Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday submitted a resolution to the National Assembly opposing the construction of new canals from the Indus River under the Green Pakistan Initiative, citing serious concerns from Sindh.
The resolution was submitted by Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan and signed by party leaders Zartaj Gul, Ali Muhammad Khan, and Mujahid Khan.
The resolution demanded an immediate suspension of the Cholistan canals project until the concerns raised by Sindh are addressed through constitutional mechanisms.
The party called for an emergency meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) within 15 days to ensure inclusive consultation among provinces.
PTI also demanded a neutral audit of the Indus River System Authority's (Irsa) water availability certification, to be completed within 60 days.
PTI insists that the water distribution outlined in the 1991 Water Accord must be enforced before launching any new canal project, especially ensuring Sindh's share of 48.76 million acre-feet and preserving the Indus Delta's ecological balance.
The resolution also urged public hearings and transparent decision-making with active input from Sindh's representatives, civil society, and affected communities.
The canal project, inaugurated in February, has triggered tensions between Sindh and Punjab. The Sindh Assembly passed a unanimous resolution against the initiative in March.

It said Iran has a right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The National Assembly reiterated that Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the The House called upon the government to immediately call for a meeting of the UN Security Council and the OIC to discuss, condemn and bring an immediate halt to the aggression on Iran. The condemnation comes after Israel said it targeted Iran's nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories and military commanders on Friday at the start of what it warned would be a prolonged operation to prevent Tehran from building an atomic weapon. Iranian state television reported that Hossein Salami, the chief of the elite Revolutionary Guards corps, had been killed and the unit's headquarters in Tehran had been hit. Several children had been killed in a strike on a residential area in the capital, it said. Selling pressure at PSX as geopolitical tensions flare after Israeli strike on Iran

Selling pressure was observed at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing nearly 2,500 points during the opening minutes of trading on Friday, amid an escalating geopolitical situation after Israel conducted a military strike on Iran. At 9:50am, the benchmark index was hovering at 122,533.32 level, amid a decrease of 1,559.80 points or 1.26%. Across-the-board selling pressure was observed in key sectors including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, OMCs, power generation and refinery. Index-heavy stocks including OGDC, PPL, PSO, MARI and HUBCO traded in the red. On Thursday, the PSX witnessed a modest correction, easing after a strong rally earlier in the week fueled by investor optimism surrounding the federal budget. The benchmark KSE-100 Index declined by 259.56 points, or 0.21 percent, closing at 124,093.12 points. Globally, stocks dived in early Asian trade on Friday, led by a selloff in US futures, while oil prices jumped after Israel conducted a military strike on Iran, sending investors scurrying to safe havens such as gold and the Swiss franc. The Israeli attack raises the risk of a fresh escalation in tensions in the Middle East, a major oil producing region, and comes at a time of heightened pressure on the global economy and financial markets from US President Donald Trump's shakeup of trade policies. Market reaction was swift, with U.S. S&P E-mini futures slumping 1.5% as of 0055 GMT and Nasdaq futures skidding 1.7%. Japan's Nikkei lost 1.4% and South Korea's KOSPI slipped 1.2%. Brent crude jumped more than 6% to $73.56 per barrel. Gold climbed 1% to about $3,419 per ounce. Israel said it was declaring a state of emergency in anticipation of a missile and drone strike by Tehran, after what it called a 'preemptive strike' over Iran's nuclear programme. Explosions were heard northeast of Iran's capital Tehran early on Friday, the state-run Nour News said. Two US officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said Israel had begun carrying out strikes on Iran and there was no US assistance or involvement in the operation. This is an intra-day update

PTI brands planning minister 'Goebbels'

Reacting to the planning minister's statement, a PTI spokesperson accused him of trying to become the 'Goebbels' of what he called a 'mandate theft' government. The spokesperson said the economic destruction under Ahsan Iqbal and his associates was unprecedented, and claimed the public understands the economy better than the ministers of the current government. He stated that for the past three years, the people have suffered due to the incompetence and poor decision-making of those in power. "The public cannot be misled by manipulated statistics, nor can those responsible for the economic collapse escape accountability," he added. The PTI spokesperson said citizens are the direct victims of the government's destructive policies, and have already rejected the current rulers. "Every segment of society sees the recent federal budget as a cruel joke," he asserted. He said that the only viable path forward is to hand over the reins of government and the economy to the true representatives of the people.
