Heskey brace helps City U18s beat Forest

Yahoo15-02-2025

Top goal scorer, Reigan Heskey, hit a brace and marked his 15th goal this campaign as City's Under-18s won 4-0 away at Nottingham Forest in the Under-18s Premier League North.
We couldn't of wished for a better start, as Reigan Heskey converted a penalty three minutes into the match after the winger was fouled by Evan Boulter.
Samba doubled the lead on his debut for the Under-18s towards the end of the first-half, tapping in a spilled ball from Keethan Willows after a Dante Headley cross.
Matty Warhurst guided the ball into the back of the net before Heskey capped off the scoring with a curling effort, as City picked up another three points in the league.
After progressing into the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday evening, Oliver Reiss's side were in full confidence travelling to Nottingham Forest.
With second-placed, Manchester United, dropping points last weekend, there was an opportunity to solidify our position at the summit and City got off to a flying start.
Inside two minutes, Reigan Heskey won a penalty after being fouled by Evan Boulter inside the box and the Under-18s top scorer converted the spot kick to hand City an early lead.
Christian Dunbar-McDonald nearly doubled our lead moments later as he tried to steer the ball past Keethan Willows after some neat footwork to give him space, but it went narrowly wide.
Finally Gorman won the ball back in Forest's defensive third and cushioned the ball to Matty Warhurst, who's attempt from the edge of the box, travelled comfortably into Willow's gloves.
During a period of pressure from the hosts, Fuad Smith powered forward with the ball before he brought Cormac Daly into play.
His cross was nearly guided in by Charlie Courtman, but it fortunately was directed straight to Max Hudson.
But before the half-time whistle, City were able to double our lead.
Dante Headley crossed the ball from the right and Willows spilled the ball and it landed to Tyrone Samba who tapped in his first goal on his maiden start for the Under-18s.
It could of been three as Dunbar-McDonald played Headley through, who had made a darting inverted run, but the full-back chose power over accuracy as the ball fired high and wide.
City continued to put pressure on Forest in the second-half, and half-time substitute, Divine Mukasa, had to have a half-volley tipped around the post by Willows.
A third goal was in our future on 72 minutes, as Dunbar-McDonald crossed perfectly into Matty Warhurst and the striker's shot was too powerful for the Forest shot stopper to add to the scoreline.
Mukasa provided quality from the bench, as he set up Kaden Braithwaite on the edge of the box and his strike was matched by an outstretched Willows, who kept the ball out.
We were still probing the Forest goal, and were denied a fourth late on as a Heskey snapshot was blocked by Bubacarr Sanneh, before Mukasa's header struck the crossbar.
But Heskey rounded off the scoring by securing his brace and his 15th goal this campaign in added time, after cutting inside and curling an effort past Willows as Reiss's men comfortably swept the East Midlands outfit aside.
Goalkeeper, Max Hudson, was selected to start and he was shielded by a back four of captain, Kaden Braithwaite, Kian Noble, Charlie Courtman and Dante Headley.
Harrison Miles anchored the midfield, with Finally Gorman and Tyrone Samba playing further up supporting the attack.
Matty Warhurst was positioned as a sole striker, supported by Christian Dunbar-McDonald and top goalscorer, Reigan Heskey.
FOREST XI | Willows, Sanneh (C), Bartley, Boulter, Broomes, Davies, Daly (87' Hamilton), A Bradshaw, Powell, Smith (87' Robinson), Brandy (90' K Bradshaw)
SUBS | Bailey, Lokote
CITY XI | Hudson, Headley, Courtman (64' Parker), Noble, Braithwaite (C), Miles (63' Fapetu), Dunbar-McDonald, Gorman, Warhurst (73' Fletcher), Samba (46' Mukasa), Heskey
SUBS | Doran
Victory for Oliver Reiss's team means we remain in top spot in the Under-18s Premier League North on 40 points, three points above Manchester United on second place who have a game in hand over us.
The result also represented our 13th successive win in the league, and during that run we have scored a league high 61 goals and conceding only 11.
City's Under-18s face a tough assignment next weekend as we play host to Tyne and Wear outfit, Sunderland who are positioned 4th in the league.
Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 (UK) on Saturday 22 February and CITY+ subscribers residing in the UK will be able to watch the action live.

Tijjani Reijnders ‘really excited' to link up with Man City for Club World Cup

Tijjani Reijnders 'could not wait' to undergo his medical with Manchester City and expects to be in their squad for the Club World Cup. The 26-year-old Netherlands midfielder has agreed a five-year contract to move to City from AC Milan for 55million euros (approximately £46million) and told Italian media he had spent Sunday conducting a medical with Pep Guardiola's side. Advertisement City will play their first match of the Club World Cup against Morocco's Wydad AC on June 18 and the arrival of Reijnders could also impact the future of Jack Grealish at City. Reijnders told Gazzetta: 'The medical? I couldn't wait to do it. The plan is to take part at the Club World Cup with City. I'm really excited about that. 'Doing that means I'll get to know my new team-mates soon.' Reijnders was a bright spark in a disappointing season for Milan, who only finished eighth in Serie A, missing out on qualification for Europe. Manchester City's Jack Grealish could leave this summer (Martin Rickett/PA) Reijnders, who joined the Italian giants from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023, scored 15 goals in 2024-25 and will bolster Guardiola's midfield options following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne. Advertisement As first reported by the Daily Telegraph on Wednesday, England international Grealish looks set to miss out on City's final 35-man squad for the Club World Cup. The 29-year-old was not summoned from the bench in last month's FA Cup final defeat by Crystal Palace and omitted from the squad for the last game of the season at Fulham altogether.

