(JED JACOBSOHN) The United States ended their four-match losing run with a resounding 5-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in their opening game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday in San Jose. Mauricio Pochettino and his team, which is missing several Europe-based regulars, had faced plenty of criticism after recent friendly defeats to Turkey and Switzerland. Against a Trinidad team, coached by former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke, it proved to be just the kind of stress-free comfortable win that the Argentine coach was seeking. The USA were on top from the outset with two early chances for striker Patrick Agyemang and it was the striker who helped create the 16th-minute opener. Agyemang won the ball off Trinidad defender Alvin Jones, found Jack McGlynn on the right who kept his cool and clipped the ball to the back post where Malik Tillman collected and then slotted home. Trinidad were showing why they have fallen down the FIFA rankings, slipping to 100th and fourth in the Caribbean, below Curacao, lacking any kind of solidity. The lively Luna created the third, a minute before the break, when he cut in from the left and his low shot deflected off Agyemang and beat the helpless Marin Phillip. It was easy going for Pochettino's side in the second half with Trinidad managing to threaten once when Tyrese Spicer put a low ball across the face of the goal but the sliding Dante Sealy was unable to connect. Sub Brenden Aaronson cut in from left and squeezed a low shot past Phillip's near post and then another man off the bench, Haji Wright completed the convincing victory when he broke down the left and drifted inside before placing the ball in the far corner. It could be AC Milan or Napoli in Italy - and Atletico Madrid have also been reported as suitors. And if Darwin leaves, it would leave a gap up top for a new forward. Top of the list is reportedly Victor Osimhen. Transfer talk has increased in recent weeks over the Nigerian - who is coming off a sensational season in the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray. Liverpool like Victor Osimhen The 26-year-old scored 37 times in 41 games overall for Cimbom - helping fire them to the league and Turkish Cup double. Napoli still own Osimhen's playing rights - with the player having spent the season on loan in Turkey. That sum is reported to be €75m - not a million miles off what the Reds are seeking for Nunez. But the sticking point has always been Osimhen's salary. However, there appears to be a thaw in that stance as Osimhen makes sacrifices to land a Premier League move. © IMAGO Osimhen salary demands SLASHED In an item discussing Manchester United's interest in the former Lille frontman, Foot Mercato claims that Osimhen's salary requests now stand at €12m per year. Advertisement 'Talks have resumed very recently under the conditions discussed a few weeks ago, namely a salary of €12 million for the player and compensation of €75 million including bonuses for Napoli, the club that owns the player,' writes Sebastien Denis. That equates to around £200k per week - HALF of what was previously out there. So if Liverpool can conduct an outbound deal for Nunez - who earns around £140k per week - it means a deal for Osimhen won't break the bank. Indeed there is a tantalising prospect that Hughes could SWAP Osimhen for Nunez in a sensational deal with Napoli. Nonetheless this latest update suggests that Osimhen is no longer out of reach due to his pay packet.
