Black Sabbath's Massive Invasion On The Albums Charts
Ozzy Osbourne passed away unexpectedly on July 22, just weeks after taking to the stage for the final time, both as a soloist and as a member of Black Sabbath. The rocker invades the United Kingdom's music charts this week under both monikers, and perhaps surprisingly, it's Black Sabbath that appears on the greatest number of rankings, with the most albums and songs.
Seven different albums by Black Sabbath return to the charts in the U.K. Among them, The Ultimate Collection, one of the band's most popular compilations, manages the greatest number of comebacks. It breaks back onto five of the half dozen lists on which it appears. On two of those tallies — the Official Albums Streaming and Official Albums Downloads charts — it reaches a new peak.
Coincidentally, three Black Sabbath projects return to three rankings apiece. Paranoid , the band's self-titled effort, and Master of Reality all reappear on a trio of charts this week. The collections land on different tallies from one another, although there is quite a bit of crossover.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath , as well as Volume 4 and Greatest Hits , reenter the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. The sets come in at Nos. 12, 28, and 35, respectively, on the list of the bestselling projects in those styles across the U.K.
Despite the fact that Black Sabbath has ranked as one of the most influential and beloved rock bands in U.K. history for decades, there are, amazingly, several debuts on the albums charts this frame. Five releases under the Black Sabbath name launch on at least one chart apiece.
Included in that roundup are Paranoid , Greatest Hits , Master of Reality , and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath , while Black Sabbath Volume 4 — which is counted as a separate entity from Volume 4 — opens on the Official Albums Downloads chart at No. 60. That's the only list where that specific title appears at the moment, as the simply-named Volume 4 only settles on the Official Rock & Metal Albums roster.

"To go through what must have been thousands upon thousands of letters and actually read them... I mean that costs money, takes time and effort. That told me a lot." The rock world has been mourning the Black Sabbath legend, who died on July 22 at the age of 76, just weeks after reuniting with his bandmates for a farewell concert in his hometown and receiving the Freedom of the City of Birmingham on June 28. Hill recently posted his story to Reddit after seeing negative comments about the Prince of Darkness following his death. "I wanted to share something positive about him," Hill said. "Also, I wanted to thank Ozzy... He changed my life... he added a sense of magic, wonder and excitement to my childhood."
