Man kills parents, teen sister, drags bodies outside to bury, NM officials say

Miami Herald4 days ago
A man has been indicted in the 2024 fatal shooting of his parents, teen sister and the family dog, New Mexico officials said.
In October 2024, Bernalillo County deputies responded to a home in Tijeras after a man called saying he'd heard gunshots coming from a home where a family of four lived, according to the criminal complaint.
He tried to text the family and honked his car's horn to get their attention but didn't get a response, documents said.
When deputies arrived, they found Adlai Mestre leaving the home with a gun in his hand and a magazine loaded with ammunition, documents said.
While being detained, Mestre told officers, 'I killed them and was going to bury them,' documents said.
When deputies entered the home they found 'blood transfer patterns consistent with drag marks and mopping/cleaning,' the complaint said.
They also found a hammer and meat tenderizer with blood on it near the home's front door, officials said.
In a ravine near the home, officers found the bodies of two adults and a teen, officials said.
The bodies were later identified as Mestre's parents, Bertha Huerta Conde and Raymundo Mestre, and his 17-year-old sister, Brielle Mestre, according to a July 10 Facebook post by the district attorney's office.
He's also accused of killing the family dog, officials said.
His sister was known for being a 'long-time' member of the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, a pediatric rehabilitative hospital, and participated in events like wheelchair basketball, according to KRQE.
'She was this amazing young woman. So, I just wish everyone could have experienced what I got to experience,' Kerry Trautwein, a Carrie Tingley volunteer, told KRQE in 2024.
A scholarship was also created in her name, according to the foundation's website.
'The scholarship funds that we established will be able to help a child and their family, or maybe several, to be able to continue to participate in those adaptive programs that our foundation offers,' Executive Director Liliana Prado-Bujanda of Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation told the outlet.
During his interview with detectives, Adlai Mestre told officers he killed his dad in the living room and his mom as she walked down the stairs, 'but didn't know about his younger sister,' documents said.
Then he dragged them outside to 'bury them in the ravine,' officials said.
He tried to clean up the home but was interrupted by responding officers, the document said.
While officers were finishing his booking paperwork, Adlai Mestre punched the room's wall, then kicked open a hole, and escaped custody before being chased down the hall and taken into custody again, officials said.
He was indicted on charges of murder, tampering with evidence, extreme cruelty to animals, escaping from the custody of an officer and criminal damage to property, officials said.
Tijeras is about a 20-mile drive east from Albuquerque.

Man arrested after leaving ‘human skin' teddy bear outside a Victorville gas station for a prank

A teddy bear that appears to be made out of human skin and found outside a Victorville gas station over the weekend turned out to be a practical joke, according to authorities. On July 14, 2025, deputies identified the person who left the teddy bear at the AMPM as Hector Corona Villanueva. Corona Villanueva was arrested and will be booked for PC148.3(a) - Causing the Report of an Emergency while Knowing it to be False and PC141 - Intentionally and Wrongfully Planting Evidence to Falsely Present as Real. Incidents such as this take up valuable emergency resources and put the public at risk, possibly delaying response time to legitimate calls for service. We would like to thank those that reported information that was helpful during the investigation of this case. On Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 12:07 p.m., deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a suspicious circumstances call at the AMPM gas station on Bear Valley Road. Callers indicated a teddy bear made of what looked like human flesh was left in front of the business. Upon arriving, deputies located the teddy bear and began their investigation. An investigator with the San Bernardino County Coroner office responded and collected the teddy bear. It has been determined that the teddy bear is not made of any type of human remains or skin. The investigation into who left the teddy bear at the business is continuing. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Victorville Police Department at (760) 241-2911 or Sheriff's Dispatch at (760) 956-5001. 'A coroner investigator has taken possession of the object, and the investigation is continuing,' Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Mara Rodriguez said. Authorities are still investigating who was behind the prank. Video from KTLA shows the bear was left outside the entrance of AM/PM and the store's parking lot was cordoned off by sheriff's deputies. South Carolina artist Robert Kelly of Dark Seed Creations confirmed in a Facebook post that she was the creator of the bear and shipped one of them to an Etsy customer in Victorville last week. The bears in the Facebook video Kelly posted were stitched together like a Frankenstein monster with 'human skin' and tinged with what appeared to be blood. 'No, I did not have any knowledge of the buyers intentions nor was I involved in a prank on the other side of the nation from me,' he wrote. The bear is listed for sale at $165 on the seller's Etsy shop but is now sold out.

Teddy Bridgewater says he has been suspended by Miami HS he coached to state title

Former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended as the head football coach at his alma mater, Miami Northwestern High School, Bridgewater confirmed on social media on July 13. The suspension comes less than a week after Bridgewater detailed in a Facebook post, in which he was asking for donations for the program, that he spent $2,200 per week to feed his players pregame meals, $14,000 to conduct a training camp, $9,500 for uniforms, $1,300 a week for recovery services for players, $300 a week to keep the team's field painted and $700 for Uber rides. Bridgewater alleged that administrators at Northwestern 'want me gone apparently.' 'The suspension came from MNW and it's impossible to suspend someone who doesn't work for you,' Bridgewater wrote. 'So if im suspended from MNW im free to go to another school of my choice but IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE. And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.' Teddy Bridgewater paid out of pocket for training camp ($14K), pride sets ($9,500), pregame meals ($2,200/wk), recovery ($1,300/wk), Ubers ($700/wk), field paint ($300/wk).He did this as a VOLUNTEER, not employee. We shouldn't be punishing people for improving their community. REQUIRED READING: NFLPA leaders deny asking for Lloyd Howell's resignation, express support The Florida High School Athletic Association confirmed to USA TODAY that it sent the allegation of impermissible benefits to Miami Northwestern and is "communicating with the school to gather information.' FHSAA rules state that 'no school employee, athletic department staff member, or representative of a school's athletic interests…may form, direct, offer, provide, or otherwise engage in any activity outlined' in the organization's bylaw governing amateurism and name, image and likeness. In his first season as head coach, the 32-year-old Bridgewater led Miami Northwestern to a Class 3A state championship in Florida, with the Bulls winning each of their playoff games by at least 40 points. A former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, Bridgewater played in the NFL for 10 seasons, from 2014-23, before retiring after the 2023 season. He briefly came out of retirement to join his former team, the Detroit Lions, late last December for their final two regular-season games and their divisional round playoff loss to the Washington Commanders. He resumed his role as Miami Northwestern's coach shortly after that run. Bridgewater finished his NFL career with 15,120 passing yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions while completing 66.4% of his passes. He was a Pro Bowler in 2015 after leading the Vikings to the playoffs, but suffered a catastrophic knee injury during a preseason practice in 2016 that nearly required his leg to be amputated and altered the trajectory of his career.
