Former Scots footie star accused of deliberately getting booked in gambling scam
A former SPFL star is due to appear in court accused of deliberately getting himself booked in an attempt to cheat at gambling.
Keaghan Jacobs, 35, is alleged to have picked up a yellow card on purpose while playing for Livingston in a Scottish Premiership league match against Celtic.
He is said to have 'acted in a manner whereby he would receive a yellow card for the purpose of enabling or assisting others to cheat at gambling ' during the clash at his team's Tony Macaroni stadium on October 6, 2019.
A second man, Conan McDiarmid, 40, is alleged to have placed bets – and arranged for others to take punts – on Jacobs getting a caution.

The case against Jacobs, from Edinburgh, and McDiarmid, from Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, called at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.
Proceedings against Jacobs were continued without plea to later this month.
McDiarmid's lawyer lodged a not guilty plea. A trial date was set for later this year.
The match involved in the alleged betting scam saw Livingston secure a 2-0 win, handing the Hoops their first defeat of the season. Jacobs was shown the yellow card by referee Willie Collum for a foul on winger Jonny Hayes as the game was coming to a close in the 95th minute.
Jacobs is a South African national who had two spells with Livingston between 2007 and 2015 and again between 2017 and 2022.
The star has played a total of 252 times for the West Lothian club and scored 23 goals.
He has also turned out for South African club Bidvest Wits, Falkirk, Arbroath and is currently playing with Lowland League club Gala Fairydean Rovers.
He is believed to have made football history when he played alongside his three triplet brothers – Kyle, Devon and Sheldon – in a Scottish Third
Division match between Livingston and Albion Rovers in April 2010.
The 2-0 victory in front of just over 600 fans is said to be the only time four brothers have turned out for the same professional senior team in the same match.
McDiarmid played as a defender with a number of amateur clubs, including Edinburgh United and Whitehill Welfare, before he retired in 2020 and moved into management.

Fraudster who swindled £630k from Scots farming firms through bounced cheques jailed
Barry Mackland pretended to firms that the cheques he presented to them for tractors and machinery would be honoured if they were handed to a bank. A fraudster who swindled farming firms out of £630,000 through a system of bounced cheques has been jailed for five years. Barry Mackland, 50, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Thursday. Mackland, of Aberdeen, caused the businesses to lose more than half a million pounds by obtaining the cash through false pretences between March 2022 and June 2022. He pretended to other firms that the cheques he presented to them for tractors and machinery would be honoured if they were handed to a bank. However, the companies lost out when there were insufficient funds in Mackland's account to make the payments. Mackland was still able to obtain the ill-gained goods worth tens of thousands of pounds. His offending involved two businesses in Forfar, one in Stonehaven and a fourth in Lincolnshire. Evidence led in court by prosecutors revealed how he persuaded the Scottish dealers to supply him with vehicles to the value of £500,000 - knowing the cheques he used as payment would bounce. Payment was never made and the vehicles were not returned. And he pretended to the company in Lincolnshire that he would supply them with a JCB for £52,200 and then failed to supply the vehicle or return the money. In total, the overall value of his fraudulent activity was put at £630,000. He was found guilty of defrauding three agricultural companies by a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh. Moira Orr, who leads on Major Crime for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, said: 'Fraud is not a victimless crime. It strikes at and erodes the basis of trust upon which all businesses rightly depend. We take such criminality very seriously. 'Businesses and individuals suffered considerable financial harm as a consequence of Barry Mackland's crimes. 'But thanks to partnership working between Police Scotland and the Crown Office and the Procurator Fiscal Service, he has been brought to account for his crimes. 'As prosecutors, we are wholly committed to tackling financial crime of this kind.'

Deji Elerewe netted the opener for Bromley before former West Ham defender Ben Johnson equalised to force spotkicks. However, manager Kieran McKenna was without one of his key players in Hutchinson for the match. The ex-Chelsea ace has been the subject of Premier League interest this summer following Ipswich's relegation to the Championship. Brentford missed the attacker's deadline to activate his £35million release clause in July. Nottingham Forest, Everton and Inter Milan have also been credited with interest in the 21-year-old's signature. McKenna said: "He trained on Monday okay, and then felt he couldn't contribute today with the situation as it is. "That was his decision. "He made his desire to continue to play Premier League football if the opportunity is there. "He's a very, very young player so we have empathy with him. The Blues hold a 25 per cent sell-on clause on him as it was agreed as part of his move to Portman Road. Hutchinson impressed last term in Suffolk as he scored three times and assisted twice in his 31 appearances. However, his performances were not enough to save the club from the drop. Ipswich have already lost Liam Delap this summer as the striker made a £30m move to Stamford Bridge.

Ben Doak given Celtic transfer guarantee with Arne Slot stance on Liverpool deal clear
The Scotland international is facing a major decision on his future this summer Liverpool wonderkid Ben Doak has been told he would be a regular starter for Celtic if he made a blockbuster return to the club this summer. The Scotland international is at a career crossroads after returning from a thigh injury that ruled him out for an extended period and cut his loan spell at Middlesborough short last season. The 19-year-old is highly-rated by the Premier League champions - who have previously knocked back £20million bids for the winger. Another loan exit could be on the cards this summer to allow him to ramp up his game time away from Anfield - while Premier League sides Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Everton also said to be pushing for a permanent deal. The Mirror report that boss Arne Slot would prefer Doak to leave on loan, and former Reds' star Didi Hamann reckons that a temporary switch to the Hoops - who he left in 2022 - could give the forward something vital for his career. Speaking to CasinoHawks, who have the latest casino sites, Hamann said: "Ben Doak's future depends on what Liverpool are planning for him because at his age, he needs to be playing. "If he goes to Celtic, I think he's pretty sure to probably start because Nicolas Kuhn went to Como. I think Celtic is a fantastic club." The Times report that Leeds - who are owned by 49ers Enterprises alongside Celtic's rivals Rangers - are among the club's eyeing a loan switch and have already expressed an interest in Doak. And Hamann reckons that a switch to Elland Road could be more beneficial than the prospect of Champions League football in Glasgow's east end. He went on: "In terms of progression as a player, the Premier League is probably the better place because he will get tested every week, more than he does in the Scottish league. "If Leeds really see him as one of the first 13 or 14 players, if he doesn't start, then he's one at least of the first ones to come on, then as a player, I would probably lean towards Leeds."
