Outlander fans spot 'hidden gem' Easter egg in show that's 'mind blowing'

Outlander fans have been left in awe by the link
Outlander enthusiasts were utterly astonished upon stumbling upon an Easter egg within the show, sparking quite the buzz, reports the Express.
This particular Easter egg made its sneaky appearance in the fourth episode of season three, dubbed Of Lost Things, just as the episode was reaching its emotional climax. Here we saw Jamie Fraser (portrayed by Sam Heughan) bidding a heartfelt adieu to his clandestine progeny, William Ransom (played by Clark Butler), as he departed Helwater for good.

As Jamie was seen shedding tears while departing on horseback, an evocative rendition of Bob Dylan's A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall by Walk Off the Earth resonated in the background.

A Reddit user couldn't help but share their discovery that the Dylan song mirrored a question-and-answer style derived from the English ballad 'Lord Randall. '.
The Redditor explained: "Now, the Dylan version doesn't mention the name Randall at all - which means you'd only spot the connection if you already knew the ballad, or looked up the origins of the song, like I did. That's what makes this such a hidden gem of an Easter Egg!"
They went on to theorise about the intentionality behind the choice of song during a moment when the surname Randall (belonging to Frank, Black Jack AND Claire) is significantly prominent throughout the series: "The use of that specific song, at that specific moment, in a show where the name Randall (Frank, Black Jack AND Claire) is so thematically central? There's just no way that's accidental [sic]."
Furthermore, the Redditor under the handle Pungiaan pointed out that the song speaks of a "blue-eyed son", which could be an implicit reference to Jamie's son William and his piercing blue eyes.

Lyrics mentioning a man "wounded in love" and another "wounded with hatred" were highlighted by the user as potential subtle hints towards the characters of Jamie and the notorious Captain 'Black Jack' Randall, portrayed by Tobias Menzies.
They concluded: "I'm honestly in awe of how layered this is. It's the kind of detail you'd only catch if you dig a little - but once you do, it hits you like a brick."

A second user commented underneath: "These types of Easter Eggs are scattered throughout every season. Also, I'm now going to have to listen to both versions."
A third person said: "Thanks for calling attention to this detail and now it makes me want to find Easter eggs too. I appreciate your thoughtful analysis."
Someone else expressed their amazement with "Thank you! Mind officially blown" while another enthused: "Omg, this is wonderful! I would've never noticed it unless someone pointed it out, and you did it amazingly! Thank you, I love this! [sic]."

Citing writer Toni Graphia from the Making of Outlander book, an additional user shared a quote: "Before I even started writing 'Of Lost Things,' I had the Bob Dylan song in my head because, to me, the song is about fatherhood, whether it's about individual fatherhood or fatherhood of a country. So I played it on a loop when I was writing."
Despite choosing Walk Off the Earth's version over Bob Dylan's original due to cost, Graphia found that it deeply resonated, saying: "When I heard that one, I knew that was the one, because it's a duo of a male and female singing the two parts, and I thought, Ah, that's Claire and Jamie. That's the male and female perspectives that we kept cutting to in the show.
"I wrote it for the montage at the end because I thought, Everybody's losing something. Claire is losing hope to find Jamie. Jamie's losing his son. Roger's losing Brianna."

EastEnders' Jamie Borthwick 'suspended' after using offensive term in video

The TV star has reportedly been suspended from the BBC soap after he used a derogatory term to describe disabled people in a video. EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick has expressed his deepest apologies for uttering a derogatory term about disabled individuals and, according to reports, he has been suspended from the BBC series. The development emerges half a year after he featured on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, during which the incident reportedly occurred. ‌ The 30-year-old, who has portrayed Jay Brown in EastEnders since 2006, is allegedly on leave from the show following the emergence of a video in which he used insensitive language, apparently shared among friends. ‌ Borthwick is said to have been captured on film using a pejorative word referring to people in Blackpool whilst the BBC programme was recording a special live episode at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The term in question is considered a slur offensive to disabled people. His remarks have drawn criticism from disability charity Scope and a Blackpool councillor. Reports suggest that footage exists of Jamie saying the word before forwarding it to a friend. Sharing an apology in The Sun on Sunday, Jamie said: "I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly," reports the Mirror. ‌ "I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. "Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did. It was wrong." ‌ He then apologised to the people of Blackpool and stressed his regret concerning his earlier remarks. The celebrity's representative has been sought for comment. Adding on to this, The Sun alleges that Jamie has been given marching orders from EastEnders. ‌ A spokesperson for the BBC told The Mirror: "This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. We have robust processes in place for this." Jamie was partnered with pro dancer Michelle Tsiakkas on Strictly. He was somewhat caught up in controversy involving Wynne Evans, 53, known from Go Compare ads, who faced backlash after a gesture towards his dance partner Katya Jones on the show. Although Wynne defended the act as humorous, further comments off-camera during the BBC programme and its live tour attracted more attention. ‌ The scandal brushed Jamie owing to his ties with Wynne when a misconstrued adult nickname reportedly led to confusion behind the scenes of Strictly Live. It's claimed Wynne reacted with "oh my god" upon hearing Jamie use an insensitive remark while on set of the BBC series. ‌ The incident reportedly occurred in November of the previous year while the BBC programme was filming at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Strictly has faced a challenging few years, grappling with one crisis after another. ‌ The 2023 series was marred by controversy as actress Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice withdrew from the competition amidst whispers of a behind-the-scenes conflict. The subsequent year, their dispute garnered months of media attention when the Sherlock actress accused the professional dancer of abusive conduct. Following an investigation by the BBC, Giovanni left the show. The 2025 series is expected to kick off in just two months' time. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Jamie Borthwick suspended from EastEnders after using disabled slur

