Atam: A hands-on tool for creative dance training gets patent recognition in India
According to Jayachandran, who along with several other dance teachers, used the tool on their students for his research, the combinations of movement that emerged made it seem like different forms of dance. Some felt like Ballet, some like our Tamil folk dances, some Mohiniattam, some Bharathanatyam, and so on.
Although it developed from the idea of helping his beginner-level students take interest in dance, especially his B.Tech students who had a dance course at IIIT-Hyderabad, the tool, he says, now offers more to advanced practitioners. 'It is helping practitioners to compose new dance moves. What was a teaching tool for students, has become a tool for the teachers today,' he concludes.

Tamil Nadus Fourth Auto Cluster Takes Shape with VinFast EV Plant
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Vietnam's VinFast has inaugurated its $500 million EV plant in Thoothukudi, a flagship project in Tamil Nadu's blueprint to build its fourth automotive cluster and position the southern port city at the heart of the state's all-electric future Gurugram, Haryana, India (NewsVoir) Once celebrated for its pearl fisheries, Thoothukudi has grown into a major port city and a cornerstone of Tamil Nadu's maritime trade. For generations, its docks shipped cotton yarn, salt and dried fish, sustaining the local economy. Now the city stands on the brink of another transformation. VinFast's 400-acre electric vehicle assembly plant in the SIPCOT industrial park has been launched on August 4, backed by an intial $500 million investment and a phase-one capacity of 50,000 vehicles annually. The project is expected to reshape Thoothukudi's industrial identity and anchor a new phase of growth in southern Tamil Nadu. Founded in 2017 as part of Vietnam's Vingroup conglomerate, VinFast rapidly became the country's top-selling car brand by 2024, its all-electric SUVs earning recognition in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. India, with its fast-growing EV market and supportive policies, was the next logical step. After evaluating 15 sites across six states, VinFast chose Tamil Nadu for its port access, strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and a proactive government committed to building the state's first all-electric vehicle cluster. The new plant will integrate welding, painting and final assembly under one roof, with the first vehicles—the premium VF 6 and VF 7 designed for Indian buyers—expected to roll out later this year. It forms the centerpiece of VinFast's broader plan for India, which is focused on building a comprehensive EV ecosystem. As part of this strategy, the company is partnering with RoadGrid and myTVS to establish hundreds of service centers, working with BatX Energies on battery recycling to create a sustainable closed-loop process, and collaborating with 13 dealer groups to launch 35 dealerships in 27 cities, ensuring wide sales coverage from day one. 'VinFast is committed to making EVs more accessible while contributing to economic growth through investment and local job creation," a company spokesperson said, positioning the brand as a 'global premium EV' that remains within reach of Indian consumers. Tamil Nadu's Blueprint for EV Clustering VinFast's investment fits Tamil Nadu's plan to expand EV manufacturing and push growth beyond its crowded northern hubs. Over the past four years, the state has drawn INR 7.51 trillion in investment, with southern districts now capturing nearly a third, a marked shift from the historical dominance of the north. Faced with the choice of expanding congested hubs or building new ones, officials opted for the latter. Thoothukudi stood out for its port access, abundant land and trained labor pool, offering a clear export edge. Under the plan, Thoothukudi is set to become Tamil Nadu's first all-electric automotive cluster and its fourth major auto hub, joining Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hosur. Common facilities for motor, power electronics, and battery production are in development, with a third for vehicle testing under review. An EV Taskforce is steering the initiative, coordinating with industry players to create a complete supply ecosystem. A parallel effort is underway to prepare the workforce. Through the state's flagship 'Naan Mudhalvan" program, hundreds of students have completed three weeks of training in technical, aptitude and communication skills, and VinFast has already taken on about 200 graduates. The company is shaping its staff with a hybrid 80–20 model in which the majority are local freshers or trainees, supported by a smaller group of experienced professionals. Together with its suppliers, the plant is expected to generate 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs, raising wages and offering steady employment. The effect is certain to extend well beyond the factory floor, since studies suggest that every job in auto manufacturing can generate another four to 11 positions, whether in component suppliers, transport and logistics, or in the shops and services where automotive workers spend their paychecks. Economic Ripples Beyond the Factory Gates VinFast's arrival underscores Tamil Nadu's bet on EVs as a path to inclusive growth, with Thoothukudi anchoring a new industrial corridor in the south. Its trajectory echoes other cities reinventing themselves, yet its scale and pace stand out, driven by state planning and VinFast's ambitions. Once known for pearls, Thoothukudi may soon be celebrated for thousands of battery-powered vehicles bound for markets worldwide. top videos View all (Disclaimer: The above press release comes to you under an arrangement with Newsvoir and PTI takes no editorial responsibility for the same.). Meet M Annadurai, who is likely to be Vice Presidential candidate of the 'INDIA' alliance, also known as 'Moon Man of India', famous for his...
