World's oldest woman shares her recipe to living 115 years of life
For Ethel Caterham, the trick to a long life — and in her case, it really has been — is not to argue.
Caterham, who is 115, became the world's oldest living person, according to the Gerontology Research Group, after Sister Inah Canabarro, a Brazilian nun and teacher, died on Wednesday at the tender age of 116.
'Never arguing with anyone, I listen and I do what I like,' she said from her nursing home in Surrey, southwest of London, on the secret to her longevity.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1909, in the village of Shipton Bellinger in the south of England, five years before the outbreak of World War I.
She was the second youngest of eight siblings.

In 1927, at the age of 18, Caterham embarked on a journey to India, working as a nanny for a British family, where she stayed for three years before returning to England, according to the GRG.
She met her husband Norman, who was a major in the British army, at a dinner party in 1931, and they were stationed in Hong Kong and Gibraltar, the GRG said.
They had two daughters whom they raised in the U.K. Norman died in 1976.

Hallmark Lakeview Luxury Care Home in Camberley, where Caterham is a resident, posted pictures of her cutting a cake and wearing a '115' tiara in a Facebook post on Thursday.
'Huge congratulations to Lakeview resident Ethel, on becoming the oldest person in the world! What an incredible milestone and a true testament to a life well-lived,' it said in an accompanying statement. 'Your strength, spirit, and wisdom are an inspiration to us all. Here's to celebrating your remarkable journey!'
The title of the oldest person ever is held by French woman Jeanne Calment, who lived to 122 years 164 days, according to Guinness World Records.

Southern Tier resident seeks answers in Chautauqua County cold case
CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVB) — Questions are being raised about the possibility of an accused murderer being responsible a cold case from 1978 that took place in Chautauqua County. There are over 20 unsolved cases in Chautauqua County involving women who have gone missing or were murdered. 'There's a lot of work to be done, a lot of files to be read,' said Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone. 'It's slower than we would like it to be, but it is important for us to give the loved ones of these victims — offer them some hope, not giving them false hope, but let them know that they're not forgotten and that we're seeking justice.' Southern Tier resident DJ Abram is making it his mission to figure out what happened in one of those cases that occurred almost 50 years ago. Abram helps run the Facebook page 'Who Killed Beth Ann Patterson Brown?' Brown was murdered in 1978 in Brocton, N.Y., after leaving a popular town bar. Abram said the community deserves answers, not only for this cold case, but for the other cases in the county. 'There's somebody walking around who's responsible for this and it's heartbreaking for the families,' he said. Police have not confirmed to WIVB News 4 if they're looking into whether accused killer Richard Fox has any connection to Brown's case. Abram said Fox did grow up in the area where Brown's murder happened. Fox is accused of murdering two Buffalo women whose bodies were found in 2021 near the Chautauqua County Rails to Trails bike path. He's also a person of interest in a case in Niagara Falls, where police discovered human remains in a basement in the Falls. 'He was around 14, 15 at the time. Being that this happened in the middle of the night, being near a bar, I can't imagine a 14, 15-year-old would be hanging around a bar,' Abram said. 'It was a very brutal murder. Is it possible? It certainly is possible, but it doesn't seem likely in my mind.' Last year, Congressman Nick Langworthy helped secure $100,000 in federal funding to help Chautauqua County crack these cold cases. 'I was honored to secure $100,000 for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office as part of last year's appropriations process to support their Abducted, Missing, Murdered, and Unidentified Women's Initiative,' Langworthy said. 'This funding is about more than numbers — it's about justice, remembrance, and action. We owe it to the women who have vanished, to those whose lives were stolen, and to their families, to ensure their stories are not forgotten, their cases are fully investigated, and that every effort is made to deliver the answers and accountability they deserve. I salute Sheriff Quattrone for his vision in opening a cold case effort to bring just to these families and victims.' Guatemalan court orders arrests of Colombian officials who led a UN anti-corruption mission
GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — A Guatemalan court ordered Monday the arrests of Colombia's attorney general and a former Colombian defense minister who led a U.N. anti-corruption mission in Guatemala. Guatemalan prosecutor Rafael Curruchiche, who himself has been sanctioned by the United States and other countries for allegedly interfering in corruption investigations, had requested that an appeals court issue the arrest orders for Colombia's top prosecutor Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón, who was the chief of investigations of the Guatemala mission, and Iván Velásquez, who had led the mission and later was Colombia's defense minister. Curruchiche said Camargo and Velásquez had committed illicit association during their investigation into bribes paid to Guatemalan officials by Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht. Along with former Guatemalan prosecutors working with the U.N. mission, Velásquez and Camargo were part of 'a criminal structure led by the former CICIG commissioner,' using the Spanish initials of the U.N. mission, Curruchiche alleged. Curruchiche had long ago focused his investigation on an agreement the anti-corruption prosecutors had signed with Odebrecht that would offer reduced penalties in exchange for the company's cooperation in the investigation. His boss, Prosecutor General Consuelo Porras, has also been sanctioned by the U.S. and other governments for blocking corruption investigations. Last week, a U.N. expert warned her office was using criminal law to pursue enemies. Velásquez responded via X after learning of the accusations. 'So now the corrupt Guatemalan attorney general and her prosecutor Curruchiche – designated as corrupt and sanctioned by the United States and the European Union – extend their persecution for Luz Adriana Camargo and me,' Velásquez wrote. 'My solidarity with the former officials and so many Guatemalan citizens who the Attorney General's Office has forced into exile.' Camargo did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Among those former Guatemalan prosecutors forced into exile was Juan Francisco Sandoval, who led the special prosecutor's office against impunity. Sandoval, who led the Odebrecht investigation with support from the U.N. mission and has been living in exile in the United States, said last month in a statement that Curruchiche's investigation was 'a sham and a manipulation strategy.' The U.N. mission operated in Guatemala from 2007 to 2019, when then-President Jimmy Morales decided to not renew its mandate, after it linked members of his family to a case. 5.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Turkish Mediterranean coast, injuring 7 people
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Mediterranean coastal town of Marmaris on Tuesday, Turkey's disaster management agency said. At least seven people were injured while trying escape homes in panic. The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency said the earthquake was centered in the Mediterranean Sea and struck at 02:17 a.m. It was felt in neighboring regions, including in the Greek island of Rhodes, waking many from their sleep, Turkey's NTV television reported. Marmaris' governor, Idris Akbiyik, told the station that seven people were being treated for injuries after jumping from windows or balconies in panic but there was no immediate report of any serious damage. Turkey sits on top of major fault lines and earthquakes are frequent. In 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake killed more than 53,000 people in Turkey and destroyed or damaged hundreds of thousands of buildings in 11 southern and southeastern provinces. Another 6,000 people were killed in the northern parts of neighboring Syria.
