Two robbers shot dead following shootout with cops in Nilai
The suspects, aged 29 and 40, were tracked down at the condominium by a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel from Bukit Aman and Negri Sembilan at about 10pm on Thursday (May 15) in an operation codenamed "Ops Api 3"
Bukit Aman deputy CID director Deputy Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus CID personnel attempted to apprehend the suspects but they fired shots, forcing the police to return fire in self defence.
"Both men died at the scene.
"One of the suspects had a semi-auto pistol while the other had a revolver," he said.
The suspects were part of an armed robbery gang active in house break-ins as well as robbing factories and courier parcel centres in Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Perak, DCP Fadil said.
"The 29-year-old suspect had prior records for 11 criminal offences while the 40-year-old suspect had records for 76 offences," he added.
DCP Fadil said police vehicles were also damaged during the shootout but none of the police personnel were injured.
"We are not ruling out the possibility that both suspects are also members of an underworld gang based on the use of firearms.
"We also believe the condominium is one of their transit or safe houses. We have also identified other similar locations," he said.
He said the CID will continue operations to hunt down remnants of the robbery gang as well as aim to recover the stolen loot.
However, he could not elaborate further in order not to jeopardise operations to track down other suspects.

The gathering was held in support of bullying victim Zara Qairina Mahathir, who was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory in Sabah on July 16 and died in hospital the following day. At the Children's Court in Kota Kinabalu yesterday, five teenagers pleaded not guilty to a charge under Section 507C(1) of the Penal Code, read together with Section 35, for using abusive words against the victim. If convicted, they face up to one year's imprisonment, a fine or both.

Home Minister confirms probe into tahfiz student's death to be reopened
KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed that police will reopen the investigation into the death of tahfiz student Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman, who is believed to have been murdered at a tahfiz school in Kok Lanas, Kelantan, in December 2013. He said there is no obstacle to reopening the case, as the original investigation file from 2013 is complete. "The case of Faris (Wan Ahmad Faris) was in 2013, and the inquest decision was in 2016. What was the inquest's decision? He was found hanging, and there was third-party involvement... that's why the family is now pushing to review the case. "I want to say this, yes... the police will reopen the investigation papers, which have been completed, (however) at that time (2013) the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) said there would be 'no further action' in the case. "I have discussed with the Criminal Investigation Department director about what is preventing us from reviewing the investigation papers. The police said there is no problem reopening the investigation papers because they are complete," he said when winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) motion for the ministry in the Dewan Rakyat today. On Monday, the family of the late Wan Ahmad Faris submitted a letter to Bukit Aman police requesting them to reopen the investigation file into the death of the tahfiz student. In December 2013, Wan Ahmad Faris, a Form Four student, was found hanging in the dormitory toilet of Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman, Kok Lanas in Kelantan. His body was reportedly found by the dormitory supervisor after detecting a foul odour from the toilet. Forensic experts who performed an autopsy on Wan Ahmad Faris's body confirmed the case as a sudden death unrelated to criminal elements. However, the Coroner's Court in June 2016 ruled that Wan Ahmad Faris' death was caused by the actions of an unknown individual. The Dewan Rakyat sitting resumes tomorrow.

14 roads in Putrajaya to close for National Day rehearsals
KUALA LUMPUR: Fourteen roads in Putrajaya will close from Aug 26 to Aug 29 for rehearsals for the National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the roads would be closed from 6am to 12pm on the listed dates. The affected roads are Lebuh Wawasan/Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Tun Razak/Lebuh Bestari, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan P2K, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Pembangunan and Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan P3C. Also affected are Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan P3F, Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Kemerdekaan, Lebuh Setia/Jalan Perpaduan, Lebuh Saujana/Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Setia/Jalan Tun Hussien, Jalan Kemerdekaan/Jalan Tun Hussien and Jalan Pembangunan/Jalan Tun Hussien. "Road closures starting at 10pm on Aug 29 will involve access to Core Island," he said today. He said 14 main roads will be fully closed until Aug 31. Fadil advised the public to plan their journey, arrive early and use public transport, such as the free shuttle bus operating every 15 minutes at three locations. He said the Putrajaya MRT Line would operate from 12.01am on Aug 30 until midnight on Aug 31, while the water taxi service would run from 8pm on Aug 30 to 1am on Aug 31 for the paid service and from 5am to 2pm on Aug 31 for the free service. "Obtain the latest information on public transport services through official social media platforms, at and from Perbadanan Putrajaya. "The public is advised not to park their vehicles in restricted areas or in places that could cause traffic disruption." or approach any nearby police station.
