17 liquor shops in Indore district fined Rs 43.75 lakh for MRP violations

Indore, Jun 24 (PTI) The administration in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district has imposed a fine of Rs 43.75 lakh on 17 liquor shops for violating maximum retail price (MRP), an official from the excise department said on Tuesday.
A probe headed by Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari found that some shops were selling liquor at prices higher or lower than the MRP, he said.

Infosys got 50 acres of land to develop the new Kolkata campus at New Town. Initially, it started its operations on 17.5 acres of the new campus. Infosys invested Rs 426 crore for the facility and it is designed to accommodate over 4,000 employees in a hybrid working model. Infosys had said that the centre will enable them to work on cutting-edge technologies cross a diverse range of industries.

The Pune unit of the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the 53-year-old officiating principal of the government-run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Baramati after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the director of a private vocational training institute. The bribe was allegedly in exchange for appointing invigilators for the certification exams of the private institute's students. In a trap laid at a hotel in Baramati on Tuesday, the ACB arrested Avadhoot Bhimaji Jadhavar (53), the officiating principal of the Anantrao Pawar Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Baramati. The director of a vocational training institute that conducts courses for paramedic staffers had approached the ACB. 'As part of the procedures laid down by the government, the private vocational training institute was required to get invigilators from the ITI for the certification exams of certain subjects. The director of the vocational institute had sent a requisition to Jadhavar to assign invigilators for an exam of 45 students,' the ACB said. According to a press release by the ACB, Jadhavar demanded a bribe of Rs 90,000 from the complainant, or Rs 2,000 per student. The complainant gave Rs 10,000 to the accused in advance. As the accused continued to demand the remaining Rs 80,000, the complainant approached the police, the ACB said. The bribe demanded was then negotiated at Rs 40,000. A trap was laid at a hotel in Baramati. On Tuesday, Jadhavar was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant. Jadhavar was subsequently arrested.

Gorakhpur: The Railway Protection Force ( RPF ) of North Eastern Railway continued its vigilance in safeguarding railway property, curbing human trafficking under the Bachpan Bachao Abhiyan, cracking down on illegal ticketing networks, and ensuring passenger security, said CPRO, NER, Pankaj Kumar Singh. On June 23, the RPF unit at Lucknow Junction rescued an elderly woman who was separated from her family during travel. She was safely brought to the RPF post and later reunited with her relatives after proper verification, he said. In two separate incidents, the RPF and Crime Intelligence Branch arrested two people for illegal railway e-ticketing. One person was arrested with seven reserved tickets booked using five personal IDs from a shop in Basti and another was held near Jagdishpur, Azamgarh with eight tickets. The RPF also recovered and returned several lost items including bags, backpacks, and even a laptop, from trains and platforms at Basti, Sitapur, Chapra, Thawe, and Badaun to rightful owners after verification.
