Askari set for polymetallic field program alongside Namibian tin mine

Askari Metals is set to launch a phase one exploration campaign at the company's prospective EPL 7626 area, one of three exploration licences within the company's Namibian polymetallic Uis project.
The licence is contiguous with and about 4 kilometres northeast along strike from Andrada Mining's operating Uis tin mine, which hosts a JORC-compliant estimated mineral resource of 77.51 million tonnes averaging 0.79 per cent lithium oxide, 0.15 per cent tin and 82 parts per million tantalum.
Askari's planned field work includes mapping, rock chip sampling and tenement-wide soil geochemical sampling.
The proposed work will be undertaken by Askari's African exploration crew under the guidance of the company's chief exploration and project manager, Clifford Fitzhenry.
Fitzhenry, a geologist with 21 years' experience, joined Askari two years ago in a then-new role of chief exploration and project manager in Africa. His appointment was a key part of Askari's exploration strategy to accelerate its drilling and development program at its flagship Uis lithium project.
Askari says soil sampling is the company's preferred means of conducting low-cost, effective exploration for buried lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites in the EPL 7626 licence area.
An LCT pegmatite target is a specific type of granitic pegmatites, which have geological and geochemical characteristics that help exploration companies identify lithium-caesium-tantalum-style pegmatites. The pegmatites may also include tin, niobium and rubidium.
Following the soil geochemistry, the company can follow up and refine its priority targets with trench sampling.
A previous in-house remote sensing study across EPL 7626 identified zones with spectral tin-tantalite signatures characteristic of mica schists, which were also mapped on another of Askari's nearby licence area, EPL 7345.
The company believes mica schists in this second licence area continue northeast beneath Andrada's Uis tin mine and into the EPL 7626 area, most likely beneath cover.
Askari based the remote sensing study on Sentinel-2 multispectral satellite imagery, which can differentiate rock types, map regolith units, and identify surface mineralogy.
The company is now setting up for a licence-wide soil sampling program on an initial 200 metre by 200m sampling grid to pick up any geochemical anomalies associated with buried pegmatites.
The program will comprise about 54 square kilometres and will collect about 1407 samples.
The company will determine any next work from the results of the first phase soil geochemical program on EPL 7626 and will design a follow-up infill sampling program to further test any anomalies encountered.
Askari also expects to receive assay results from its first phase trenching program at EPL7345 over the next few months.
This means that further work on the greater Uis project will comprise a second phase of infill soil geochemical sampling, followed by first phase trenching program at EPL 7626, and then a first phase trenching program on a third licence area.
In other work, Askari is progressing its Ethiopian gold strategy and its Tanzanian uranium strategy and is currently reviewing some prospective projects for potential acquisition.

Argonaut Funds Management's David Franklyn joins Stockhead to share investing secrets from the high-conviction resource sector investing fund, including his junior stock pick of the month. Aluminium smelters are in dire straits, with over capacity led from a commodity hungry China keeping a lid on prices and treatment charges at the same time as power prices elsewhere hobble the power munching processing plants. In recent days South32 (ASX:S32) has flagged plans to close its Mozal smelter in Mozambique by March 2026 after failing to come to terms with the southern African government on a new power supply deal. And back home, the majority Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) owned Tomago smelter near Newcastle is communicating a doomsday scenario to its workforce with a power supply deal with AGL to run up in December 2028. Plans to supply the Tomago plant with renewables will not be viable without government subsidies, Tomago's CEO has previously warned. Yet demand for aluminium remains strong, mirroring the inflection of other commodities linked to decarbonisation and electrification like copper – for which it is often a lower cost alternative – and tin. With smelting on the nose, the best place to look for value could be at the very start of the alumina and aluminium production process. The key raw material used in the supply chain, bauxite, is having a renaissance, having seen prices in key market China run to record highs late last year. "China are the big buyer of of bauxite, but their production has been declining for some time, so they now import something like 70% of their bauxite requirements," Argonaut Funds Management's David Franklyn says. Around 74% of that now comes from Guinea in West Africa, the dominant supplier of high grade, low silica bauxite, with between 22-23% from Australia. Rising demand, uncertain supply Demand continues to increase. The International Aluminium Institute predicted in 2022 that usage will lift from 86.2Mt pre-Covid to 119.5Mt by 2030, around 40% higher. That's already playing out in China's hunger for bauxite imports. "In the first half of this calendar year, China imports increased by 33%. Right. So the dynamic is pretty good as far as emerging increasing demand from China," Franklyn said. At the same time, the status of key supplier Guinea is uncertain. There's around 220MT of producing capacity for bauxite in the country. But around 27Mt is sensitive to weather in a locale that gets close to 4000mm of rain a year, half of it in just two months in July and August. Close to 60Mt comes from licences that have been revoked by the country's