A longtime WWE Superstar who has influenced countless wrestlers behind the scenes is retiring and calling it a career.
After a remarkable 25-year career in professional wrestling, former NXT UK Women's Champion Meiko Satomura is preparing for her official retirement match, scheduled for April 29th in Tokyo, Japan, under the banner of her co-founded promotion, Sendai Girls' Pro Wrestling. The announced bout will be a tag team encounter.

It will see Satomura alongside her trainee, the 20-year-old Manami, against the duo of Aja Kong and Sendai Girls Champion Chihiro Hashimoto. This final match has a background as Satomura shares a storied history with both Kong, a rivalry spanning decades, and Hashimoto, against whom she has clashed in previous years.
Despite this impending farewell match in Japan, Satomura remains listed on WWE's active roster and appears to still be involved in a coaching capacity for NXT. She maintained an in-ring presence for WWE in 2024 during the company's tour of Japan, with her last WWE match being a singles contest for the WWE Women's Championship against Bayley.

Her final televised match under the WWE banner was against Roxanne Perez at NXT Roadblock in March 2023. Satomura's extensive career began in the mid-1990s, when she competed in WCW during its attempt to establish a women's division. She also won numerous championship victories across various promotions in Japan.

That same year, Satomura also had the opportunity to train with then-SmackDown Women's Champion Sasha Banks at the Sendai Girls' dojo in Japan.
While she has been officially signed with WWE since 2020, her in-ring appearances have become less frequent. She has since focused on her role with NXT and occasional appearances in Japan, including events like Fortune Dream 9 and DDT Pro Wrestling's unique Toden Train Match, before this final, career-culminating bout in her home promotion.

U.S. Open: Biggest Names to Miss the Cut at Oakmont
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The halfway point of the U.S. Open is here, which means half the field is heading home. Oakmont Country Club brought the carnage as there were just five players at even par or better through 36 holes. There were only seven under-par scores in the second round alone, with a few players still having to finish up on Saturday morning. Sam Burns set the tone for the day with his historic 5-under 65 to get to 3-under overall. Max Greyserman and Jason Day each signed for 3-under 67s. Viktor Hovland shot a 2-under 68 to get to 1-under overall. He is in solo third and is two shots back of Burns. These guys had to minimize the mistakes to break par at Oakmont, and very few did. More Photo byOakmont flexed its muscles and sent home a lot of top-tier talent despite many of them being considered among the favorites. The cut line ended up being +7, and among those who made it by the skin of their teeth was the No. 2 ranked player in the world. Rory McIlroy let his emotions out on Friday by throwing his club and eventually destroying a tee marker. The Northern Irishman rallied and closed with two birdies in his final four holes to sign for a 2-over 72 and to sit at +6 overall. Biggest names to miss the cut at 2025 U.S. Open After 36 holes, it is wild to see the big-time names headed home with their tail between their legs. Let's look at the guys who will not get a part of the $21.5 million purse awarded by the USGA. — Ludvig Åberg (72-76) +8 — Wyndham Clark (74-74) +8 — Phil Mickelson (74-74) +8 — Min Woo Lee (75-74) +9 — Tommy Fleetwood (74-75) +9 — Bryson DeChambeau (73-77) +10 — Sepp Straka (78-73) +11 — Justin Thomas (76-76) +12 — Justin Rose (77-77) +14 — Shane Lowry (79-78) +17 Five European Ryder Cup players could not get anything going at Oakmont, which could be good for Team USA. Bethpage Black and Oakmont are slightly similar, being two of the most challenging golf courses in the world. The most surprising players on this list, though, have to be Shane Lowry, Ludvig Åberg, and Bryson DeChambeau. Lowry led for 54 holes in 2016 at Oakmont, and Åberg started the tournament with a decent score on his first nine. However, this venue gave them both fits and challenged them to their limits. DeChambeau, the reigning U.S. Open champion, struggled with his new irons. He shot a 7-over 77 on Friday. The Crushers GC captain was among the favorites this week. These guys are not even all of the popular names headed home early. Some honorable mentions that also missed the cut are Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, 2016 Oakmont US Open champion Dustin Johnson, Akshay Bhatia and Nick Dunlap. Report: Reason Jey Uso Dropped The Title Back To Gunther Revealed
After a 51-day reign as World Heavyweight Champion, Jey Uso dropped the title back to Gunther earlier this week on WWE RAW. The title change came as a shock to many, as Uso has been one of WWE's top merchandise movers for quite some time. So why was the decision made to flip the title back to The Ring General? Advertisement According to Dave Meltzer in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H made the call to take the title off Jey Uso so Gunther's match with Goldberg next month at Saturday Night's Main Event can be for the title. On the surface, this seems like a terrible decision as it erases a lot of doubt as to who will win the match next month in Atlanta. Without a title on the line, you could debate who would walk out with the victory. However, the match being for a title allows you to know Goldberg is going out with a loss. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more on Goldberg's upcoming match with Gunther as it becomes available. Check out which missing WWE star is backstage at SmackDown today (possible SPOILER)
As of this morning, we knew that tonight's (June 13) episode of SmackDown would feature opening round matches in the King & Queen of the Ring tournaments, but we didn't exactly know which ones. That has been clarified, as WWE is now listing the following three tournament matches for the show: Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest vs. Andrade vs. Shinsuke Nakamura Randy Orton vs. LA Knight vs. Aleister Black vs. Carmelo Hayes Charlotte Flair vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Candice LeRae vs. Chelsea Green This is Cody's first match on Raw or SmackDown programming (excluding dark matches) since February, per the data at CageMatch. It also means that Randy Orton is back on SmackDown tonight for the first time since he lost against John Cena at Backlash in early May. Advertisement Speaking of Cena, WWE is advertising him for the show too, along with United States Champion Jacob Fatu and Money in the Bank contract winner Naomi. In addition to the above information that's been officially announced by WWE, Fightful Select is reporting that Kiana James is backstage at SmackDown today. She last wrestled in WWE on a June 2024 episode of Raw, and was reportedly on the sidelines after that due to a leg injury. That she is backstage at SmackDown today doesn't guarantee she will be featured on TV, but it's at least a possibility. There's also yesterday's story about Hikuleo scheduled to be in the building tonight, which has led to speculation about his potential debut in The Bloodline as Talla Tonga.
