Texas Longhorns baseball projected to host regional in Austin

The Texas Longhorns baseball team may not be the No. 1 team in the nation anymore. But UT is still expected to host a regional when the NCAA Tournament cranks up in a couple of weeks.
Texas dropped to No. 3 in the most recent USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. But the Horns are still in line to play at home during the first phase of the tourney. There are 16 regionals to start the post season. The winners of each regional face off against another regional champion in eight super regionals. The eight winners head to Omaha for the College World Series.

USA TODAY Sports has projected the regional locations and participants. Texas is projected as a No. 1 seed and will host No. 2 seed UTSA, No. 3 seed Kansas and No. 4 seed Central Connecticut State. The Longhorns haven't faced any of the other three teams this season.
The NCAA Baseball Tournament has 64 teams, like basketball, that play four-team round robin tournaments in the regionals. The Super Regionals are a two-team best of three game series.
There are 13 SEC teams projected to make the postseason. Last year's runner up Texas A&M is forecast to miss the tournament altogether.
Texas has had a rough couple of weekends. The Horns were swept in Arkansas last weekend and dropped two of three to Florida in Austin that saw two-sport star Jonah Williams go viral for some odd antics and a players only meeting Sunday night.

Texas will finish the season with a series this weekend in Norman against the Oklahoma Sooners. Then it's off to the SEC tournament.

Mercury beat the Wings 93-80 to spoil Paige Bueckers' 35-point performance

PHOENIX (AP) — Satou Sabally had 20 points and 10 rebounds against her former team, Alyssa Thomas added 11 points and 10 assists, and the Phoenix Mercury beat the Dallas Wings 93-80 on Wednesday night to spoil Paige Bueckers' 35-point performance. Bueckers, who returned after missing four games due to concussion protocol and an illness, made her first six shots of the game and finished 13 of 19. She became the fourth rookie in Dallas history to score 30-plus points in a single game, with Arike Ogunbowale the last to do it in 2019. But the rest of the Wings combined to go 16 of 48 (33%) from the field. Kitija Laksa had 14 points and four 3-pointers for Phoenix (7-4). Kathryn Westbeld scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Lexi Held also finished with 11 points. DiJonai Carrington added 11 points and eight rebounds for Dallas (1-10). Ogunbowale was just 2-of-10 shooting for 10 points. Bueckers went 8 of 10 from the field in the first half, with three 3-pointers and three free throws, to score 22 of Dallas' 36 points. Her 35 points topped her previous career high of 21 for an entire game. Sabally scored 10 of her points in the third quarter as the Mercury led 67-57. ___ AP WNBA:
