USMNT thrashed 4-0 by Switzerland in final Gold Cup tuneup

The idea that the United States men's national soccer team can simply roll out a third- or fourth-string lineup in this summer's Concacaf Gold Cup and still contend for the regional championship against the mostly full-strength likes of Canada or Mexico took a major hit on Tuesday, with Switzerland embarrassing a green American side 4-0 in its final pre-tournament friendly in Nashville, Tennessee. U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino made nine lineup changes following Saturday's hard-fought 2-1 loss to another powerful European foe in Türkiye, and the Swiss carved through the hosts' defense with ease, scoring all four goals in a 23-minute stretch in the first half. Pochettino removed five of those starters at halftime, but their replacements could only stop the bleeding. Just over a year out from the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted bythe U.S., the national team is, for various reasons, without as many as 10 regulars this summer, including star forward Christian Pulisic, midfielder Weston McKennie, fullback Antonee Robinson, and strikers Folarin Balogun and Ricardo Pepi. Pochettino also left several of those picked for Concacaf Nations League losses to Panama and Canada in March off this summer's squad. Their replacements didn't cover themselves in glory on Tuesday, displaying both unforced errors and the same worrying lack of urgency that plagued the varsity squad in March. Here are a few quick thoughts on Tuesday's contest. Play of the game Nineteen-year-old Swiss winger Johan Manzambi added insult to injury when he fired the visitors fourth past a helpless Matt Turner in the 36th minute Turner spilled a shot that allowed Monaco striker Breel Embolo to tap home the back-breaking third: Tuesday's defeat was the Americans' fourth straight, its longest losing streak since 2007. That was part of a string of five consecutive defeats. Three of those came in Venezuela in the Copa América group stage, when the U.S. also used what amounted to a "C" team. The USMNT had lost four in a row at home only once before Tuesday, way back in 1988. What's next for the USMNT? The U.S. opens its Gold Cup group stage schedule on Sunday against Trinidad and Tobago in San Jose, California. Who will Poch choose to start against the Soca Warriors? A number of players surely earned a spot on the bench for the Gold Cup following Tuesday's debacle. Others — Patrick Agyemang, Diego Luna, Malik Tillman — can probably expect to log big minutes over the next couple of weeks. They need to fight for their World Cup lives this summer. For others, it could already be too late. Doug McIntyre is a soccer reporter for FOX Sports who has covered United States men's and women's national teams at FIFA World Cups on five continents. Brad Pitt Reveals "F1" Film Was His Dream Experience

Motorsport fans are about to get a high-octane dose of cinema with F1 — the upcoming highly-anticipated film that's already being hailed as one of the most ambitious racing movies ever made. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski, F1 stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula 1 driver who returns to the sport to race for a fictional team called APXGP (pronounced 'apex'). He's joined by British actor Damson Idris, who plays rookie teammate Joshua Pearce. And while the team and characters may be fictional, almost everything else about the film is very, very real. While kicking off the press tour in Mexico City, Pitt called the project 'a dream come true', revealing that he'd been trying to make a racing film for decades. 'For me, it was just a no-brainer,' he said. 'When Joe had this audacious plan to invent us in the racing season, to put us actually in the cars, it was just a dream come true.' Kosinski's vision was clear from the beginning: to make the most immersive and realistic racing film ever made. That meant no faking it — Pitt and Idris had to actually learn how to drive. 'We started this training and we ended up getting to drive for basically two years in the making of this,' Pitt explained. 'By the end of it, Damps and I — I say we were quite tasty… as drivers.' That realism extended beyond just learning how to drive. Pitt and the production team — with major help from seven-time world champion and executive producer Lewis Hamilton — gained access to the inner workings of F1, even sitting in on drivers' meetings to ensure authenticity. Pitt said it was important to earn the respect of the sport and its athletes. 'We had to go in and just try to earn their trust, let them know how much we respect the sport, how much we want to get it right, and how much we want to include them,' he shared. The cars themselves posed another challenge. Pitt described the Formula 1 steering wheel as 'extreme', filled with too many buttons to count. 'The idea of being in the car and dealing with these forces, G-forces, the physics of it all, is just something you cannot fake,' he said. 'It is incredible what these guys can do.' He added that the precision and speed required from F1 drivers was 'staggering', especially considering how tightly packed the grid is during races. 'The idea that these guys can go around a four-mile track and all be within one second of each other — it's awesome,' Pitt said. 'It's a religion for me. The downforce, the way these cars stick — there's nothing I can compare it to.' A huge part of the film's authenticity comes from Hamilton's input — both creatively and technically. 'We would have meetings with him — some 12-hour meetings — as we developed the story and the script,' Pitt said. 'A lot of him is in the film, certainly in the way the story ends. Even in post, he would tell us things like, 'You're in the wrong gear at Turn 6', or, 'Make sure you add the reverb when you go down the straight'. His knowledge is unfathomable.' F1 hits Australian cinemas on June 26, 2025 and judging by the scale, the access, and the passion behind it, it's set to become a defining moment in motorsport cinema.

Micah Parsons will attend Cowboys training camp with or without a contract extension: 'I'll be out there'

Micah Parsons confirmed that he would attend the Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California in August, even if he and the team do not reach a new contractual agreement. The statement comes as the pass rusher attempts to negotiate a new deal in Dallas. On Tuesday, Parsons was present at the Cowboys mandatory minicamp and told media members, 'I'll be out there.' Advertisement Parsons did not clarify if he would be participating in the Oxnard camps despite guaranteeing his presence. He also did not participate in drills on Tuesday despite addressing the press. According to The Athletic's Jon Machota, Parsons mentioned a lengthy meeting with team owner Jerry Jones in which his contract was not discussed. The Cowboys' minicamp runs through Thursday, meaning Parsons may get an answer about his contract over the next 48 hours. Before Tuesday, Parsons made a social media statement that had fans wondering if he was foreshadowing a training camp holdout. 'Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook!' Parsons posted on X. 'I'm preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it's in the owner's hands. I'm ready to win a Super Bowl." Advertisement Parsons is currently under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract that pays him $24 million in 2025. In his fourth year with America's Team, the 26-year-old tallied 30 solo and 13 assisted tackles with 12 sacks. Unfortunately, after three straight 12-5 seasons, the Cowboys had a tragic 7-10 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2021. The brutal ending led to the Cowboys firing coach Mike McCarthy after five seasons. The head coach was replaced by Brian Schottenheimer, who assured Parsons his contractual limbo would be sorted. After Parsons called his new coach for a TikTok video, Schottenheimer commended Parsons' attitude over the situation. 'I know this is weird for everybody, but look, you're handling everything the right way, bro,' Schottenheimer told Parsons. 'This thing is going to get worked out.'