ruling military junta in a crackdown on foreign producers. "There's the normal political gyrations that you see, which is causing some nervousness and buyers wanting alternative supplies," Franklyn noted. "But more recently, what they've done is they've been revoking a number of the mining licences and that's getting up to significant volume, we're talking about somewhere between 40 and 60 million tonnes." Prices in China climbed as high as US$125/t for Guinean bauxite, which typically grades over 45% Al2O3 and has ~3% silica. They've slipped to US$74/t with Guinea's bauxite exports hitting a first half record of 99.8Mt to June 30. But with the wet season upon us supplies could get ropy heading into September. The premium for Guinean over Australian bauxite has slipped, with high grade but also high silica Australian bauxite trading at US$69.50/t. "I just think that the demand-supply dynamics are looking pretty interesting, and you'd suggest that prices are likely to be supported around current levels." Argonaut's stock of the month Aluminium, alumina and bauxite options on the ASX include Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) and South32 (ASX:S32), who capture the full value chain but as diversified producers are largely not priced on their aluminium business units. American-headquartered Alcoa Corporation (ASX:AAI) is a major alumina and aluminium producer in Australia and North America, but doesn't ship raw bauxite. At the smaller end of the market, there are a handful of junior explorers and developers such as Western Yilgarn (ASX:WYX) and the recently listed VBX (ASX:VBX). But it's the Queensland producer Metro Mining (ASX:MMI) that makes the grade as Argonaut's August stock pick. A recent purchase for the Argonaut natural resources fund, Franklyn says the business' rising production profile and reducing cost base make the Cape York producer an attractive proposition. "Simon Wensley is the MD. He came in three or four years ago when the business was in a bit of trouble, largely because of a lack of scale and its costs were too high," Franklyn said. "It was producing 3-4Mt per annum. Its, shipping was relatively small scale and expensive and its operating costs reasonably high. "And so when prices came down, basically, I think it was squeezed." More recently, the Bauxite Hills operation has been expanded to a target production rate of 6.5-7Mtpa, with improved barge and trans shipping infrastructure cutting logistics costs. MMI is aiming to chase further improvements by shipping with capesize vessels, chasing a status as the 'lowest cost operator' in the seaborne market. It generated about $16m in cash during the June quarter, when shipments rose 19% YoY to 1.7Mt. Between 4.8-5.3Mt of the Weipa style bauxite is expected to be shipped in the second half of the year before the traditional December-March shutdown. "So you'd expect there's going to be an acceleration in free cash generation. They've still got a lot to do, they've still got some debt (which has) been coming down," Franklyn said. "But when things were very tough they had to get high cost debt. Ideally in the next 12 months, they should be able to pay that all off. "Their net debt is about $60m, market cap's about $420m."So I just think the business is turning around and I think on those kinds of numbers, it's looking attractive. "But there's always that scope where you get a spike in the bauxite price and then they'll do exceptionally well." Critical minerals shift from extraction to processing

With 25.3 million tonnes of contained graphite, it is expected to support a mine life of at least 70 years – meaning it could one day power not just electric vehicles, but the robot workers and storage networks of Australia's long-term clean energy future. 'Graphinex's Esmeralda Project is a clear example of Australia moving up the value chain,' says managing director Art Malone. 'Our demonstration facility in Townsville produces material that exceeds battery anode specifications, and we are scaling toward full commercial production.' That kind of capability matters because graphite is not just another mineral. It makes up more than 90 per cent of the anode in lithium-ion batteries. As electric vehicle and storage demand grows, graphite has emerged as a strategic chokepoint – and China controls more than 98 per cent of its global refining capacity. 'Natural graphite is now officially classified as a critical mineral in all jurisdictions like the US, EU, Japan, and Australia,' Malone says. 'Yet over 98 per cent of anode material is currently processed in China. That creates a vulnerability in global supply chains and a massive opportunity for Australia to step in with secure, ESG-compliant alternatives.' Geopolitical reality According to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence's Enabling North American Graphite Growth report, China's dominance of graphite refining represents a fundamental strategic risk. In 2023, China supplied 72 per cent of the world's graphite and 92 per cent of the high-purity anode material used in lithium-ion batteries. By 2028, Benchmark projects China will still supply 65 per cent of global graphite and 86 per cent of anode material. The report notes that 'barring concerted action,' China will continue to control the market. That dominance extends across both natural graphite ­– mined and refined ­ and synthetic graphite, manufactured from petroleum feedstocks. The report frames this not just as a trade or investment problem but a national security issue. 'Lithium-ion batteries are a critical component of many emerging advanced technologies, including many with national security applications,' it says. In that context, securing reliable, non-China graphite supply is not optional, it's strategic. Australia's industrial policy is catching up to this geopolitical reality. With the federal Critical Minerals Strategy, Queensland's Critical Minerals Fund, and agencies like NAIF and the Office of the Co-ordinator General behind early-stage projects, the conditions for downstream investment have improved. 