Telangana Narcotics Bureau cracks Goa drug money laundering network, seizes Rs 50 lakh cash hidden in washing machine
HYDERABAD: In a recent crackdown on interstate drug and money laundering networks operating out of Goa, the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) has unearthed a complex web of financial channels linked to foreign drug cartels. During the operation, the police arrested three persons and seized drugs and laundered cash worth crores.
On June 4, TGANB officials discovered Rs 50 lakh stashed inside a washing machine during a raid in Goa. The agency had been tracking suspects and their laundering methods based on data collected over weeks. The breakthrough was announced on Saturday. A few days ago, the agency arrested a drug peddler from Nigeria, allegedly the kingpin.
According to officials, two TGANB teams were stationed in Goa for three days, conducting round-the-clock surveillance at two key locations: Sangeetha Mobile Shop in Mapusa and Highland Park Apartments. Their objective was to observe the collection process — how local agents gathered cash and how the laundering kingpin orchestrated the movement of this money to Nigeria.
'We didn't intervene initially, as we wanted to understand the entire chain — from collection to transfer. On June 4, after confirming that two days' worth of collections had been completed, we raided the apartment and seized Rs 50 lakh in cash. Foreign nationals were seen handing over cash to local agents. Had we been delayed by even an hour, this money — hidden in a washing machine — would have been smuggled to Nigeria to fund foreign drug cartels,' a TGANB official said.
After the raid, the kingpin reportedly began communicating via WhatsApp, sharing images of Rs 5, Rs 10, and Rs 20 notes as coded signals for the amount to be handed over. Agents receiving someone with matching notes would pay them.

Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram One Town police busted a major job racket that duped several unemployed youth by promising jobs in the State Secretariat. Police arrested four members of the gang and recovered Rs 6 lakh from them. A total of nine individuals have been identified as accused in the case. Sujeeth, a key accused from Pradeep Nagar in Vizianagaram, played a major role by keeping the victims at a hotel near the Secretariat for a week, providing meals, and convincing them that their appointments were genuine. The victims believed they had secured jobs until they discovered the addresses mentioned in the appointment letters were fake. Realizing they had been duped, they approached the police. The investigation began following a complaint filed by Vinod, a resident of Dharmavaram in S Kota mandal. Acting on the complaint, CI Srinivas and SI Prasanna Kumar of One Town Police traced and apprehended the culprits. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mahesh (Vizianagaram), Rubin (Jangareddygudem), John (Eluru), and Yakub. The prime accused, Sujeeth, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital with illness. DSP said that they are searching for the other accused and will be caught soon.

Minister inaugurates police sub-division office in Dhone
Dhone: Minister for Roads & Buildings, Investments, and Infrastructure BC Janardhan Reddy inaugurated the newly constructed Police Sub-Division Office in Dhone on Saturday. The office, built at a cost of Rs.25 lakh, was formally opened in the presence of local MLA Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy and senior police officials. Criticizing the previous YSRCP regime, he said, 'The police force was misused for political vendettas in the past. Today, they function independently and with integrity. The public has regained trust in the police system.' He also credited Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his role in eliminating factionalism from the Rayalaseema region. 'It was through decisive governance and police cooperation that peace was restored. Former factionists now lead peaceful, prosperous lives thanks to those strong measures,' he said. He also said, 'after one year under the NDA coalition, the police have successfully restored peace in villages. We are proud of the work being done to ensure law and order, free from political bias.'
