Dhurandhar BTS: How An Army Of 500 People Built Pakistan's Streets In Thailand
Dhurandhar, the upcoming spy-action drama directed by Aditya Dhar, has been making waves ever since its official teaser dropped. Featuring a powerhouse ensemble cast, Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Akshaye Khanna, the film is reportedly set in 1970s-80s Pakistan and promises a gripping mix of bloodshed, intense action and high-voltage drama. But while the teaser has fans hooked, what went on behind the scenes to bring those massive, immersive sets to life is just as fascinating.
Recently, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Dhurandhar's production designer, Saini S Johray, opened up about recreating Pakistani lanes in Thailand for the film.
It took him nearly three months to complete the 'massive" sets for Dhurandhar. He and his crew worked on the design from March to May, recce in June, and the shooting began in July. He also claimed that his team of 12 designers worked 12 hours a day, as the film was so massive. 'I think in my career, it's one of those films that has the maximum number of locations," said Johray.
Furthermore, he explained how they recreated Pakistani streets, stating that they used newspaper cuttings, old movies and headlines to grasp the geography of the specific area in Pakistan. Then they built a 6-acre set in Thailand and a huge one on Madh Island.
Why did they choose Thailand to create the sets?
The designer shared that they couldn't shoot in Mumbai with such a huge cast, and also were unable to shoot in a studio since they required a large 6-acre location. Furthermore, the shooting dates were in July, which meant that Mumbai would be experiencing heavy monsoons, so they couldn't build a set there. Therefore, they came to Thailand, where the stunning landscape was ideal for them to create a larger-than-life set.
Around 500 Thai people worked day and night for 20 days to create the massive Bhindi Bazaar set in Thailand. Talking about the process, the designer added, 'Thai people have no idea how Bhindi Bazaar looks, therefore I had to make sure everything looked really authentic and not at all like Thailand. If you look at the teaser, you won't notice it!"
Dhurandhar is set to hit the big screens on December 5, 2025.

Journalists Enact Squid Game Scene To Highlight Bengaluru's Hazardous Footpaths
Last Updated: The individuals were seen running on a damaged footpath while wearing costumes like those worn by the contestants participating in Squid Game. Bengaluru's potholes and traffic woes have frequently made headlines. For the residents, the situation seems to remain the same despite repeated complaints. In a bid to highlight the hazardous potholes in the city, some Bengaluru residents and journalists staged a unique protest, inspired by Netflix's popular South Korean series, Squid Game. In a video circulating on X, the individuals were seen running on a damaged footpath while wearing costumes like those worn by the contestants participating in Squid Game. The show revolved around a group of cash-strapped people competing in a series of challenges inspired by children's games, which soon got dangerous. The clip was shot near St John's Hospital with the aim to highlight the hazardous conditions pedestrians face in one of the city's busiest areas. In the video, one of the residents slips and almost falls into a pothole. The caption read, 'It's Skid game for Namma Bengaluru Journalists." One account wrote, 'Bangalore is the worst city to live in. We need a lot of work to be done to make it world class." A comment read, 'Bravo Bengaluru's footpaths are a mess and the roads are full of potholes — the situation is terrible. Respect to all the volunteers who took this different approach to highlight the issues to BBMP. Hopefully, BBMP takes action and fixes them now." In a similar incident earlier, residents in the Jayanagar area of Bengaluru expressed their disappointment in a unique way. To protest against the hazardous road conditions, they performed puja to a particularly troublesome pothole on Varamahalakshmi Vratham day. In the video, a woman and a man are seen performing a ritual at the edge of a large, water-filled pothole. It shows that they are offering flower petals, turmeric powder and kumkum to the pothole. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 07:00 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mortality & Manifestations
