Connolly debuts as Australia press for series sweep in Sri Lanka
Feb 6 (Reuters) - Spin bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly made his test debut for Australia in the second test against Sri Lanka on Thursday as the tourists press for a 2-0 series sweep in Galle.
Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss and elected to bat in what is his team mate Dimuth Karunaratne's 100th test after which the opener will retire.
"We've got one change, Todd Murphy unfortunately misses out and Cooper Connolly makes his debut, so exciting day for him," Australia skipper Steve Smith, leading the side in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins, said at the toss.
"I think there's going to be enough there early on with some swing and some spin. Hopefully we've got all the options covered."
Connolly, who has played only four first class matches, received his baggy green cap from former Australia player Simon Katich.
Australia, who have already secured their place in the final of the World Test Championship against South Africa, won the opening test, also in Galle, by an innings and 242 runs.

Allwood appeared on Alone Australia earlier this year, with the show challenging Aussies to survive for as long as possible after being dropped off in separate wilderness areas where they are devoid of human contact. He lasted 16 days in the bush in the rugged West Coast Range of Tasmania as he competed against nine others. 'To be honest, I was rattled,' he said after returning to civilisation. 'It was too much being out there on my own away from my family with no contact.' After the show aired, his wife Ainsely posted a heartfelt message to him on Facebook. ''SO BLOODY PROUD OF YOU MATTY!!' she wrote. 'Anyone sitting at home on their couch watching, thinking they could do better, go on. APPLY!! 'Like to see you not eat for 10 days. 'Longest 1st tap out in the history of Alone Australia and 2nd longest tap out in history of the whole Alone Series!' Allwood's upbringing on a NSW cattle farm was great preparation for the show, and his Instagram account is full of videos and photos of him practising his bushcraft. Jarome Luai called up by NSW Blues to replace injured Mitch Moses for State of Origin Game 2
Jarome Luai will replace Mitch Moses as NSW's five-eighth for the second State of Origin match after a calf strain dashed Moses's hopes of playing. Moses pulled up sore while running the ball during a training session at NSW's Blue Mountains camp on Thursday, injuring the same calf that troubled him earlier this year. The Blues have sent Moses for scans on the injury that delivers a blow to their hopes of sealing a series victory by winning Origin II in Perth on Wednesday. 'It's terrible, isn't it? Mitch played really well in game one,' said Blues coach Laurie Daley. 'We're unsure of how bad it is but he won't be any good for Wednesday with the short turnaround.' Daley called Luai on Thursday to ask whether he would be available after Moses beat him for selection in NSW's game-one win. Luai, who had just finished on the training paddock at Wests Tigers, answered Daley's distress call to reunite with former NSW halfback Nathan Cleary in the halves. It's the second time in as many years that injury has forced the Blues to turn to a player they initially snubbed, with James Tedesco coming in for Dylan Edwards to play fullback in last year's series opener. 'Luai handled it [the initial rejection] with such class and he said if I needed him, he'd be ready to go,' Daley said. 'So when I rang him, he said, 'Sweet, I'm ready to go'. It is understood Luai's handling of his demotion before game one impressed coach Laurie Daley and NSW staff.
