Google is rolling out a test that puts its AI-powered Audio Overviews on the first page of search results on mobile. The experiment, which you can enable in Labs, will let you generate an AI podcast-style discussion for certain queries.
If you search for something like, 'How do noise cancellation headphones work?', Google will display a button beneath the 'People also ask' module that says, 'Generate Audio Overview.' Once you click the button, it will take up to 40 seconds to generate an Audio Overview, according to Google.
The completed Audio Overview will appear in a small player embedded within your search results, where you can play, pause, mute, and adjust the playback speed of the clip. Similar to Audio Overviews on NotebookLM and Gemini, this one also features two AI-generated 'hosts' who enthusiastically discuss the topic you want to learn more about. You'll also find links to some of the sources used by Audio Overview directly below the playback bar in Search.
Right now, Audio Overviews in Search is only available in English in the US. Google has started putting Audio Overviews in more places since the tool launched last year, allowing users to generate audio discussions based on notes, Gemini's deep research, files in Google Docs, and more.

Google unveils Gemini 2.5 Deep Think, its most advanced AI model

Google has introduced Gemini 2.5 Deep Think, its most advanced AI reasoning model, capable of processing multiple ideas at once to provide the best solution. This new model runs multiple agents in parallel, using computational resources to explore various possibilities before selecting the most accurate answer. Unveiled in May 2025 at Google I/O, Gemini 2.5 Deep Think is the first publicly available multi-agent AI from the company. It recently helped Google win a gold medal at the International Math Olympiad (IMO), where its version solved complex mathematical problems. For researchers, scientists, and academics tackling hard problems: Gemini 2.5 Deep Think is here. 🤯 It doesn't just answer, it brainstorms using parallel thinking and reinforcement learning techniques. We put it into the hands of mathematicians who explored what it can do ↓ — Google DeepMind (@GoogleDeepMind) August 1, 2025 Available to Google's Ultra plan subscribers, priced at $250 per month, Gemini 2.5 Deep Think is housed in the Gemini app. Google is now sharing its IMO-winning model with a select group of academics and researchers. Unlike traditional models, this system can take hours to reason, making it invaluable for academic use cases, as reported by Tech Crunch. Gemini 2.5 Deep Think also performed impressively on the Humanity's Last Exam (HLE), scoring 34.8%, surpassing competitors like xAI's Grok 4 and OpenAI's o3. The AI integrates with tools like code execution and Google Search, providing more detailed and creative responses than most models. It has shown potential to transform fields like research and development. While multi-agent systems are more resource-intensive than traditional models, Google has made the Gemini 2.5 Deep Think available through its premium subscription to fund the necessary infrastructure. Google plans to roll out Gemini 2.5 Deep Think to select testers via the Gemini API to understand its use in business and development, further solidifying its AI leadership.

GenAI apps double revenue to $1.87 billion, hit 1.7b downloads in 2025

Generative AI apps have experienced remarkable growth in the first half of 2025, with downloads reaching 1.7 billion and in-app revenue doubling to $1.87 billion. According to a Sensor Tower report this compares to 1 billion downloads and $932 million in revenue in the second half of 2024. Users spent 15.6 billion hours on these apps across 426 billion sessions in H1 2025, up from 8.5 billion hours in H2 2024. Asia led download growth with a 42.6% market share, driven by markets like India and China, achieving an 80% increase compared to 51% in Europe and 39% in North America. Latin America saw the highest growth in in-app purchases, though North America retained a 40% revenue share. ChatGPT dominated in-app revenue globally, except in China, where DeepSeek led downloads shortly after its launch. Users engaged with ChatGPT for an average of 12.1 days per month, matching the usage frequency of platforms like X and Reddit, with only Google surpassing it. The report noted increased weekend usage, suggesting reliance beyond work-related tasks. 'ChatGPT's usage patterns are increasingly similar to Google's, serving as a primary tool for consumers both during and outside work hours,' the report stated. In H1 2025, ChatGPT averaged 16 minutes of daily usage, nearing the 18.2 minutes for top search engines and browsers. Over a third of Q2 2025 prompts were lifestyle and entertainment-related, spanning health, shopping, finance, and meal planning. More than 15% of US ChatGPT users access it across web and mobile, outpacing platforms like Temu and Threads but trailing Google, Facebook, and Amazon. Other popular apps included Character AI, PolyBuzz, DeepSeek, and Perplexity. The term 'AI' appeared over 100,000 times in app store descriptions, with AI-related apps downloaded 7.5 billion times in H1 2025, comprising 10% of total downloads. Categories like AI assistants, content generation, photo editing, and education saw increased AI branding, though Sensor Tower noted that adding 'AI' to app names often yields only short-term download boosts.
