Clemson adds player from fellow ACC team as preferred walk-on Hayes Galloway will join his father Lonnie, a wide receivers coach and offensive analyst, after announcing his decision to transfer to Clemson as a preferred walk-on Wednesday.
Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have picked up a commitment from an ACC football player.
Former North Carolina Tar Heels offensive lineman Hayes Galloway announced in a post to social media Wednesday that he had committed to Clemson football as a preferred walk-on. Galloway is the son of Lonnie Galloway, a Tigers wide receivers coach and offensive analyst.
Coach Galloway joined Clemson in February after previously serving as the Tar Heels' wide receivers coach for Mack Brown prior to Bill Belichick being named head coach in December.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 320 pounds, Hayes Galloway was a freshman at UNC in 2024 who enrolled in January and redshirted last season. He played five years at The Cannon School in Concord, N.C., where he was a five-time team captain and a two-time all-conference selection.
Preferred walk-ons are granted a spot on a team's roster but without the benefit of an athletic scholarship.

Clemson climbs ESPN's latest 2026 recruiting rankings as the hot recruiting run continues Clemson football's 2026 recruiting class continues to climb the national ranks as ESPN bumped the Tigers up to No. 4 in its latest update, reflecting a strong June filled with key visits and commitments. The Tigers now boast 10 ESPN 300 commitments, keeping them firmly in the top tier of national recruiters. Leading the charge on offense is recent addition Leo Delaney, the top-rated offensive commit in the class according to ESPN. The offensive tackle ranks No. 75 overall and No. 11 at his position. He also pointed to four-star quarterback Tait Reynolds, a dual-threat prospect out of Arizona, as someone who could eventually develop into a long-term answer behind center once Cade Klubnik's time at Clemson ends. While much of the class is built around offense, the Tigers have also landed a key defensive piece in in-state standout Kentavion Anderson. At roughly 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Anderson brings length and athleticism to the back end of the defense and is expected to be a versatile presence in the secondary. Clemson holds the No. 4 spot not only in ESPN's rankings, but also in the 247Sports Composite, with a No. 2 ranking from 247Sports and No. 3 from Rivals. On3 ranks the class No. 7 overall. Notre Dame hires alum Jas Smith as Director of Operations for women's basketball Jas Smith has strong ties to South Bend Notre Dame women's basketball has added a new member to the front-office family. Jas Smith is the new Director of Operations for the Fighting Irish. The 2016 Notre Dame graduate is returning after serving as the director of operations for LSU football since January of 2022. It's no shock that Smith was working for former Notre Dame football head coach Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge -- she served as his coordinator of on-campus recruiting at Notre Dame from 2018-2021. Before that, she was an ambassador for Notre Dame football while an undergraduate student in South Bend. She has a degree in information technology management from Notre Dame. She also worked as an admissions counselor at Notre Dame from 2016-2017. She worked as a director for undergraduate admissions at Nova Southeastern University after leaving Notre Dame, and she had a stop at the Special Olympics in Miami, where she was a senior sports manager, in 2021 when she was between stints working for Kelly. She'll be working under new men's and women's basketball general manager Pat Garrity. The men's team is continuing to try to rebuild, while the women's team will be working to get over a disappointing Sweet 16 loss in last season's tournament.
