(Photo: Facebook/Triumph) A couple of Canadian rock bands will set the mood in Ice District ahead of Game 2 on Friday. The Glorious Sons and Triumph will play a free concert ahead of the Edmonton Oilers' second Stanley Cup final game against the Florida Panthers. Triumph, known for top-40 hit Hold On and the hockey-fan rallying favourite Lay it on the Line, will take to the stage for the first time since 2008 for a three-song performance, while Glorious Sons will headline with a full set. 'We're thrilled to bring Triumph to the Rogers Festival at the Final,' said Terrie Tweddle, chief brand and communications officer with Rogers. 'Together with The Glorious Sons we know Oilers fans will enjoy a fantastic show ahead of Game 2.' The Oilers secured the first win of the final series on Wednesday night during overtime. Puck drop on Friday is at 6 p.m. MT.

‘Keep the penalties on the ice, not in the streets': increased police presence downtown as Oilers head into Stanley Cup Finals

(CTV News Edmonton) There will be a heavy police presence in downtown Edmonton as the Oilers head into the Stanley Cup Finals Wednesday. The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is working in collaboration with the Oilers Entertainment Group and Edmonton Civic Events partners to ensure public safety as fans take to the Ice District to watch upcoming games. 'Don't be that fan — fighting, disorderly conduct and impaired driving will not be tolerated,' said a statement from EPS. 'Officers will be there to make sure everyone has a safe and memorable night.' There will be temporary road closures in effect at the end of all Oilers games. Vehicle traffic will be closed on 104 Avenue between 101 Street and 105 Street. 105 Avenue eastbound will be closed from 102 Street to 101 Street. Police say to expect significant traffic delays during home games.
