With the 2025 NFL Draft and the first major wave of free agency behind them, NFL teams are developing a clearer picture of what their rosters lack.

With still much of the offseason ahead, teams will wade back into the waters of free agency. There are still several numerous names floating about, and one name stands out for the Houston Texans: Brandon Scherff.
In a recent article from Pro Football & Sports Network, analyst Brandon Austin listed one free agent each NFL team should sign ahead of the 2025 season. For the Texans, Austin predicts they will pursue veteran guard Scherff to solidify the offensive line.
"That position group was the team's biggest weakness in 2024, and it became even worse at the start of free agency," Austin wrote. "The 31st-ranked offensive line in PFSN's rankings traded away their best piece in left tackle Laremy Tunsil."
Houston also traded away guard Kenyon Green, but they signed veteran Laken Tomlinson and made a trade with the Vikings for Ed Ingram.

Though the Texans somewhat addressed their offensive line needs in the Draft, Austin isn't convinced it's enough.
"Second-round pick Aireontae Ersery is a mountain of a man, and he has starting upside in the NFL, but he may not be ready to plug into an already dysfunctional lineup right away," Austin wrote.
"That's why adding a proven veteran like Brandon Scherff to the mix makes a lot of sense."

Scherff, 33, is a former No. 5 overall pick by Washington out of Iowa in the 2015 NFL Draft. He's played for a decade and has been named to the Pro Bowl in half of those seasons.
Though he's likely nearing the end of his career, Austin noted Scherff's recent health as a reason for optimism.

"Scherff managed to stay healthy during his time with the Jaguars, which was a welcome change after several injury-plagued years in Washington," Austin wrote.
"He's now played in all 17 games for three straight seasons, following a stretch where he missed at least three games in five consecutive years."
Scherff was a brick wall in pass protection during the 2024 season after not giving up a single sack across 592 pass-blocking snaps. Among all NFL guards, only Trey Smith (665 snaps) logged more without allowing a sack.
Though Scherff wouldn't be a long-term fix, he would be a powerful addition to an otherwise struggling offensive line contingent.

Would any NFL team hire Bill Belichick? One possibility stands out.
When the Patriots fired Bill Belichick, it seemed inevitable that he'd land another NFL head-coaching job. The vibe has since shifted from inevitability to impossibility. But there's still one team to watch, in our view. It came up during Wednesday's PFT Live, when Simms and I were identifying coaches that need to do more than make the playoffs in 2025. Last year, Belichick consigliere Michael Lombardi was spreading a false rumor that Bowles may retire after the season. (Bowles quickly shut that down.) Which sparked speculation that Belichick was eyeballing the Buccaneers. So why would Lombardi be trying to speak a vacancy into existence? Maybe because that's one of the jobs Belichick would want. Even with all of the craziness that has happened of late, the Bucs can't be ruled out as a potential destination for Belichick. Again, they hired Greg Schiano. Much of it depends on what the Bucs do (or don't do) in 2025, and what the Tar Heels do (or don't do) in 2025. Still, with Belichick's buyout down to $1 million as of last Sunday, let's not assume no one at the NFL level will want Belichick. The Bucs have the talent; if ownership decides that an excellent game-day coach could get them back to the top of the mountain, it's not as nutty as it may seem. We're not saying Bowles shouldn't keep the job. We're jus trying to stay ahead of the curve. And the curve could indeed bend in unexpected ways in Tampa. Because it has before. More than once.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' unicorn, Travis Hunter, seems to be on his way to seamlessly make the transition from collegiate amateur to NFL superstar. Hunter has yet to even take a snap, and yet his impact has already been felt both on the practice field and all over Duval County. Just this week, Hunter went viral yet again for an insane interception at the Jaguars' OTAs, but how is Hunter handling the transition to the NFL? When asked that very question, Hunter replied, 'It's going great, it's a dream come true, and just happy to be out here with the guys, just being goofy and being myself.' Jonathan Vilma, NFL analyst and ex-Jets star, arrested in Miami
Former Jets linebacker and current Fox NFL analyst Jonathan Vilma was arrested Wednesday in Miami for driving with a suspended license, according to reporter Andy Slater. Vilma joined the media ranks after a successful collegiate and professional career. 'I believe the State Attorney's Office did the just and right thing in this matter. I would like to thank my family and friends, the New Orleans Saints organization, and my fans for supporting and believing in me.'
