Jagan slams Andhra Pradesh police over custodial torture of leader's son
YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that an "undeclared emergency" is unfolding in Andhra Pradesh, citing the alleged custodial toruture of a party leader's son by the state police in Palnadu district.
Reddy on Friday claimed that Harikrishna, son of party leader Yellaiah, was subjected to torture by the Dachepalli police in Tangada village.
"Is it acceptable if police who are meant to protect people unleash violence against them. It signals the breakdown of democratic order. This is an undeclared emergency unfolding in Andhra Pradesh, Reddy said in a post on X.
In a purported video shared by the former CM on X, Harikrishna's wife, children, parents, and relatives were seen staging a protest against his arrest, raising serious allegations against the police.
In the video, Harikrishna's wife was heard complaining that the police picked her husband up in the morning saying that they would send him back in a few hours but they failed to do so even around mid-day.
Staging a sit-in protest in front of the Dachapalli police station along with her family members and three minor children, she demanded justice and threatened that they would consume pesticides if her husband was not released or they were given an opportunity to meet him.
The video showed a middle-aged man in an orange shirt, purported to be Harikrishna, sitting battered on the floor and was later seen limping as a policeman helped him walk.
The video further shows locals raising anti-police slogans near the police station.
Meanwhile, a local police official told PTI that Harikrishna had allegedly stabbed a man in an inebriated condition over a previous dispute and was booked under Section 109 of the BNS Act.
Harikrishna was remanded as per legal procedure. Spreading false claims or political propaganda is unlawful and irresponsible, said the official.

Complainant in Sharmishta Panoli case arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments
The Kolkata Police on Monday arrested Wajahat Khan Qadri, the man whose complaint led to the arrest of 22-year-old law student Sharmishta Panoli, for posting allegedly 'malicious and inflammatory' remarks on social media, The Indian Express reported. Qadri, who was allegedly absconding since June 1, was found in a flat in the city's Amherst Street area, PTI quoted unidentified police officers as saying. He will be produced before a court on Tuesday, The Indian Express reported. A complaint had been registered against him on June 5. He was booked under the same sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as Panoli: promoting enmity between different groups, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class of citizens, intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace and statements that incite public mischief, The Indian Express had quoted an unidentified police officer as saying earlier. Panoli, a fourth-year business and law student at a Pune university, was arrested by the Kolkata Police in Gurugram on May 30 for her remarks about Prophet Muhammad on social media. She deleted the post later and issued an apology on X. A case was filed against Panoli based on Qadri's complaints on May 15. An arrest warrant had been issued against her on May 17, after which she was arrested from Gurugram, brought to Kolkata on a transit remand and remanded to judicial custody till June 13. The Calcutta High Court on June 5 granted interim bail to the 22-year-old law student. Following Panoli's arrest, at least five complaints were filed against Qadri in West Bengal, including two at the Garden Reach Police Station, for alleged hate speech and derogatory remarks on social media that hurt religious sentiments. Qadri had allegedly demanded action against Panoli on social media and later celebrated her arrest. The first complaint against Qadri was filed by a Hindutva outfit Shri Ram Swabhiman Parishad on June 2. The outfit alleged that his posts promoted enmity between religious groups and demanded his arrest for hurting 'Hindu sentiments'. Several complaints had also been filed against Qadri in different parts of the country, including Mumbai, Delhi and Assam, for alleged hate speech and making derogatory remarks against religious deities on social media. In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that an FIR was filed against the Qadri for allegedly making 'unacceptable comments against Devi Maa Kamakhya', The Indian Express reported. A three-member team of the Assam Police had earlier visited the area where Qadri lives in Kolkata's Garden Reach.

BJP minority cell to publicise Operation Sindoor; reach out to Muslims
'The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minority cell will hold outreach meetings outside religious sites such as dargahs, mosques, madrasas, churches and gurdwaras across the State to publicise the success of Operation Sindoor and welfare schemes for minorities,' a party leader said on Tuesday (June 10, 2025.) 'The party will launch the campaign from tomorrow with distribution of pocket-sized copies of the Constitution to raise awareness among minorities about their rights and duties,' Uttar Pradesh BJP minority cell president Kunwar Basit Ali told PTI. 'Also, conventions under the banner 'Alpsankhyakon ka Paigam, Modi ke Saath Musalman' will be held across all major cities in the State to mark 11 years of the Narendra Modi government,' he said. The first such event will take place on June 12 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Convention Centre in Lucknow. Mr. Ali said the cell will also conduct a programme, 'Desh ka Paigam, Pratibha ko Samman,' to felicitate madrasa students who have excelled academically. The party will also felicitate relatives of those who died in the line of duty. "It is a significant step towards building trust-based politics with minorities," he said. The party is slated to organise yoga events in 403 madrasas of Uttar Pradesh on International Yoga Day (June 21). Mr. Ali also drew a contrast between former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remark "Muslims have the first claim on resources" and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's view that "the poor have the first right on the country's resources." He said the Sachar Committee had exposed the dire socio-economic condition of Muslims, which remained unaddressed under previous governments. "Despite immense poverty in the Muslim community, Prime Minister Modi has ensured the benefits of his welfare schemes reach them. Muslims constitute about 20% of the population, but they account for nearly 40% of the beneficiaries of government welfare programmes," Mr. Ali said.

Explosives used without noticeahead of Yogi's Bahraich visit
Bahraich: Two days ahead of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's proposed visit to Bahraich, a company authorised by the Union Petroleum Ministry allegedly used large quantity of explosives for drilling without informing the local administration, officials said. Local BJP MLA Surveshvar Singh termed the incident a 'serious security lapse' and demanded cancellation of the chief minister's visit. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Alok Prasad told PTI that Alpha Geo India Limited was assigned the task of drilling and surveying for oil and gas deposits by the Petroleum Ministry. The firm as using ammonium nitrate explosives for the survey. Though the company was carrying out government-sanctioned work, it failed to follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) and did not inform the local administration, he said. This caused panic among villagers and resentment among the public representatives. Upon receiving information, police and administrative staff reached the site and initiated an inquiry, the SDM added. He said that around 200 employees of the company were working in different shifts across multiple villages, most of whom are from West Bengal and face a language barrier with the locals. To ensure their safety amid growing tension, all employees were brought to the Hardi police station, he added. Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari said the company had drilled up to 30 metres underground using ammonium nitrate without prior intimation to villagers or authorities. 'Today, around 50-60 employees deployed on the field were called to the police station for questioning. No one has been detained so far. The decision on filing an FIR will be taken after further inquiry,' he said. Raising alarm, Mahsi MLA Sureshvar Singh said with the chief minister scheduled to visit on Tuesday, the presence of hundreds of outsiders and 500 kilograms of explosives in the district is highly concerning.