Transfer news: Gittens to Chelsea, Kepa to Arsenal, Livramento to Man City

There's plenty of juicy transfer news circling as some of the Premier League's big boys continue to act fast in the summer transfer window. MORE — Premier League ins and outs from the summer transfer window Below we round up the latest transfers news concerning Premier League clubs. Gittens the latest young star heading to Chelsea? A report from The Athletic says that Chelsea are in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund to sign 20-year-old winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens who wants the move and a seven-year contract is reportedly on the table. Fabrizio Romano has added that Dortmund have rejected a $40 million bid but Chelsea are going to improve their bid to sign Gittens. The England U21 international has played regularly in the Bundesliga since joining Dortmund from Man City in 2022. He played in City's U23 side alongside new signing Liam Delap, midfielder Romeo Lavia and star playmaker Cole Palmer, so he should slot in seamlessly. Gittens left City just before current Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was appointed as manager of their U23 side, but Maresca is clearly using his connections with that incredible U23 side. Gittens' arrival is a direct replacement for Jadon Sancho, as the winger is back at Manchester United after Chelsea declined the option to make his move permanent this summer. It lines up well with Chelsea's recruitment policy of signing young, hungry talent and Gittens has an eye for goal, makes things happen with his driving runs and has a lot of experience at the top level for his age. It all makes a lot of sense. Kepa to Arsenal is very sensible Gunner Blog has revealed that Arsenal are close to signing goalkeeper Kepa from Chelsea, with his $6.7 million release clause to be activated. The Spanish international goalkeeper, 30, was very impressive on loan at Bournemouth last season and it's a bit of a surprise that he's willing to go back to being a number two. But he will provide stiff competition for David Raya and it's very likely he will play at least 10-15 games a season to try and keep Raya fresh. This is a savvy move from Arsenal and gives them real competition in goal. Who knows, maybe Kepa will even usurp Raya? It's possible. Livramento to Man City is proving difficult Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester City are struggling to sign one of their main targets, Tino Livramento. Per his report, Newcastle aren't budging on their valuation of Livramento as the England international is clearly Pep Guardiola's top target to be their long-term right back. The deal is 'on standby' for now as City may now turn to other options. Livramento, 22, is a fine player and has shaken off his awful luck with injuries to be a really consistent player for Newcastle over the last 12 months. He was key in their League Cup win and reaching the Champions League, so Newcastle do not want to lose the Chelsea academy product. But this could be a once-in-a-lifetime move for Livramento and his pace, direct running and ability to get on the ball and surge into midfield suits Guardiola's system perfectly.

Jack Grealish needs regular football for World Cup consideration

Thomas Tuchel loves Jack Grealish but says the out-of-favour Manchester City star needs to find regular football to force his way back into the England reckoning ahead of the World Cup. The 29-year-old has found minutes hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium this season and been overlooked for both squads since the German coach took charge. Advertisement Tuchel said he loved Grealish's personality, courage and quality after leaving him out in March due to a lack of game-time, with the attacking midfielder making just six City appearances since then. Grealish has found minutes hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium this season (Martin Rickett/PA) City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to leave the former Aston Villa player out of his Club World Cup squad and a summer exit appears on the cards. England boss Tuchel said: 'My thoughts are still the same. I love Jack for his personality and of course his talent. 'He is a very unique player who can handle big pressure on the field. He is never shy of pressure. It's the opposite. 'He grows in big matches but he's a player who needs minutes and minutes and minutes and simply does not get them for a very long time. That's basically everything. Nothing has changed. Advertisement 'I have maybe the same information as you that City are thinking of not taking him to the Club World Cup, so he needs to make himself available by playing. I think it's one of his key strengths. 'To go every three days and get better and better with every minute that he has in his legs – that's what is missing, nothing else. 'I have spoken to him after the first international camp and very shortly after the FA Cup final but not since then.' There are no City players in England's squad for June's double-header, but nine of the group are heading to the Club World Cup. Tuchel said he was not overthinking that aspect and, just like he did at the squad announcement, stressed that international matters took precedence. Advertisement Asked if clubs had requested players did not feature in both Saturday's qualifier against Andorra and the Senegal friendly on Tuesday, he said: 'No one has asked me that question. 'I said also many times, I was like 15 years I think in club football, I think I have never asked an international coach what to do and how to use the players. 'We have very limited time for ourselves. We have our very own interest also to see a lot of the players that are in camp and maybe even all of the players that are in camp, so we have an own interest to mix the teams. 'But no coach has called me and there was no request from the FA that a club called. Advertisement 'We know the clubs have a lot of matches and the players go after to the Club World Cup. 'But it can also happen that some players start twice for us, but like I said, we also have an interest to see a lot of players in these two matches, so I think we will not in the end upset anyone.' Bukayo Saka might not be risked against Andorra as he recovers from a knock (Bradley Collyer/PA) Another player heading to the Club World Cup is Liam Delap, who is going there with new club Chelsea rather than leading the line for England Under-21s at the Euros. 'It would have been nice for him and for the FA for him to play a big tournament, but that's nowadays football,' said Tuchel, who may not risk Bukayo Saka against Andorra as he recovers from a knock. 'There are some rules and its club first. It would have been nice to do the 21s and would have been nice to see him lead the under-21s as the main striker.'
