Canada's Shapovalov advances Mifel Tennis Open final with win over Australia's Walton
Shapovalov reached the Mifel Tennis Open final with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Australia's Adam Walton at the ATP 250 event Friday.
The third-seeded Shapovalov hit seven aces and saved four break points while converting all four of his break-point opportunities.
He needed one hour six minutes to win the match over Walton, the tournament's eighth seed.
The 26-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont., also won the Dallas Open in February. The former world No. 10 has won three career ATP titles.

Shapovalov will face the winner of a semifinal matchup between top seed Andrey Rublev of Russia and seventh seed Aleksandar Kovacevic of the United States in the final.

Canada's Rogers wins Diamond League gold in women's hammer; Katzberg gets silver
SILESIA, POLAND – Canada has earned two medals at the Diamond League meet in Silesia, Poland. Camryn Rogers of Richmond, B.C., won gold in the women's hammer throw on Saturday and Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, B.C., earned silver in the men's event. Rogers threw a distance of 75.39 metres to climb to the top of the podium. Finland's Krista Tervo (72.74) and Silja Kosonen (72.40) took silver and bronze, respectively. Katzberg's best throw was 79.30 metres, to finish second in the hammer throw. Calgary's Abigail Strate earns bronze at ski jumping Summer Grand Prix in Poland
WISŁA – Calgary's Abigail Strate won her third consecutive medal on the Summer Grand Prix on Saturday, earning bronze in the women's large hill test in Wisla, Poland. Strate, a graphic designer when not taking flight off hills around the world, racked up 231.4 points in her two attempts. Slovenia's Nika Prevc won gold at 247.9, while Japan's Nozomi Maruyama earned silver with 240.5 points. Calgary's Nicole Maurer was the only other Canadian in the deep field, finishing 19th at 156.3. Strate opened the Olympic campaign last weekend with a bronze medal in France. It was her first career summer ski jumping podium. She delivered a golden encore, celebrating her first international victory a day later. She will launch off the HS134 hill in Poland with the best in the world once again on Sunday. This is the second time in her career that Strate has had three consecutive podiums. She closed out 2023 with a bronze and silver medal before ringing in 2024 with another bronze.
