Samsung has introduced a new pair of truly wireless earphones in India, called the Galaxy Buds Core. These are the company's latest budget earbuds and come as a more affordable option after the Galaxy Buds FE, which were launched last year. The Buds Core are now officially available for purchase starting June 27 through Amazon, Samsung's online store, and offline retail outlets. The new earphones are priced at Rs 4,999 in the country.advertisementThe Galaxy Buds Core come with a familiar wingtip design. Samsung is also offering multiple sizes of ear tips and wing tips in the box, so users can choose the best fit based on comfort. This type of design is especially helpful for people who use earphones during workouts or long calls. In terms of audio, the Buds Core uses a single-driver setup, which the company claims will offer deep bass and clear sound. Each earbud also includes three microphones, which should help improve voice clarity during phone calls by reducing background noise.
Samsung has included some useful features as well. One of the highlights is Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which the company claims can help block out unwanted sounds when you are in noisy environments like traffic or public transport. There is also an Ambient Sound option that lets in outside noise when you want to stay aware of your surroundings.advertisementSamsung has added support for Galaxy AI's Interpreter feature, which allows real-time voice call transcriptions, an unexpected but useful addition for people who often switch between languages or deal with important phone conversations. But, it remains to be seen whether it will work smoothly in the real world. The earbuds are also said to work smoothly across different Galaxy devices. Whether you are switching from a phone to a tablet or a laptop, the Buds Core can automatically connect to the device you're using. The Buds Core promises to offer up to 35 hours of total battery life with the case if ANC is turned off. If you keep ANC on, the usage time drops to around 20 hours. The earbuds support USB-C charging and come with an IP54 rating, which makes them resistant to dust and minor splashes, an upgrade over the Buds FE's lower protection.Samsung is offering the Galaxy Buds Core in White and Black colours. As part of a launch deal, buyers of selected Galaxy A series smartphones — such as the Galaxy A26, A36, or A56 — will get a Rs 1,000 discount on the new earbuds. With this launch, Samsung seems to be giving users a simple and practical wireless earbud option without cutting out important features.- Ends

AI at work: Job cuts and tech leader opinions

Amazon recently announced to nearly 350,000 of its employees that they must either relocate to one of its main office hubs like Seattle, Arlington (Virginia), and Washington, D.C., or leave the company without receiving severance pay. It is interesting to note how readily the company is willing to let go of employees simply to enforce a return to office-based work. However, this should not come as a surprise, given how Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has said time and again that AI adoption will reduce the company's corporate workforce. Like Amazon, many other major tech firms, including Meta, Microsoft, Google, and others, have also been affected by waves of layoffs, especially given the disruption brought about by artificial intelligence (AI). The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in April, warned that AI could impact up to 40% of jobs worldwide. In May, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said professionals in many fields, including art and medicine, could become irrelevant if they do not adapt to AI. Around the same time, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that every job is going to be affected by AI. 'You are not going to lose your job to AI, but you are going to lose your job to somebody who uses AI,' Huang said. Last month, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei openly warned that AI could eat away nearly half of all entry-level white collar jobs, and soon. However, these are not just random claims but are backed by data. According to a report by McKinsey and Company, between 400 and 800 million jobs could be displaced worldwide within five years, depending on how quickly automation is shift could force around 375 million workers—14% of the global workforce—to transition into entirely new it comes to India, the Economic Survey 2024-25 has raised similar concerns and called attention to the heightened worries of workers and the speed at which AI is transforming the labour market. Hitesh Oberoi, CEO of Info Edge (which operates recently said AI isn't just about job cuts but changing the nature of work. He emphasised the need to focus on developing new skills. Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu, however, gave a more radical view on this issue. He said on X, 'The productivity revolution I see coming to software development (LLMs + tooling) could destroy a lot of software jobs. This is sobering but necessary to internalise.' The other side However, not all CEOs are eager to expand AI use. Klarna Group, a fintech firm, has chosen to reduce its AI-powered customer service. CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski explained that the model led to a drop in service quality, and the company is now adjusting its approach. 'Really investing in the quality of human support is the way of the future for us,' he workers, too, have adopted a positive approach to AI integration in the workplace. A study by SnapLogic found that 81% of office workers believe AI enhances their job performance and overall work there is a diverse range of opinions on this topic, it is clear that workers will have to adapt to the changes brought in by the AI revolution.

Samsung unveils Odyssey 3D gaming monitor with glasses-free 3D experience

Samsung has announced its new gaming monitor, the Samsung Odyssey 3D, on Friday, June 27. The monitor is set to revolutionise 3D gaming by eliminating the need to use glasses. This is a move that Samsung believes will remove any discomfort commonly associated with 3D content. 'The Odyssey 3D represents Samsung's commitment to pushing the boundaries of display innovation, offering gamers a smarter, sharper, and crosstalk-free 3D experience while maintaining top-tier performance for 2D content. This groundbreaking monitor not only redefines immersive gaming but also solidifies Samsung's leadership in the gaming monitor market,' the company said in its official release. For the monitor's 3D content, Samsung is making use of three core technologies: eye-tracking, view mapping, and a lenticular lens. But how does it work? Firstly, the eye-tracking technology uses two stereo cameras at the top of the monitor to detect and track the user's real-time eye movement. These cameras then capture images in real time to gauge the distance between the user's eyes and the monitor. This technology is able to capture the user's eyes even if they are wearing glasses. Based on these images, the monitor calculates an accurate pixel positioning and delivers a 3D image using view mapping. Then, the final images are separately delivered to each eye through the Odyssey 3D's lenticular lens, using light refraction. This feature is functional even in case of user movement, as the monitor readjusts itself. The lenticular lens activates only when the user enables 3D mode from the Odyssey 3D Hub. Odyssey 3D is not just about its 3D feature, it also comes with some performance enhancements. It comes with a 165 Hz refresh rate, alongside a 1 ms response time. The monitor is also NVIDIA G-Sync compatible, providing the user a faster, smoother gaming experience. In order to prevent 'crosstalk', or misaligned images causing visual discomfort, Samsung has used post-assembly calibration, hardware-specific data storage, and a deep learning-based eye-tracking algorithm. The monitor also has a specially engineered display cell coating, which reduces light distortion and glare to further enhance image clarity.
