Fresh off another world record, Duplantis ready to push boundaries again
The gravity-defying Swede broke the world record for a 13th time on Tuesday, clearing 6.29 metres at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, and will be one of the biggest attractions at next month's World Championships in Tokyo.
"The natural next step would be 6.30. And I think that would be a huge barrier to cross for me and for the sport in general," Duplantis told reporters on Thursday.
"I'll be there soon. And then I guess naturally then I'll just keep looking forward whenever I'm able to cross that, hopefully in the near future. As far as the limit, I don't really think about it."
Duplantis first put the world on notice five years ago as a 20-year-old when he cleared 6.17 for the first time, breaking Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie's previous record mark set in 2014.
At the Tokyo worlds, which run from September 13-21, he will revisit the site of his Olympic breakthrough, where he won his first of two Games golds in the COVID-delayed 2021 Games.
Deprived of a crowd amid public health restrictions due to the pandemic four years ago, Duplantis is eager to return with the full backing of his fans.
"I haven't been this excited about a competition maybe ever," said Duplantis, who plans to compete in the Silesia Diamond League meet on Saturday and the top-flight circuit's finale in Zurich later this month.
"It's going to be such an amazing stadium when it's more full and has the energy of the crowd. I think that definitely should give me a good push."

Richardson takes flying start world record a year on from nation switch
Aug 15 (Reuters) - British track cyclist Matt Richardson set the world record in the 200-metre flying start, becoming the first person to break the nine-second barrier a year on from his defection from Australia. Richardson, who won three medals for Australia at the Paris Olympics, recorded a time of 8.941 seconds at the Konya Velodrome in Turkey on Thursday. The time shaved more than a tenth of a second off the previous mark of 9.088 set by Dutch Olympic champion Harrie Lavreysen at the Paris Games last year. "It's cool to be able to call myself the fastest cyclist of all-time," Richardson said in a British Cycling statement. "It was a lot faster than I've previously ridden. I was basically just a passenger. I gave the bike a bit of direction and it was just steering itself almost." Richardson's change of allegiance straight after the Olympics took Australia by surprise and generated some criticism from elite former cyclists. Richardson brushed off the criticism, saying he made a "good return" on the investment Australia's elite cycling programme had put into him.

Ozzie Albies' big day fuels Braves' rally in win over Mets
August 15 - Ozzie Albies capped a big game with the tie-breaking RBI double in the eighth inning Thursday night for the visiting Atlanta Braves, who edged the New York Mets 4-3 in the rubber game of a three-game series. Albies was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs for the Braves, who have won six of eight. Michael Harris II was also 3-for-4 with a run-scoring double in the eighth. He raced home on Albies' double against Ryan Helsley (3-3). Francisco Lindor was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored for the Mets, who fell to 2-10 this month. Angels look to continue 2025 dominance of Athletics in road series
August 15 - The Los Angeles Angels are brimming with confidence as they prepare for Friday's opener of a three-game set against the Athletics in West Sacramento, Calif. The bravado isn't solely limited to smacking 13 homers while being 7-0 against the A's this season. The Angels are coming off a three-game sweep of the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers in the Freeway Series to finish off a clean 6-0 sweep of the season series. Suddenly, the Angels are just three games below .500 and are creeping into the American League wild-card race. They stood five games behind the New York Yankees for the third and final wild card entering Thursday's play. "I hope this is a good wake-up call for all of us that whatever we do, however we prepare and get ready to play a world champ like that and we swept them, that's the same mentality, the same energy, same motivation we've got to have the rest of the way," Angels closer Kenley Jansen said. "It's great to sweep them, but I want to get to the postseason." Logan O'Hoppe delivered the decisive two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Angels a 6-5 victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday night. It was a feel-good moment for the catcher, who had 14 homers at the conclusion of May and just four since. "It's one I've wanted for a while," O'Hoppe said of the winning hit. He's leaving a great impression." The A's will send rookie right-hander Jack Perkins (1-2, 4.08 ERA) to the mound against Los Angeles left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (6-7, 3.37) in the opening game. Perkins, 25, earned his first big league victory with six strong innings against the Baltimore Orioles last Saturday. He gave up three runs and three hits. Kikuchi, 34, has won two straight starts. He beat the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, allowing four runs and eight hits over five innings. He excelled against the Athletics on June 9 when he allowed one hit over 7 1/3 shutout innings.
