Cardi B is no stranger to ASCAP accolades with another prestigious honor soon to join her trophy case.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers said Wednesday that Cardi B will receive the Voice of the Culture Award. She'll be honored at ASCAP's invite-only event celebrating the top hip-hop, R&B and gospel songwriters on June 8 in Los Angeles.
"Being recognized for the impact my songs have had on the culture means everything to me," Cardi B said in a statement. "I've always wanted my platform and my music to stay true to who I am and inspire others to do the same, so this honor is especially meaningful."
The Voice of the Culture Award is presented to ASCAP members who have had a major influence on music and culture, recognizing their success as creators and changemakers. Usher was the recipient of the honor last year.
Cardi B made history in 2020 as the first woman to receive consecutive Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year Awards. She's won 23 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music awards.
The hip-hop superstar is a Grammy winner whose "Invasion of Privacy" won best rap album in 2019. She's known for hits such as "Bodak Yellow," "I Like It" and "WAP."
"Cardi B has left an indelible mark on the culture of hip-hop by redefining and challenging the norms for women," said Paul Williams, chairman of the board and president at ASCAP. "Having broken through countless barriers with her unapologetic authenticity and talent, she continues to use her voice to advocate for and inspire others, a true testament to her undeniable impact."

Pop singer Jessie J says she has been diagnosed with early breast cancer

The English pop singer Jessie J says she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery after her performance at the London music festival Capital's Summertime Ball next weekend. Jessie J, 37, shared the news in an Instagram video on Wednesday. "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,' she said in the clip. "Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word 'early'." "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive (expletive) and more music.' The annual Summertime Ball will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, June 15. She told her social media audience that she felt compelled to share her diagnosis. "I just wanted to be open and share it,' she said. "One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse - that's the bit that kills me.' The Grammy-nominated Jessie J has long been celebrated for her robust soprano and R&B-informed pop hits, like the 2014 collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, "Bang Bang,' and 2011's "Domino.' She has released five albums across her career, most recently, 2018's Christmas album, "This Christmas Day.' She has been releasing new music in 2025, including the singles "Living My Best Life' and "No Secrets.' A new album is expected later this year. She has a son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, born in 2023. A representative for Jessie J did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' request for comment. Associated Press

Sabrina Carpenter reveals real inspiration behind 'Manchild'

Grammy winning-singer Singer Sabrina Carpenter has finally revealed the real reason behind her latest song "Manchild", amid speculation that it was inspired by a former partner. The 26-year-old "Busy Woman" singer shared a candid caption explaining how her latest single came about. According to the 'Espresso' hitmaker, she wrote "Manchild" on "a random" Tuesday with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff, not long after she finished her sixth album, Short n' Sweet, reports "It ended up being the best random Tuesday of my life," Carpenter wrote on Instagram. Between cheeky photos from the set of her new single, which is out now, she confessed it was "so fun to write." "But this song became to me something I can look back on that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life. It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll and it feels like a never ending road trip in the summer ! Hence why I wanted to give it to you now- so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long!" She added: "and thank you men for testing me!!." Though neither Carpenter's song nor her Instagram caption makes mention of any one of her former partners in particular, the "Feather" singer was most recently linked to Barry Keoghan. The former couple first sparked romance rumors as they were spotted grabbing dinner together in Los Angeles in early December 2023 before taking a break the following December. Carpenter gained prominence starring in the series Girl Meets World. She released her debut single, "Can't Blame a Girl for Trying" in 2014, followed by the studio albums Eyes Wide Open, Evolution, Singular: Act I, and Singular: Act II. Her sixth studio album, Short n' Sweet, topped the US Billboard 200, produced the top-three US Billboard Hot 100 singles "Espresso", "Please Please Please" and "Taste", and won two Grammy Awards. Rod Stewart postpones Las Vegas show citing health issues

Singer Rod Stewart called in sick four hours before his show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. "I'm sorry to inform you that I'm not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10," the 80-year-old rock legend said in a post to his Instagram Story. "Your tickets will be valid for the new date." The venue, Caesars, also confirmed the postponement of the show scheduled. According to Deadline, billed as The Encore Shows, the series follows 200 performances in the Grammy winner's 13-year residency after he decided he didn't want to stop playing Caesars. The current Encore run lasts through October 4. In 2023, Stewart cancelled an Australian tour date six hours before the show, citing a viral infection that irritated his throat. Last year, the singer also cancelled his concerts due to Covid-19. Ticket holders were informed to "hold on to their tickets as they will be honoured for the rescheduled shows. "Rod's illness followed the singer missing the 200th show of his long-running Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace on when he cited strep throat as the reason for his absence. At the time, he noted on Instagram, "Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused." Rod is best known for singing memorable tracks such as I Don't Want To Talk About It, Downtown Train and You're In My Heart, among others.
