London has great public transport links to practically anywhere in the UK, making destination options endless.
But if you would prefer a quick journey to your getaway, then you are in luck.
The historical city of Canterbury is less than an hour from central London and offers a wealth of activities to enjoy over a long weekend.
Plus, it was previously named the best place to live in Kent by the popular website Muddy Stilettos.
A train journey to Canterbury takes just over 50 minutes from St Pancras, or for a slightly cheaper but slower option, you can catch a train from Victoria Station that takes an hour and a half.
Canterbury is well known for its deep historical roots, with medieval and Roman connections that still exist today.
With Roman walls surrounding the city centre and the Westgate towers welcoming you on arrival, you see the city's rich history from the moment you arrive.
Canterbury Cathedral is the region's most iconic landmark, with its grand style, being the oldest Christian structure in England and also being part of the World Heritage Site.
Along with the city's history, there is also a great shopping scene, from the Fenwick department store to a large Primark and endless amounts of independent and quirky shops.

Abercrombie & Kent sets opening date for Kenya lodge

Abercrombie & Kent has set a June 1 opening date for the Kitirua Plains Lodge in Kenya's Amboseli National Park. Located on a 128-acre private reserve adjacent to the park, the property will have 13 standalone suites with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. There will be 11 standard suites and two two-bedroom suites, each incorporating natural textures and woven details into their design. A&K called Kitirua "a deliberate departure from traditional tented safari camps" and one of its "most architecturally adventurous properties to date." Guest experiences will include game drives, cultural visits with Maasai communities, hot air balloon excursions and gatherings at the lodge's outdoor boma area. The lodge will also offer a spa, gym and swimming pool. Located in the heart of elephant country, the lodge's suites provide a "front-row seat to one of Africa's most iconic landscapes, where herds of elephants roam freely through a timeless wilderness," A&K said. Bookings for the Kitirua Plains Lodge are open. Guests are able to experience the lodge as part of A&K's Tailor Made journeys or Small Group Journeys. Rates start at $1,658 per person, per night for stays of seven nights or longer during the lodge's opening June through October 2026 season.

Here's The Hilarious Ways One Small UK Town "Welcomed" JD Vance To The Neighborhood

JD Vance is on vacation again. The VP took his family for a visit to the Cotswolds region of the UK, and received quite the welcome from residents in the town of Charlbury. Related: There was a truck with his face on it. There were costumes. It wouldn't be a party without balloons. Related: Cake! And signs. Related: So many signs. A video interviewing some residents about how they felt about the VP's visit there is going viral: @lbc/ "It's all for this man who slags off a country, our country, in one breath. And then wants to holiday here six months later. I think it's just hypocrisy." one person said. Related: Another person said, "I normally wouldn't protest against people on their holiday, but there's clearly a political angle to this." And then we have this guy, who said, "I've got no pushback against the fact that it's the taxpayers' money or anything like that. It's actually that I don't like the guy, and I want that to be known." What a blast! Also in Internet Finds: Also in Internet Finds: Also in Internet Finds:

The incident occurred the morning of Friday, August 15 in Manchester, England. A spokesperson for easyJet told PEOPLE, 'the wing tips of two aircraft came into contact whilst taxiing to the runway.' Videos and photos captured by passengers were posted to social media shortly after the event. TikTok user @charlbowers posted a video showing what appears to be a wing tip bent in half. In a video obtained by PEOPLE, an airport official wearing an orange vest makes his way to the grass to retrieve a piece of one of the planes that was seemingly sliced off. Tynisha Chaudhry, a 21-year-old on the plane to Gibraltar, told the BBC the experience was like a car crash.'We felt the whole plane shudder — it was a massive hit,' she told the outlet. 'The aircraft returned to stand to disembark customers and customers were provided with refreshment vouchers,' the airline's statement noted. 'A replacement aircraft and crew were arranged so that all customers could continue their journey this morning.' One of the planes was on its way to Gibraltar while the other was heading to Paris. The airline confirmed an investigation into that incident has been launched. No injuries have been reported. The collision caused a pause in airport operations.'We suspended operations briefly while [the planes] were assessed to see if they could taxi back to a stand, which they could so operations resumed after a few minutes,' a spokesperson for the airport told ABC News. Representatives for the airport did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Earlier this year, two planes had a near miss on the runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. 'An air traffic controller at LaGuardia Airport in New York canceled the takeoff clearance for Republic Airways Flight 4736 because United Airlines Flight 2657 was taxiing on the same runway,' the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement provided to PEOPLE following the incident. 'The stop was as hard as any car accident I've been in,' Republic passenger Renee Hoffer told the Associated Press. Read the original article on People
