Dramatic scenes as driver plunges Jeep into river during tense stand-off with cops
Shocking footage has captured the moment a man drove his Jeep off the side of a jetty after allegedly robbing a female driver and ramming a police car.
Western Australian Police will allege the 32-year-old drove a red Jeep Wrangler onto the Claremont Jetty in Perth about 10am on Wednesday.
The man's mother watched on as cops attempted to negotiate with the driver who repeatedly revved his car and yelled at officers and passersby, 9News reported.
Police allege the driver had earlier stolen something from a woman inside a car on Walter Street in Claremont while carrying a tyre iron.
Dozens of officers swarmed the jetty including negotiators, tactical response officers and a canine squad while a helicopter hovered overhead.
Police had blocked the exit of the jetty, prompting the man to allegedly ram his Jeep into their cars.
The stand-off came to a head when the man drove forward, sending his Jeep plunging into the Swan River.
Footage captured the man emerging from the half-sunken wreck and standing on the upturned Jeep as cops swarmed onto the jetty.
The driver was lifted from the water by tactical response officers before being admitted to hospital under police guard
He made a desperate attempt to escape and dove back into the water.
The man was detained moments later and seen being carried down the jetty by tactical response officers.
He was admitted to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital under police guard.
A North Metropolitan Health Service spokesman confirmed he has since been discharged.
Police charged the 32-year-old with one count each of armed robbery and criminal damage or destruction of property.
He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Banned driver jailed after high-speed pursuit through Bangor
Raymond Williams, 29, of Tan y Bryn Road, appeared before Caernarfon Magistrates Court on June 3, charged with offences including driving dangerously and without due care and attention, while disqualified and uninsured, failing to stop, and non-compliance with a red light. Just before 5pm on January 12, a police officer was on mobile patrol on Garth Road, Bangor when his attention was drawn to a vehicle travelling at speed along Glynne Road. The officer followed the vehicle – a silver Alfa Romeo - onto Sackville Road when an attempt was made to stop the driver. Williams continued to drive, increasing in speed travelling onto High Street. He drove through a red light at the junction of Farrar Road and continued at speeds in excess of 60mph, overtaking several vehicles on Caernarfon Road before negotiating the Tesco roundabout the wrong way. Then, he entered onto the A4086 travelling contra before crossing the central carriageway up the eastbound on-slip onto the A55. Williams then attempted to turn right at the top of the on slip to travel westbound on the eastbound carriageway of the A55 and the officer took evasive action and made tactical contact with the vehicle to bring it to a stop. He pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced to a year's imprisonment, and a driving ban for five years and three months. PC Robert Williams, of North Wales Police's Roads Crime Unit, said: 'Williams' driving that evening was completely reckless and could have easily caused a serious, if not fatal incident. 'We know that disqualified and uninsured drivers like Williams pose a risk to other road users, both for causing serious collisions and in causing higher premiums for us all. 'We regularly carry out patrols and are determined to catch offenders, so we are pleased that a dangerous driver has been taken off the roads and is now paying the consequences by serving a custodial sentence.'

Man arrested after Katy Perry ambushed on stage in terrifying stage invasion
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The man who stormed the stage during Katy Perry's recent concert has now been arrested and charged with two offences. Since kicking off her Lifetimes world tour last month, the Firework singer has faced a string of viral moments, including for her 'cringe' dancing, confronting a fan and nearly plunging into a crowd. The 40-year-old was met with another unsettling moment after an over-eager fan took things a little too far and jumped on stage with her at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Footage made the rounds on social media on Monday, showing the shocking moment Johnson Wen – known online as Pyjama Man – crashed her rendition of 2008 hit, Hot N Cold, before being escorted off stage. According to 9News, he was arrested after the incident, and taken to Auburn Police Station. Wen was eventually charged with entering enclosed lands, as well as obstructing a person in the performance of their work or duty. After being granted conditional bail, he was issued with a six-month ban from entering the Sydney Olympic Park Precinct, and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on June 23. Speaking to the outlet after his bizarre antics, Wen claimed that he stormed the stage for fun, and detailed the moment that Perry 'freaked out' at his appearance. 'I said, 'Let me get on stage with you', then she freaked out because she realised I wasn't a performer,' he recalled. 'I was about to do like extra Fortnite moves but security got there too quick.' This isn't his first brush with the law, as he was already banned from the Olympic Park for crashing the Weeknd's concert, and also invaded arenas at the Olympics, the Women's World Cup and the Cricket World Cup final. However, Wen has vowed that he will no longer storm stages, adding: 'I'm planning to quit forever because you get in way too much trouble for it. 'Especially me, because I've done it so many times.' Perry is currently performing in Australia, where she has already played two shows in Sydney and one in Melbourne. On Monday night, a clip shared by Pop Crave showed the musician belting out her 2008 hit while holding a guitar. Things then took a turn when Wen appeared on stage, before running up to her and grabbing her shoulder, while excitedly jumping up and down. Visibly uncomfortable by the encounter, Perry spun away and told the confused crowd: 'Well, there's never going to be another show like this, so just enjoy it, Sydney.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Security were then seen trying to drag him off stage. Soon after, the Roar icon exclaimed to the audience: 'What the hell is going on?' Just a few days ago she also faced a near-miss after being suspended by a crane while singing. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video During her set, Perry soared over the mosh pit, but after the crane tilted unexpectedly, she was briefly left upside down. Realising her risk of plunging headfirst into the sea of people, she was heard exclaiming, 'Oh dear!' However, she continued with the song and waved to the arena to assure everyone she was fine. Last month, she also narrowly avoided a wardrobe malfunction at a Las Vegas show when her bra snapped. 'Oh, my bra's gonna come off,' she joked, dancing along while calling to her crew for help. More Trending 'Get my bra back on, Patrick,' she said before turning to the audience and joking: 'Sorry, guys, you didn't pay that much.' After massive demand for her shows Down Under, Perry added extra ones, and will now perform a total of 15 in Australia, where she'll be until the end of the month. She is set to bring her Lifetimes Tour to the UK later this year, playing concerts in Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, and London in October. Got a story?
