Dubai Municipality and BiOD Technology sign landmark MoU
The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials including Fahad Al-Awadhi, Director of Sewerage and Recycled Water Projects Department at Dubai Municipality; Yousef Bastaki, Board Member of BiOD Technology; and Shiva Viga, CEO of BiOD Technology. The collaboration aligns with Dubai's long-term sustainability strategies, supports local green economy growth, and strengthens the emirate's transition to cleaner energy sources.
As per the terms of the MoU, BiOD Technology is authorised to collect UCO and FOG from across Dubai and process them into biodiesel. The initiative not only helps prevent these waste materials from polluting the sewage infrastructure, but also significantly reduces the environmental footprint and operational costs associated with wastewater treatment.
Adel Al Marzooqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, said: 'This partnership represents a significant step in our mission to advance Dubai's environmental agenda through innovative and sustainable waste-to-energy solutions. By turning waste into a valuable energy resource, we not only protect vital infrastructure and reduce environmental risks but also contribute effectively to achieving the goals outlined in Dubai's Vision 2030 for environmental sustainability.'

The facility will add a daily operational capacity of 150 tonnes to Linen Craft's existing network, which currently handles 280 tonnes daily across four facilities. It includes two large hospitality-dedicated laundry units with a combined capacity of 142 tonnes daily, plus an independent garment processing unit capable of handling over 28,000 items daily. Linen Craft is the largest and most reliable laundry service provider in the UAE, serving over 100 clients across aviation, hospitality, healthcare, and corporate fashion sectors. It employs a specialised team of 1,300 professionals, reinforcing its leadership in the industry.

UAE Central Bank maintain benchmark interest rate
The UAE Central Bank on Wednesday announced that it maintained its benchmark rate. In a statement, the Central Bank said it was maintaining its Overnight Deposit Facility at 4.4 per cent. The decision was taken after the US Federal Reserve maintained its benchmark rate at 4.25-4.5 per cent. The UAE follows US monetary policy as the dirham is pegged to the US dollar.

US Federal Reserve maintains benchmark interest rate
The US Federal Reserve on Wednesday held its benchmark interest rate, despite President Donald Trump's pressure to reduce borrowing costs. At the end of the two-day meeting of the Federal Open Markets Committee, the US central bank announced that it had decided to maintain the federal funds rate at 4.25 per cent to 4.5 per cent. Analysts stress that Trump's suggestion of cutting rates to as low as one per cent is far out of line with economic realities. While the US economy expanded at a higher than expected pace of 3 per cent in Q2, the Fed said it remains wary about inflation pressures, which still remains above the target of 2 per cent.