'Policy support has improved and needs to move fast and coordinated,' Malone says. 'This is something the Queensland government does well.' The Townsville demonstration facility is a product of that convergence – a project that has secured institutional backing from Japan's Idemitsu and Indonesia's Baramulti, along with funding from government sources. The site produces qualification-scale batches of active anode material (AAM) for testing by tier-one battery manufacturers. 'We're seeing strong strategic interest from downstream battery and auto manufacturers, particularly in the US, South Korea, Japan, and Europe,' Malone says. 'Governments are now offering financial incentives and trade policy support for non-China supply chains. Our engagement with US, Japan and Australian government agencies reinforces the geopolitical importance of what we're building.' High purity graphite Demonstration facilities are often seen as proof-of-concept. But in this case, the technical data is already drawing attention. Independent testing shows the material has a discharge capacity of 381.4 mAh/g, compared to an industry standard of around 355, and purity levels of 99.99 per cent – placing it in the premium performance category. The firm has already completed its pre-feasibility study and has now commenced a bankable feasibility study, along with permitting and financing discussions. Construction of its full-scale facility is expected to begin within 18 months. 'Financing will combine private capital, strategic investors, and government backed debt,' Malone says. 'Strong interest is already being shown by our global partners.' The economic potential extends well beyond graphite. Australia's broader ambition is to become a trusted hub for critical mineral processing across the battery value chain – spanning not just graphite, but lithium, nickel, and rare earths. 'Australia has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be more than a quarry,' Malone says. 'We can become a trusted midstream hub for critical battery materials.' In that vision, projects like the Townsville facility are a test case – not just for commercial success, but for whether Australia can turn strategic ambition into industrial capability. More than digging and shipping Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last says the plant means that the nation is well positioned to not only meet the strong global demand for critical minerals but also add value to the supply chain through additional processing. 'Queensland's mineral deposits are world-class, and we're proud to be a mining state. We want to see projects that go further than the 'dig it and ship it' approach,' says Last. He says the state government is investing in midstream capabilities to support critical mineral extraction and processing for our key critical mineral commodities including graphite, vanadium, and other materials. 'We've made it our mission to connect international investors with Queensland innovation, backed by the work of the resources cabinet committee to streamline approvals and get more projects off the ground,' says Last. 'We're pulling every lever to accelerate new developments, reduce approval timeframes and give industry the confidence to plan and invest. Graphinex's battery anode production facility in Townsville and planned Esmeralda mine is proof that the government's strategy is working, delivering real opportunities for regional Queensland and positioning the state as a global leader in battery materials, he says. If the race to electrification is also a race for industrial capability, then the work underway in northern Queensland may prove decisive. Not because it's flashy, but because it quietly answers the question: can Australia do more than dig? And this time, it's looking like the answer is yes for Graphinex.

Advance Metals has hit 1.11 metres at 2063 grams per tonne (g/t) silver equivalent to extend high-grade silver-gold mineralisation 60-70m down-dip in its final drill holes recently completed at its Yoquivo project in Mexico. Strong results from the final four holes in the company's maiden diamond drilling program at the Yoquivo silver-gold project in southwestern Chihuahua reinforce the project's high-grade potential. The 3111.4m program targeted the extensive Pertenencia vein building on an impressive, non-JORC compliant foreign estimate of 937,000 tonnes at 570g/t silver equivalent for 17.23 million ounces. One hole drilled in the lower northern portion of the Pertenencia Vein, intersected 7.6m at 116g/t silver equivalent – equating to 69g/t silver and 0.6g/t gold - from 298.79m, including 0.54m at 361g/t silver equivalent and 4.87m at 544g/t silver equivalent from 310.76m, with a peak interval of 1.11m at 2063g/t. 'The very high-grade results of up to 2584g/t silver equivalent in diamond hole YQ-25-007 were exactly what we were hoping to see from our maiden program at the Yoquivo project.' Advance Metals managing director Dr Adam McKinnon The hole's best grade was picked up within discrete silver-bearing sulphide veins that delivered a 0.59m interval assaying a whopping 2584g/t silver equivalent from 312.38m. Advance Metals managing director Dr Adam McKinnon said: 'The very high-grade results of up to 2584g/t silver equivalent in diamond hole YQ-25-007 were exactly what we were hoping to see from our maiden program at the Yoquivo project.' McKinnon said that, importantly, the intersection's position at the base of Pertenencia's existing foreign estimate extends high-grade mineralisation down-dip by at least 60 to 70m and bodes very well for future potential resource extensions. Three scoping holes drilled north of the foreign resource estimate also hit narrow, high-grade structures and confirm mineralisation continuity.