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick has been suspended from the BBC soap, on which he plays Jay Brown, after being captured using a disabled slur. The 2024 Strictly Come Dancing star is believed to have made the offensive remark while in Blackpool last November. Jamie was recorded on a mobile phone on the set of Strictly as they filmed in the iconic Tower Ballroom. Describing the people of seaside town Blackpool, he used the term 'm********s', which was condemned by Blackpool Council's Tory group leader Paul Galley, who called it a 'shocking' and 'horrible' comment. Consequently, the BBC issued a statement to The Sun on Sunday: 'This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. As per the publication, Jamie, who joined EastEnders in 2006, has now been suspended from the BBC. Jamie also issued an apology, saying: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly. 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. 'It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. 'Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did. It was wrong.' He continued: 'When I made the video, I was excited and caught up in the moment. 'Again, that is no excuse. But my regrettable actions are not a true reflection of my views or who I am. 'I enjoyed every minute of my time in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and the town itself. 'The people of Blackpool have always been amazing with the Strictly crew, dancers, and cast members. 'I know they will be again for this year's show and those in years to come.' He concluded with: 'I am truly sorry.' The footage he refers to also featured Wynne Evans, with the pair having been informed they had been selected for the nationwide Strictly Live Tour. 'Blackpool, by the way. Absolute m********s,' Jamie is thought to have said at the time. After Jamie used the slur, The Sun's video has Wynne saying, 'Oh my God.' It also attracted backlash from disability campaigners and residents of Blackpool. Warren Kirwan, Media Manager at disability equality charity Scope, said: 'Attitudes and language like this are never acceptable. 'It's not just ignorant and hurtful to disabled people; it has wider consequences. 'Negative attitudes hold disabled people back in all areas of life, from getting a job to shopping on the high street. 'Mr Borthwick needs to reflect on what he said, educate himself, and do better. 'We hope he takes the opportunity to get to know the reality of disabled people's lives.' This is not the first time Jamie has been caught up in a Strictly-related controversy. In April, he and Wynne made headlines after a video emerged of them larking around with a sex toy backstage at the tour in Birmingham, which saw them chastised by bosses. This happened prior to opera singer Wynne being removed from the tour in January due to inappropriate behaviour. He was accused of making sexual comments around colleagues, for which he apologised. The GoCompare frontman was also filmed making a 'spit-roast' jibe during a photo session, which was believed to have referred to host Janette Manrara. More Trending Defending himself last month in his first interview since the drama began, Wynne insisted that he was actually addressing Jamie, whom they called 'spit-roast boy' among the cast, 'because he could contort his legs over his head like a spit-roast chicken.' 'I would be the first to apologise if I had used it in the double meaning of that word,' he told The Sun. However, in the latest development, Wynne was informed that his BBC Radio Wales contract would not be renewed after an investigation, which he said 'breaks [his] heart'. The shock news comes six months after he was competing on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing - which is when the incident is said to have taken place. The 30-year-old actor has appeared on EastEnders since 2006 in which he plays Jay Brown. However, it is stated he is on suspension from the soap following the revelation he used offensive language in a video that was allegedly shared with friends. ‌ It has been reported the star was recorded using a derogatory word to describe locals in Blackpool - where the BBC show filmed a glitzy live episode from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The word he used is a derogatory term regarded as a disabled slur. ‌ The star has sparked condemnation from the disability charity Scope and a local politician in Blackpool. It is reported footage was made of Jamie using the word which was then send to one of his friends. He has issued a groveling apology which has been shared by The Sun on Sunday, stating: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly. 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. 'Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did. It was wrong." He went on to issue an apology to the people of Blackpool and reiterate his regret over his words. The Mirror has contacted a representative of the star for comment. Meanwhile, The Sun claims that he has been suspended from EastEnders. When asked for comment, a BBC spokesperson told The Mirror: "This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. We have robust processes in place for this.' ‌ Last year, Jamie appeared on Strictly where he was paired with professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas. They featured alongside Go Compare opera singer Wynne Evans, 53, who sparked scandal when he ran his hands over his dance partner Katya Jones. While he and Katya dismissed the move as a joke, Wynne drew further scrutiny over comments that he made behind the scenes of the BBC show and accompanying live tour. Jamie was grazed by the scandal due to his close friendship with Wynne - while it was suggested an adult nickname he had for the soap star had led to a misunderstanding behind the scenes of Strictly Live. Wynne has been tied into the new scandal, as he reportedly reacted to Jamie using the disabled slur to exclaim "Oh my god" while they were together on the set of the BBC show. ‌ The incident is believed to have happened in November last year while the BBC show was recording from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. It has been a difficult past few years for Strictly as it has lurched from one crisis to another. The 2023 season was under a cloud as actress Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice dropped out of the contest amid rumours of a backstage clash. The following year, their disagreement drew months of headlines as the Sherlock star accused the dancer of abusive behaviour. The BBC conducted an investigation and Giovanni quit the show. The 2025 season is tipped to get underway in just two months time.
