 for six.
He scored an unbeaten 54 runs off 34 balls, which included three boundaries and two sixes.
His innings, combined with a 66-run partnership with Ryan Burl, saved the Chevrons' innings.
The Proteas bowlers started the innings on a good note after skipper Van der Dussen won the toss and elected to field first.
They restricted Zimbabwe to 34/1 after the first power play.
Lungi Ngidi claimed the scalp of Wessly Madhevere (1) in the second over, when the batter stood on his wicket.
Two overs after the first power play, and in his first over, Proteas wrist spinner Nqaba Peter rattled Clive Mandade's (8) stumps.
Brian Bennett, who shared a 31-run stand with Mandande, followed to the dressing room for 30, leaving the home side in a spot of bother on 55 runs for three wickets halfway through their innings.
Bennett was deceived in the air by George Linde and holed out to Reeza Hendricks, who was stationed a few metres inside the fence at deep midwicket.
Raza and Burl then started to pick up the pieces with their stand.
Their running between the wickets was carried out with urgency and their shot selection was precise.
They ensured their team made it past the 100-run mark with five overs remaining.
Raza was more of the aggressor.
He reached his 14th career T20 fifty, and at the time Zimbabwe were looking at a total above 150.
But that tempo dropped after Burl was dismissed by Nandre Burger for 29 runs off 20 balls.
He was caught at long-on by Ruben Hermann after failing to clear the ropes.
In the last over, Linde picked up the wicket of Tashinga Musekiwa for nine runs and removed Tony Munyonga for a golden duck.
He finished with the economic figures of three wickets for only 10 runs in his three overs.
New Zealand are the other side in the series and they play their first fixture against SA on Wednesday (1pm).

Proteas not fazed by Walter's insider knowledge, says George Linde
When the Proteas face New Zealand at the Harare Sports Club in their second match of the Tri-Nation Series on Wednesday (1pm), the familiar face of Rob Walter will be in the opposing dugout. Walter coached the Proteas white-ball team for two years until April and there is no doubt he will know the tactical strengths and weaknesses of most of the players, having worked with them in the national set-up and watched them on the domestic circuit. The Proteas beat Zimbabwe by five wickets in their opening game on Monday and a win against the Black Caps will put them in the driver's seat for the rest of the series. Proteas spinning-all-rounder George Linde, who picked up three wickets for 10 runs in the Zimbabwe game, said on Tuesday they are not too concerned about Walter having inside intel. 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞 ⚡ There's always action when he has ball in hand 😮💨🇿🇦 #SAvZIM | #SSCricket — SuperSport 🏆 (@SuperSportTV) July 14, 2025 He said the Proteas contain fresh faces and have a few surprises in their bag of tricks. 'It is probably not the A-side or the proper Proteas side,' he said. 'Most of the guys are resting after the Test championship. 'There are guys who want to do well and make their mark in the team. Everyone plays differently now than they did months back.' Like the Proteas, the Black Caps are not at full capacity, missing top batter Kane Williamson and quick bowlers Lockie Ferguson and Kyle Jamieson. There is also the chance they will be missing Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra for the game on Wednesday as they have joined the squad late after appearances in the Major League Cricket competition. Linde said the remaining players in the Black Caps squad, who last played the white-ball format in April, are going to put up a decent fight. Among those will be South African-born batter Devon Conway, who played in the SA20 for the Joburg Super Kings. 'If you look at their squad, they have played a lot of cricket. Most of their guys have been involved in county cricket, they have played in America and the Indian Premier League. 'So I think they've played quite a bit of cricket — and so did we, as well. So it's obviously going to be a good game and hopefully we'll go one ahead of them,' Linde said. The Proteas have won four of the last five games between the two sides, but remarkably they have not played each other in T20s since 2017.

Kolisi back for Boks against Georgia as Wiese gets four-match ban
Siya Kolisi returns from injury to take over the Springbok captaincy for the first time this season in a squad including three debutants named by coach Rassie Erasmus for Saturday's last Incoming Series match against Georgia at Mbombela Stadium. Bok No 8 Jasper Wiese has been suspended for four matches after a headbutt on Italian prop Danilo Fischetti in the Springboks' 45-0 victory on Saturday, ruling him out of the side's eagerly-anticipated clash with the All Blacks at Eden Park. Boan Venter, Marnus van der Merwe and Neethling Fouche will make their international debuts against Georgia. Venter, who was called up to the squad in June as injury cover at prop, will start in a new front row with fellow prop Fouche and hooker Van der Merwe, who both had their first taste of Springbok rugby in the team's 54-7 victory against the Barbarians last month.
