Man Utd look into treatment of fans in Lyon following travel issues and tear gas
Manchester United are looking into the treatment of their supporters in Lyon after police used tear gas following Thursday's Europa League quarter-final.
Thursday's first leg in France was attended by 2,800 away fans, who were required by local authorities to travel to a conference centre 13 miles away from the city centre to collect wristbands before boarding shuttle buses to the ground.
The significant expense and inconvenience of those demands were compounded by a malfunctioning public transport network and large queues at the pick-up point before being taken to the Groupama Stadium in the east of the city.
From OT to OL, thank you for your magnificent support despite a difficult night getting to the stadium.

More issues were to follow after the 2-2 draw against Lyon with tear gas deployed by police as fans were held back for an hour.
The PA news agency understands United are looking at the issues suffered by fans.
United fan Harry Robinson posted on X: 'Frustrating end to United's game in Lyon.
'Fans warned of an hour's holdback, but with full access to facilities. French police have locked off the toilets and concourse are now pepper spraying behind riot shields. Thanks for the hospitality.'
Manchester United Supporters Trust chief executive Duncan Drasdo said: '90 per cent of the time on Euro aways if there is aggro it's with the police rather than local fans.
'Most countries can do this right but there are almost always problems with the French police. All too often they create the aggro they are supposed to be preventing.'
UEFA has been contacted by PA for comment.

Rayan Cherki targets revenge on Manchester United as he begins City adventure
Rayan Cherki has said he is waiting for Manchester City to play Manchester United next season so he can 'kill' his new team's fierce rivals. Cherki was part of the Lyon team that endured a 7-6 aggregate defeat by United in the Europa League quarter-finals this past season, the 21-year-old making a rude gesture towards the home fans after scoring at Old Trafford to give Lyon a 5-4 lead. Advertisement The forward signed for City in a £30.5m deallast week and – in the lead-up to his first game for the club, against the Moroccan side Wydad on Wednesday – he was asked if his provocative act has already made him popular with the City fans. 'Yes,' the 21-year-old said. 'I didn't like it when Manchester United won the game because I'm a Lion [a Lyon player]. And now I wait for the game to kill them.' Related: Natural entertainer Rayan Cherki ready for test of maturity at Manchester City Cherki can operate as a wide-right player or a No 10 and will be one of the players Pep Guardiola asks to fill the void left by Kevin De Bruyne. But the Frenchman said: 'I'm not Kevin De Bruyne – he's the legend. I'm here to help the team and take it game after game and I hope I win all the time with the team. Pep told me he loves the No 10 position, but now I am ready to play all positions on the pitch – it's not complicated, I just want to play. 'I spoke with Pep about my position and we spoke about what I enjoy when I'm on the pitch. It's very good for me. Pep told me: 'When you have the ball, you are free,' which is good because it's my first [best] quality to help the team.' Advertisement Cherki explained why he signed for City. 'When I spoke with Pep he was very clear – about the [playing] system, the club, the city. And I want to win and I think Manchester City wants to win it all. For me that's good.' The Frenchman has said that one personal ambition is to claim the Ballon d'Or and he pointed to the fact a Manchester City teammate is the holder of the award as an inspiration. 'When you see how Rodri won the Ballon d'Or here, it's clear that with Manchester City it's possible to do so and I am here for this,' he said. After playing Wydad at Philadelphia's Lincoln Field on Wednesday, they face Al Ain and Juventus in their other Group G games. Cherki said: 'I'm ready for this because I want to win all of the competitions – and it's very good to play the first [revamped] Club World Cup in history.'

Newcastle United Already Facing Challenges In A Pivotal Summer Window
Newcastle United wanted Bryan Mbeumo and, by all accounts, believed the Cameroonian would be just as keen to move to St James' Park. This was before Manchester United made its interest known in Mbeumo with the Brentford attacker now seemingly on his way to Old Trafford. Newcastle quickly ditched its effort to sign the 25-year-old. The Magpies had also been linked with Matheus Cunha before being beaten to the punch on the signing of the Brazilian by Manchester United. A trend is developing of Newcastle losing out on its summer transfer targets to rivals that have more Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) headroom on the balance sheet. This is shaping up to be a pivotal summer for Newcastle. Last season was a positive one as Eddie Howe's team won the Carabao Cup and finished in the Premier League's top five to qualify for next season's Champions League. In theory, this should give Newcastle a platform to build on as the Saudi-owned club moves towards being an English soccer superpower. In Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, Newcastle has three players it can continue to build around. In other areas of the squad, though, Howe needs reinforcements to push his team higher up the Premier League table next season. This is where this summer's transfer business will be key. Joao Pedro is reportedly a target for the Magpies. The Brazilian enjoyed a positive 2024/25 campaign for Brighton and has been linked with Liverpool. With the Premier League champions currently moving for Florian Wirtz, though, Newcastle could get a deal done for Pedro first. The race is on for the Brighton attacker's signature. Pedro is talented, but doesn't fill an obvious hole in Newcastle's team. He is most comfortable in a central position where the Magpies are already strong. Right wing, where Mbeumo operates, is a greater need, and Pedro is capable of playing there, but Newcastle's summer strategy so far has been somewhat scattergun. There is still plenty time for Newcastle to implement its summer transfer plans, although the departure of Paul Mitchell as the club's sporting director won't have helped matters. The Magpies have gone through two sporting directors, including Dan Ashworth, in the space of two years and so it's under surprising that their transfer strategy is somewhat garbled. Newcastle is technically the richest club in the world such is its backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), but progress to date has been slow due to the Premier League's PSR and other factors. This summer, however, presents an opportunity to accelerate growth.
