Int'l Health and Safety Passport delivered in Iraq for first time

The first Iraqi cohort to complete the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board's International Health and Safety Passport (IHSP) have been presented with their certificates.
The 15 learners completed the IHSP Foundation course as part of a five-month pilot construction training programme at Basra Technical Training Centre (BTTC), developed by Wood Al Majal in North Rumaila.
IHSP aims to reduce site accidents and improve safety standards across multiple industry sectors in Iraq.
Wood Al Majal partnered with Southern Technical University to select students for the IHSP pilot programme.

Iraq pushes ahead with Baghdad Airport redevelopment

Baghdad ( Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani has met with representatives of a six-company foreign consortium bidding to redevelop Baghdad International Airport under a public–private partnership. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), acting as lead advisor, is overseeing the project, which will be fully financed by the winning bidder. Plans include new passenger terminals for nine million travelers annually, scalable to 15 million, along with upgraded runways, safety systems, and internal transport. The Iraqi government will retain control over customs, air traffic, and security, while the private operator manages terminals, cargo, and infrastructure, sharing revenues with the state. The project forms part of Iraq's broader drive to modernize its logistics and transport network.

CBI, IFC consider New Leasing Company for Iraqi Start-Ups

Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) Governor Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq has met Bilal Al-Saghir, the International Finance Corporation's (IFC) Resident Representative in Iraq, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in training Iraq's banking sector workforce. The parties intend to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the matter in the coming period. They also discussed a proposal to establish a leasing finance company with both local and foreign participation, aimed at supporting startups and small- to medium-sized enterprises by offering flexible financing for assets such as industrial equipment, vehicles, offices, and warehouses. The meeting further addressed the CBI's ongoing banking reform plan, implemented with assistance from Oliver Wyman and in line with international standards, to enhance the sector's global standing and restore several Iraqi banks' ability to engage in international transactions.