New Delhi: The key leader of opposition parties held an online meeting on Monday evening and decided in principle to field a vice-presidential candidate. According to the reports, names of some probable candidates- including DMK-floated Mylswamy Annadurai, a space scientist from Tamil Nadu who had worked with ISRO – were also discussed. The leaders decided to hold more talks before finalising the Opposition candidate. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was authorised by the meeting to reach out to leaders such as Mamata Banerjee, Tejashwi Yadav and others. Some DMK members, reportedly at the suggestion of their leader MK Stalin, circulated Mylswamy's name. According to certain leaders, the DMK would prefer a Tamil candidate to counter the BJP-AIADMK move to leverage Tamil identity with NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan. The name of DMK MP Tiruchi Siva was also mentioned in some circles. Mylswamy Annadurai: All You Need To Know Mylswamy Annadurai was born on July 2 1958 in Kodhawady, Tamil Nadu He is an Indian aerospace engineer who held a number of posts with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), including the directorship (2015–18) of the U R Rao Satellite Centre (formerly the ISRO Satellite Centre). Annadurai in 1980 earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from the Government College of Engineering in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. In 1982 he received a master's degree from the PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore. He later was awarded honorary doctorates from several universities and was the recipient of numerous awards. Annadurai joined ISRO in 1982. He served as spacecraft operations manager for the IRS (Indian Remote Sensing)-1A, IRS-1B, INSAT (Indian National Satellite System)-2A, and INSAT-2B satellite programs. He held the post of deputy project director prior to being promoted to mission director of the INSAT-2C program and of the INSAT-2D, 2E, 3B, 3E, and GSAT (Geosynchronous Satellite)-1 programs. Annadurai was program director for India's lunar probes Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2. Chandrayaan-1 was launched from Sriharikota Island, India, on October 22, 2008, by a PSLV-C11 launch vehicle. As the project director (2011–15) of the IRS and Small Satellites Systems (SSS) schemes, Annadurai led five projects. His most highly publicized post was serving as program director of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), which was launched in November 2013 and entered Mars orbit in September 2014. In addition to performing his research and administrative duties, Annadurai wrote a popular science column for the Tamil newspaper Kungumam and lectured on science in an effort to interest young Indians in taking up scientific careers.

Mahatma's great grandson, or former ISRO scientist? INDIA narrows down its V-P list
A day after the BJP announced C P Radhakrishnan as the NDA candidate for vice-president, the opposition INDIA bloc met Monday to finalise its candidate for the contest. Sources said the Opposition has zeroed in on a couple of names and a final call would be taken Tuesday. At the late evening meeting held at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence, NCP (SP) Sharad Pawar is learnt to have suggested the name of author Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. The DMK, another key constituent of the bloc, has suggested the name of former ISRO scientist and Padma Shri awardee M Annadurai. With the NDA having fielded Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, the DMK finds itself in a spot and is keen that the Opposition field another leader from the state. Given that the NDA has the numbers to comfortably see Radhakrishnan to the post, the DMK fears that the BJP and AIADMK could use his election to vice-president as a poll issue in the Assembly elections next year. Earlier in the day, BJP Tamil Nadu state chief Nainar Nagendran declared the nomination of Radhakrishnan as 'a moment of Tamil pride' and urged the DMK to 'correct its historic blunder' of not supporting A P J Abdul Kalam for a second term as President. Sources said some more names, including that of a former judge, were discussed, but consensus seems to be largely around either Tushar Gandhi or Annaduarai. The Trinamool Congress has been keen on a non-politician as Opposition candidate, and sources in the party said both the names were acceptable to it. Annadurai served as programme director for Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 and the Mars Orbiter Mission. Top leaders of the INDIA bloc will meet again Tuesday noon to finalise the name, with sources saying Kharge will take a final call on the nominee for the September 9 elections. In the previous election for the vice-president's post, which was won by NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Trinamool Congress had abstained, after claiming that the Opposition had decided to nominate Margaret Alva without consulting it. This time, however, all the Opposition parties aligned with INDIA seem to be on board to field a joint candidate. If Tushar Gandhi is fielded, he would be the second relative of Mahatma Gandhi to be nominated for the post. In 2017, the Opposition had fielded Gandhi's grandson Rajmohan Gandhi as the candidate against NDA nominee M Venkaiah Naidu. The Opposition's decision to field a candidate against the NDA nominee is symbolic as the ruling alliance has the numerical strength to ensure an easy victory for Radhakrishnan. The Governor of Maharashtra currently, Radhakrishnan arrived in the Capital Monday, and called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi before being hosted by Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi along with senior NDA leaders such as JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha and Anupriya Patel of the Apna Dal (S) at his residence. 'Met Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji. Conveyed my best wishes on his being the NDA's Vice Presidential nominee. His long years of public service and experience across domains will greatly enrich our nation,' PM Modi said in a post on X. Joshi posted: 'Hosted the NDA meeting at my residence in Delhi. NDA leaders congratulated and welcomed the Vice President candidate Shri C P Radhakrishnan.' Sources said Radhakrishnan would be introduced to the NDA Parliamentary Party prior to the filing of his nomination on Tuesday. Union minister Bhupender Yadav and Civil Aviation Minister and TDP national general secretary Ram Mohan Naidu, apart from BJP leaders, were part of the contingent that received Radhakrishnan at the airport. Also present was Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who has been picked to be Radhakrishnan's election agent. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who has been appointed as his campaign manager, has been speaking with 'leaders across the political spectrum', seeking their support for the NDA's candidate. On Sunday evening, Singh spoke to Kharge, while Rijiju called up Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday and sought his support. With the NDA having fielded C P Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, the DMK is keen that the Opposition field a leader from the state. This could undercut any BJP-AIADMK attempt to cash in on Radhakrishnan's election in the Assembly elections next year.
