Man, Wearing Metal Chain, Sucked Into MRI Machine At New York Hospital
Authorities said this caused a 'medical episode', but they are yet to share details about the man's condition.
A 61-year-old man was seriously injured after being pulled into an MRI machine at a medical centre in Long Island, New York. The scary incident happened on Wednesday around 4:30 pm at Nassau Open MRI, located on Old Country Road in Westbury.
According to a report by NBC 4 New York, the man was wearing a metal chain around his neck when he entered the MRI room. At the time, a scan was already going on. The powerful magnet inside the MRI machine pulled the chain and dragged the man towards the scanner.
Authorities said this caused a 'medical episode", but they have not shared more details about his injuries or condition. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. It is still unclear whether the man was a patient or why he entered the MRI room during the scan.
Police responded to a 911 call from the facility. The case is now under investigation. Officials are trying to understand how such an accident happened and how it can be prevented in the future.
The incident has also raised many questions online. A social media user asked, 'In hospitals, the door to the MRI room is supposed to lock when the machine is on. Did he just walk in while someone else was being scanned?"
MRI machines use strong magnets to take images of the body. These magnets are always active, even when the machine is not scanning. This is why metal objects are banned from MRI rooms. Items like jewellery, belts, keys and phones can turn into dangerous projectiles if taken near the machine.
Authorities are now reviewing the safety protocols at the MRI centre. They are urging all medical staff and visitors to follow strict safety rules around these machines.

Taking to social media, the chief minister congratulated all the eligible candidates for GDMO posts. 'Heartfelt congratulations to all the newly recommended GDMO candidates. Wishing you great success as you embark on this noble journey, serving humanity with dedication and compassion. Your commitment to healthcare will make a difference," he wrote on Facebook. Mizorams proximity to Golden Triangle causing inflow of drugs: CM
Aizawl, Aug 13 (PTI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday said that the state's close proximity to the 'Golden Triangle', a region in southeast Asia infamous for drug manufacturing, is causing an inflow of drugs. The chief minister was addressing a state-level programme on 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' (Drugs Free India Campaign) here. More than 600 students from various schools and colleges took part in the event. He said drugs must be eradicated completely as they harm society. 'Mizoram's close geographical proximity to the 'Golden Triangle' is leading to frequent inflow of drugs into the state," he said. 'Golden Triangle' refers to a mountainous region in northeastern Myanmar, northwestern Thailand and northern Laos, infamous for drug manufacturing. Lalduhoma urged all to remain vigilant and united in the fight against drugs to ensure that the Mizo society remains protected from such harmful influences. He encouraged young people to abstain from using drugs and warned that even occasional use of them is the first step towards addiction. The 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' is currently being implemented in 372 districts across the country, including all the 11 districts of Mizoram. The campaign focuses primarily on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and preventing first-time users from starting.
