Ayodhya to ban meat sale along key religious routes, says Mayor Tripathi
Officials in Ayodhya have begun taking action to ban meat sales along key religious routes like Ram Path and Dhama Kosi Marg, as they issued notices to shopkeepers. This action comes after complaints were raised at UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath's Janta Darbar. According to Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi, a liquor ban is also being planned.
Mayor Tripathi spoke to ANI on Saturday, saying that discussions related to the ban had been ongoing for a long time. "It was under discussion for a very long time that the sale of meat be banned in Ayodhya. It was decided that the sale of meat must be prohibited on Ram Path," said Tripathi. He also talked about the ban on the sale of liquor being planned in some areas, stating that 'We are sure that we will soon ban liquor sale too.'
Earlier, Food and Fertiliser Commissioner Manik Chand informed that the issue came to light when a complaint was lodged during the CM Yogi's Janta Darbar. Following the complaint, a team inspected the shops and Commissioner Chand informed them that 22 meat shops were running across these religious routes. "A complaint was received during CM Yogi Adityanath's Janta Darbar that meat shops are running on Ram Path, Dharma 14 Kosi Parikrama Marg and Panchkosi Marg. We formed a team and inspected all the shops.", Commissioner Chand told ANI.
The Commissioner also said that all meat shops are being issued notices and a time limit of seven days has been given to them for relocating their shops. He said that action will be taken against those who fail to follow the notice. 'There are 22 meat shops on Ram Path, Bhakti Path and Dharma Path and 14 Kosi Marg... If there are any other shops, they will also face a similar procedure," Chand said.
Earlier in March, CM Yogi Adityanath issued strict orders to close illegal slaughterhouses and enforced a ban on the sale of meat within a 500-meter radius of religious sites.

In his letter, Jha said the people of India feel they are being 'kept in the dark,' and deserve clarity on the government's decisions and their broader impact. Jha said citizens are concerned not only about national security but also about what he described as 'organised chaos' that is adding to societal divisions. He listed several key issues that he believes should be addressed in the proposed session, including 'foreign interference, media behaviour, the political use of military actions,' and the need for a 'clearer national security strategy.' 'I am writing to urge you to convene a special session of the Parliament to discuss the recent cross-border operations against Pakistan, its implications, and the path ahead.' He said citizens demand 'transparency, responsiveness, and accountability.' He expressed concern over statements by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly claimed credit for mediating peace talks between India and Pakistan. 'The United States President Donald Trump has claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan no less than twelve times since the operations began. In his social media posts as well as press briefings and public appearances he has described long nights of talks and pressing for full ceasefire agreements. Several newspapers in the US reported that President Trump's sudden announcement followed after days of steady escalation between India and Pakistan and mixed signal from Washington. Who did the US administration reach out to in your government or vice versa? What stand or perspective did India articulate in these discussions? When foreign leaders claim credit for resolving India's security challenges, our country's global standing takes a beating. It undermines our sovereignty,' the letter reads. The MP also criticised the 'lack of updates given to Indian lawmakers about the operation,' contrasting it with briefings given to foreign governments and think tanks. He said this creates an 'information gap' where Indian citizens are less informed than international observers. Jha highlighted how media channels and social media platforms spread 'unverified casualty figures' during the conflict, adding to confusion and damaging India's image abroad. 'Television anchors declared themselves strategic experts and hosted shouting matches disguised as analysis, a textbook case of the narrowing gap between jingoism and journalism. Several media analysts have noted that quickly, there was an explosion of disinformation online during the conflict. This media chaos undermined India's global standing. Worse, no disciplinary action followed these bigoted and outrageous comments, indicating they reflected official party strategy rather than individual indiscretion. When governing party leaders mobilise military operations into electoral contexts without consequence, it signals deliberate policy rather than communication failure.' He concluded the letter by saying that the government's refusal to hold a special session so far could indicate either a lack of confidence in its version of events or an attempt to avoid scrutiny, both of which, he said, are harmful to the country. 'The government owes the nation a detailed briefing followed by a discussion on operational objectives, strategic outcomes, and future doctrine. Parliament exists precisely for such national importance matters. The government's reluctance so far to convene a special session suggests either lack of self assurance in its own narrative or deliberate obfuscation. Neither serves national interests,' the letter reads. On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. After India's strike on terror infrastructure, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and the International Border, as well as attempted drone attacks targeting civilian areas along the border regions. Karnataka Dy CM Shivakumar urges Centre's support as Maharashtra objects to Alamatti dam height increase
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 2 (ANI): After the Maharashtra government raised objections to increasing the height of the Alamatti dam, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday appealed to Union Ministers and MPs from Karnataka to safeguard the state's interests. While addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, DK Shivakumar said, 'As per the Krishna Tribunal's order, Karnataka can increase the height of the Alamatti dam to 524 meters. Maharashtra, who was quiet when the order was pronounced, suddenly wrote a letter to our CM objecting to it. I appeal to all the Union Ministers and MPs with folded hands to protect the state's interest in this.' Shivakumar said that Fadnavis wrote a letter to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on May 9 stating that the Sangli and Kolhapur districts would face flooding if the dam's height is raised. He added, 'Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has written a letter to our CM Siddaramaiah on May 9, raising objections to increasing the height of the Alamatti dam. Stating that Sangli and Kolhapur districts would face flooding if the dam's height is raised, the letter has asked for the re-evaluation of the plan. This letter is a shock to us. Maharashtra had never objected to this project till now. They had not raised any issues when the Tribunal passed its judgement in 2010. Maharashtra had even submitted an affidavit to the Tribunal seeking to increase the height, but it is opposing it all of a sudden.' He said that CM Siddaramaiah will reply to the Maharashtra CM's letter. 'This project is our right, as accorded by the Krishna Tribunal. Our CM will give a reply to the letter from the Maharashtra CM. Union Minister V Somanna is part of Union Jal Shakthi ministry. Alamatti project is needed for the state, we don't want friction with our neighbouring state. The cost escalation is very due to delay in this project. We would need Rs 1 lakh crore for land acquisition for this project,' he said. Shivakumar said that Karnataka has been waiting for a Gazette notification to increase the height of Alamatti since 2013 'Flooding in Maharashtra is their internal matter, and they need to fix it. In a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. In a post on X, Patel wrote, 'A pleasure to meet with a cross-party delegation of senior Indian MPs @HCI_London.' 'Significant areas of discussion covered our shared determination to combatting terrorism, to UK-India defence and security links, our economic ties and the living bridge between our two countries,' she aded. Earlier, the High Commission of India in London shared the picture of the meeting and wrote, The All-Party Parliamentary Delegation met with Shadow Foreign Secretary @pritipatel and her team to share India's firm resolve in combating cross-border terrorism. They also highlighted how #OperationSindoor exemplifies the new normal set by India in this ongoing effort.' The Indian delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, includes BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari, Samik Bhattacharya, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, former Union Minister MJ Akbar, and former Ambassador Pankaj Saran.