I don't know if I'm just getting older, but the weeks are flowing into months, and the months are swiftly turning into a year at an alarming speed. It makes me afraid of my mortality! Not that I'm afraid of 'passing on', but hopefully when that time comes, it's uneventful and peaceful. But I have loads of things I want to do. My famous, unpublished books that are lying half-finished on my desktop are one, or the bartending class I wanted to attend, my singing, my salsa classes, and my 'climb-every-mountain' mantra have not been followed to a T! I have successfully manifested most of my dreams. But I am a human being, and we always want more! Now my aching bones have turned me into a more realistic being, and I suppose now I'll have to climb every mountain metaphorically! Now, for sure, I have stopped pleasing and playing for an audience (I couldn't help my actor genes now, could I?), and I have got real about a lot of things. As a social being, I am friendly, but I reiterate that 'everyone' isn't my friend. Recently, I tried to count my real friends, and believe me, I couldn't get past the fingers on my first hand. I was elated! Just as I was doing a happy dance, my phone rang, and it was my friend Prasad Bidapa, whom I have known most of my life. We watched each other grow professionally and were always happy and proud of each other. I have wept over his shoulder many times, and we have giggled over a shared bit of gossip. We have also been there for each other, and if he needs me to attend an event at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, he knows I will be there. He called just to check in on me as we hadn't crossed paths for some time. This gesture warmed the cockles of my heart! Prasad is a 'busy-bee', yet he needed to know if his friend was well. That's what friends are for. My week has been dotted with long impromptu 'food soirees' with family and friends like family in attendance. I think everyone is suffering with a sense of ennui, with the prospect of dressing up and going to another pointless event where one bumps into the same people, who give you the same polite smiles and have nothing new to say or do. Give me the opportunity to wear my 'jammies' with a home-cooked meal, great madeira (saved for those family occasions), raucous laughter and non-stop talking any day! I was thrilled to be invited back to the swanky JW Marriott to sample the cuisine of the famed restaurant Fireback from Goa. I love the authentic Thai restaurant, and I didn't need more persuasion to sample their cuisine in namma ooru. The name is inspired by the Thai national bird, the Siamese Fireback and also alludes to the fire-grilled cooking behind many of the restaurant's dishes. Their chef, Kamal Kant Joshi, was on hand lovingly taking us through his very imaginative new menu while the dishy mixologist Ravi Rai kept us enthralled with his Thai-inspired cocktails, which had our table of friends, Aloma Lobo, Neetu Singh and the suave GM Gaurav Sinha in 'high spirits'! Khop-khun-khrap for all the love. (The writer's views are personal)

Sandeep Reddy Vanga Confirms Prabhas, Triptii Dimri's Spirit Begins Filming This September
Last Updated: Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga confirms Prabhas, Triptii Dimri's Spirit starts filming in September with back-to-back schedules. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has officially confirmed that his much-anticipated film Spirit, starring Prabhas and Triptii Dimri, will begin shooting in September 2025. The announcement came during a recent chat with Vijay Deverakonda and filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri on the Sithara Entertainments YouTube channel. Sandeep revealed that Spirit will have back-to-back schedules and a non-stop shooting plan once it hits the floors. Spirit made headlines earlier this year when Deepika Padukone exited the project following disagreements over working hours and compensation. Reports suggested that Deepika was advocating for a strict eight-hour workday, a demand that could not be accommodated by the production team. Following her exit, Triptii Dimri was roped in to play the female lead opposite Prabhas. According to reports by Rangasthalam, Sandeep has already completed the musical compositions for Spirit in collaboration with composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar. Backed by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures, Spirit is one of the most awaited action dramas in Indian cinema and is expected to hit theatres in 2027. The film reportedly presents Prabhas in a never-seen-before avatar, adding to fans' excitement. Earlier, a source close to the project revealed, 'Sandeep Reddy Vanga wants to shoot for Spirit in a certain way and has requested Prabhas to acquire a lean physique. The idea is to ensure most stunts are performed by Prabhas himself. The Rebel Star is excited about the challenge and is working closely with Sandeep to mold himself into the character." After wrapping up Spirit, Sandeep will begin scripting Animal Park, the much-anticipated sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Animal. With high expectations riding on Spirit, fans are eagerly awaiting to see what cinematic magic Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Prabhas will bring to the screen.
