In the United Arab Emirates, three individuals have been sentenced to death and one to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of Israeli citizen Zvi Kogan.
According to Arab media, the victim, Zvi Kogan, ran a grocery store in Abu Dhabi. Kogan, an Israeli national of Moldovan-Jewish descent, was not only a businessman but also an active member of the Chabad Jewish community.
Kogan was abducted and murdered in November 2024, with four individuals arrested in connection with the crime. The primary suspects—28-year-old Olimpi Toherovich, 33-year-old Azizbek Kemilovich, and 28-year-old Mahmood Jan Abdulrahim—are all from Uzbekistan.
Based on confessions and solid evidence, the court sentenced three of the suspects to death and one to life imprisonment.
It's noteworthy that the UAE has re-established diplomatic relations with Israel, which has also led to growing business ties between the two countries.
Following Israel's ongoing aggression in Gaza since October 2023, there has been an increase in incidents targeting Israeli embassies and citizens globally.

US targets more ICC judges including over Israel

WASHINGTON: The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on four more International Criminal Court judges or prosecutors, including from allies France and Canada, in a new effort to hobble the tribunal particularly over actions against Israel. 'The Court is a national security threat that has been an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel,' Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement, using a term popular with President Donald Trump's supporters. Rubio said that the four people targeted from the tribunal based in The Hague had sought to investigate or prosecute nationals from the United States or Israel 'without the consent of either nation.' The four include Judge Nicolas Guillou of France, who is presiding over a case in which an arrest warrant was issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel urges ICC to drop arrest warrants against PM The case was brought forward by the State of Palestine, which is not recognized by Washington but, unlike Israel or the United States, has acceded to the statute that set up the tribunal in The Hague. Guillou, a veteran jurist, had worked for several years in the United States assisting the Justice Department with judicial cooperation during Barack Obama's presidency. Also targeted in the latest US sanctions was a Canadian judge, Kimberly Prost, who was involved in a case that authorized an investigation into alleged crimes committed during the war in Afghanistan, including by US forces. Under the sanctions, the United States will bar entry of the ICC judges to the United States and block any property they have in the world's largest economy – measures more often taken against US adversaries than individuals from close allies. Rubio also slapped sanctions on two deputy prosecutors – Nazhat Shameem Khan of Fiji and Mame Mandiaye Niang of Senegal. The State Department said the two were punished by the United States for supporting 'illegitimate ICC actions against Israel,' including by supporting the arrest warrants against Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. The Trump administration has roundly rejected the authority of the court, which is backed by almost all European democracies and was set up as a court of last resort when national systems do not allow for justice. Trump on Friday welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to Alaska even though Putin faces an ICC arrest warrant, a factor that has stopped him from traveling more widely since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine. Rubio slapped sanctions on four other ICC judges in June.

Gaza civil defence says Israeli attacks kill 18

GAZA CITY: Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli strikes and gunfire killed at least 18 Palestinians on Sunday, including seven people shot dead while waiting to collect food aid. Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that seven people were killed in an Israeli drone strike that hit a hospital courtyard in Gaza City, in the territory's north. Witnesses said the victims were members of a Hamas unit, which a source from the Palestinian militant group described as responsible for distributing aid and 'fighting thieves'. There was no comment from the Israeli military, which is preparing a broader offensive in Gaza City and has sent ground forces to the city's Zeitun neighbourhood in recent days.

17 Gazans killed in Israel strikes

Gaza's civil defence agency said at least 17 people were killed Thursday in Israeli strikes as the military intensified its bombardment of Gaza City. The dead included six civilians who had been waiting for humanitarian aid, said civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal. "The Israeli occupation forces are intensifying their raids in the Zeitun area" of Gaza City, he said. "For the fourth consecutive day, the area has been subject to a military operation, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries," said Bassal. "Since dawn today, we have received 28 calls from families and residents of this neighbourhood, some of whose children have been killed. "Many people cannot leave these areas due to artillery fire," the spokesperson added. Maram Kashko, a resident of Zeitun, said the strikes had increased over the past four days. "My nephew, his wife and their children were killed in a bombardment," he told AFP. An AFP videographer said their bodies were taken to Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City and buried shortly afterwards at the Sayyid Hashim cemetery.
