Former Scots footie star accused of deliberately getting booked in gambling scam
Ex-Livingston star Keaghan Jacobs, 35, faces court over claims he intentionally earned a yellow card in a 2019 match vs Celtic to aid a betting scam.
A former SPFL star is due to appear in court accused of deliberately getting himself booked in an attempt to cheat at gambling.
Keaghan Jacobs, 35, is alleged to have picked up a yellow card on purpose while playing for Livingston in a Scottish Premiership league match against Celtic.
He is said to have 'acted in a manner whereby he would receive a yellow card for the purpose of enabling or assisting others to cheat at gambling ' during the clash at his team's Tony Macaroni stadium on October 6, 2019.
A second man, Conan McDiarmid, 40, is alleged to have placed bets – and arranged for others to take punts – on Jacobs getting a caution.

The case against Jacobs, from Edinburgh, and McDiarmid, from Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, called at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.
Proceedings against Jacobs were continued without plea to later this month.
McDiarmid's lawyer lodged a not guilty plea. A trial date was set for later this year.
The match involved in the alleged betting scam saw Livingston secure a 2-0 win, handing the Hoops their first defeat of the season. Jacobs was shown the yellow card by referee Willie Collum for a foul on winger Jonny Hayes as the game was coming to a close in the 95th minute.
Jacobs is a South African national who had two spells with Livingston between 2007 and 2015 and again between 2017 and 2022.
The star has played a total of 252 times for the West Lothian club and scored 23 goals.
He has also turned out for South African club Bidvest Wits, Falkirk, Arbroath and is currently playing with Lowland League club Gala Fairydean Rovers.
He is believed to have made football history when he played alongside his three triplet brothers – Kyle, Devon and Sheldon – in a Scottish Third
Division match between Livingston and Albion Rovers in April 2010.
The 2-0 victory in front of just over 600 fans is said to be the only time four brothers have turned out for the same professional senior team in the same match.
McDiarmid played as a defender with a number of amateur clubs, including Edinburgh United and Whitehill Welfare, before he retired in 2020 and moved into management.

Exonerated US death row inmate turned campaigner dies in Irish house fire
Sadness has been expressed after former US death row inmate turned campaigner Sunny Jacobs died following a fire in Ireland. The 77-year-old yoga teacher who was originally from New York was found dead following the blaze at the Sunny Healing Centre in rural Co Galway. She spent 17 years in prison in the US, a number of them on death row, following a conviction for murder. Ms Jacobs was released in 1992 after her sentence and imprisonment were quashed. Irish police said emergency services were alerted to the incident at Gleann Mhic Mhuireann in Casla at around 6.20am on Tuesday. Gardai said the bodies of a woman aged in her 70s and a man in his 30s were recovered from inside the home after the blaze was brought under control by firefighters. They have also appealed for any witnesses to come forward. 'Both bodies were taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for post-mortem examinations, while the scene was preserved for a technical probe,' they said. 'The results of the post-mortem examinations will inform the direction of garda inquiries.' A statement on Ms Jacobs' campaign website confirmed she had died in the incident, along with her caretaker. 'We don't have many details at this time, but investigation is ongoing and our contacts in Galway are providing us with information as it comes in,' they said. 'Sunny was a fierce advocate for justice and a guiding light for many. 'As someone who survived wrongful conviction – including five years in solitary confinement under a sentence of death, and 17 years of imprisonment total – she knew the difficulties of incarceration and the struggle to regain one's footing after being exonerated and released.' They said that Ms Jacobs, along with her late husband Peter Pringle, established The Sunny Centre to help other exonerees through the difficult process of building new lives after being released from prison. 'Together, they brought many exonerees to the centre in Ireland to help them process their trauma and move forward to the next steps of their healing,' they said. 'During and after the pandemic, they continued to support and counsel exonerees remotely by video and phone. 'After Peter's passing in 2022, Sunny continued the work of The Sunny Centre. She hosted exonerees and started a training programme for those who wanted to carry forward her vision to establish similar centres for exonerees within their communities.'

Karen Carney says Hannah Hampton will be 'disappointed' not to have stopped the first of Claudia Pina's two goals after Spain came from behind to beat England to a place in the Nations League semi-finals. Alessia Russo fired past Cata Coll with a composed strike against the run of play to put the Lionesses in front after 22 minutes at Espanyol's RCDE Stadium. But an inspired Pina turned the game just moments after coming on in place of Salma Paralluelo, equalising for the hosts from a tight angle on the hour-mark. With 20 minutes remaining of the Nations League group-stage clash, Pina cut inside Missy Bo Kearns and struck a sumptuous effort beyond Hampton to make it 2-1 and complete the comeback. The world champions preserved their narrow advantage to advance through to the Nations League semi-finals, with Sarina Wiegman's side left to lick their wounds just a month out from the Women's Euros. Watching back Pina's leveller in the ITV studio, Carney criticised both Kearns and Jess Carter, before pointing the finger at England goalkeeper Hampton. 'She [Pina] has been on fire all season for Barcelona and I think she's more influential for them when she comes off the bench,' ex-England midfielder Carney said. She's come on with immediate impact, she's done that for Spain time and time again,' Asante said. 'She's finds a pocket of space, waiting for the opportunity to get the ball, and she drops inside and just unleashes that shot, grazes it inside the post. 'It's a brilliant finish but with England, you can see the gaps are getting too big, there's no awareness of who is going to pressure. 'In that instance, Missy Bo Kearns just allows her to come back inside. Really, you want to show players like that outside and away from the goal. She had the whole goal to aim for. 'That just became a problem with some of the changes. They had a bit more fatigue and the gaps opened up.' England head coach Wiegman admitted there was room for improvement in the performance, viewing the match as a 'learning moment' in the build-up to the Euros. 'Concerned? That is a learning moment. I would not say concerned,' she explained. 'They did something different so you want to exploit the space that they leave in behind, but first you have to keep the ball. That is not easy. Something to take with us moving forward.' Wiegman defended Hampton's performance having put her faith in the Chelsea goalkeeper as her number one – a decision which prompted the shock retirement last Mary Earps month. 'She was put under a lot of pressure, as was the whole defence,' Wiegman added. 'There were many moments where there were a lot of players around her, a lot of crosses and a lot of runs in front of her. 'It was a good game for her experience.'
