In his speech, he asked managements of the institutes to keep a tab on kirana stores close to campuses as there have been instances of sale of ganja chocolates. 'If they come across such cases, they should inform the police who will take action,' he said.
In his speech, Revanth said Telangana has a reputation for its rich history of revolutionary activities, and hence the youth should be protected and the drug menace should be kept in check.

He cited the concerning situation in Punjab or Haryana, where drug menace is rampant.
'The people of Punjab are known for playing a dominant role in waging wars for our country. But today, it is known for drug menace and its human resources were weakened by making them addicted to drugs,' Revanth said.
Revanth urged the students to take inspiration from Tollywood actors Ram Charan Tej and Vijay Deverakonda, who were part of the event.
'I have watched Ram Charan grow up. I have known him since his school days. He brought pride to the country by winning an Oscar,' Revanth said.
TGANB (now EAGLE) director Sandeep Shandilya said the state's efficient machinery is doing its best to eliminate the drug menace. 'The bureau has some of the best facilities in India, which includes a hi-tech computer centre set up at a cost of 25 crore, and a narcotics testing lab.
There are 42 deaddiction centres too,' he said.
'We have 1.3 lakh NCC, 70,000 NSS volunteers, 22,000 prahari clubs in schools and 7500 anti-drug committees in colleges. So we have the machinery that is capable of ending the menace for good,' the director added.
DGP Jitender said conversations and discussions will go a long way in helping end drug consumption amongst the youth.

CM Revanth Reddy launches EAGLE to keep hawk's eye on drugs

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced the formation of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) to replace the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, stating that the new entity will intensify surveillance and enforcement against drug-related activities. Speaking at a programme to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at Shilpakala Vedika, Revanth said, 'Telangana has begun efforts to curb drugs and ganja. Even if one ganja plant is grown or drugs are brought into the state, EAGLE will monitor it. Be cautious.' He reiterated his aim of making Telangana a drug-free state, asserting that no drugs would be allowed to enter its borders. 'From Komaram Bheem to Chakali Ilamma, Doddi Komuraiah and Sarvai Papanna, many have inspired the people through various movements. Universities and colleges once served as platforms for the statehood struggle. Now, the state is facing a different challenge. We must ask ourselves if Telangana becoming a hub of ganja is a matter of self-respect or shame,' Revanth said. CM: No progress as long as drugs rule the roost The chief minister disclosed that soon after assuming office, he instructed officials to take strict action against drugs. Referring to India's performance at the Olympics, he said: 'A country with a population of 140 crore not winning a single gold medal, is that not an embarrassment? Can a country where drug use is widespread progress?' Revanth pointed out that states such as Punjab and Haryana were already facing severe drug-related challenges. 'Youth in those states have become addicted and families are suffering. Punjabis once led from the front in wars and the Freedom Movement, but the situation has changed,' he said.

Telangana: Teacher suspended and booked following classroom demo with cow's brain; police launch investigation

HYDERABAD: What began as a well-intended biology demonstration turned into a controversy in Telangana's Vikarabad district. A biology teacher at the zilla parishad high school (girls) in Yalal mandal was suspended and booked under the Telangana Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act after she brought an animal's brain into the classroom to teach students about brain anatomy. While the teacher claimed the brain was that of a sheep, several students insisted she had identified it as a cow's brain during the class. The incident occurred on June 24. Biology teacher Kasim Bi brought the brain to school in a tiffin box and used it during a standard 10 science class to demonstrate the structure and function of the human brain. Students said she placed the organ on a plate and claimed it was a cow's brain. She explained that it was a live example to help them understand a chapter on brain functioning. Following the inquiry, district education officer Renuka Devi suspended the teacher and submitted a detailed report to the district collector. The police investigation is on and authorities are working to determine the exact source and species of the brain used in the demonstration.

Telangana HC advocates resolve to boycott judge: Allege misconduct, imposition of heavy costs on lawyers; ‘we will meet CJI over grievances,' says association head

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court Advocates' Association on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution to boycott the court of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya (Court No 5), protesting the alleged misconduct towards members of the bar and alleged imposition of heavy costs on the members while dealing with cases. During a packed gathering at the HC, the association urged acting chief justice Sujoy Paul not to allocate any judicial duties to Justice Bhattacharya and appealed to the President of India and the Chief Justice of India for her immediate transfer from the Telangana high court. Several members of the bar, including seniors, shared their experiences in Justice Bhattacharya's court. The association, during a general body meeting, decided to boycott Justice Bhattacharya's court starting from Monday, said association president A Jagan. "The resolution will be in force until suitable action is taken against her. We will soon meet the CJI and present our grievance," added Jagan. Senior counsel P Prabhakar Reddy also claimed that in a criminal appeal seeking bail, Justice Bhattacharya imposed costs on him when he filed a petition to set aside an order directing the registry to assign a legal aid counsel in his case. "In this case, the bail application was heard more than 35 times," he claimed. Another senior counsel, Chikkudu Prabhakar, said that the judge was not giving an opportunity to the advocates even to argue their case and was passing remarks that the advocates were not prepared to argue and adjourning the matter.
