Karnataka Govt Cancels Leave For Health Staff During ASHA Workers' 3-Day Strike
The Karnataka Health Dept banned leave for staff from August 12-14 due to an ASHA workers' strike demanding a promised Rs 10,000 monthly honorarium.
The Karnataka Health Department has issued a directive prohibiting all officers and staff from taking leave for three days staring Tuesday. The directive mentioned that leave can be taken in cases of medical emergencies. The notice was issued in response to a planned three-day strike by ASHA workers beginning tomorrow.
The strike, announced by ASHA workers across the state, is scheduled to be held from August 12 to 14. The workers are demanding the fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000 that was promised by the state government in January but is yet to be implemented.
In a circular, the department stated that daily attendance reports of ASHA workers would be collected from primary health centres, compiled at the district level, and submitted to the commissionerate by 3pm each day of the protest.
The notice stated, 'Information about ASHA workers absent from duty within district limits will be collected daily from primary health centres, compiled at the district level, and submitted to the commissionerate by 3 pm during the protest."
The department has also called on community health officers, primary health protection officers, health inspectors, and Anganwadi workers to ensure uninterrupted public health services during the agitation.
ASHA workers went on an indefinite strike in January over their several demands, including that of monthly honorarium. Their strike prompted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to announce the monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000 four days later. The honorarium was supposed to be effective from April but it is yet to implemented.

A 63-year-old Indian-origin pain medicine doctor based in Houston, Texas, has agreed to pay more than $2 million (approximately Rs 17.4 crore) to settle allegations of healthcare fraud, according to the US Ajay Aggarwal agreed to pay $2,053,515 to resolve claims that he submitted false billing to Medicare and to the Department of Labor's Workers' Compensation Programs between November 2021 and March 2023, for surgical procedures that were never actually is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine doctor who also practices in Texas' Bellaire city, Lake Jackson city and Van Vleck (in Matagorda County). Mizorams proximity to Golden Triangle causing inflow of drugs: CM
Aizawl, Aug 13 (PTI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday said that the state's close proximity to the 'Golden Triangle', a region in southeast Asia infamous for drug manufacturing, is causing an inflow of drugs. The chief minister was addressing a state-level programme on 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' (Drugs Free India Campaign) here. More than 600 students from various schools and colleges took part in the event. He said drugs must be eradicated completely as they harm society. 'Mizoram's close geographical proximity to the 'Golden Triangle' is leading to frequent inflow of drugs into the state," he said. 'Golden Triangle' refers to a mountainous region in northeastern Myanmar, northwestern Thailand and northern Laos, infamous for drug manufacturing. Lalduhoma urged all to remain vigilant and united in the fight against drugs to ensure that the Mizo society remains protected from such harmful influences. He encouraged young people to abstain from using drugs and warned that even occasional use of them is the first step towards addiction. The 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' is currently being implemented in 372 districts across the country, including all the 11 districts of Mizoram. The campaign focuses primarily on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and preventing first-time users from starting.
