#SHOWBIZ: G-Dragon concert chaos: RM2.87mil scalping ring busted in Taiwan!
According to reports from China Times and Liberty Times yesterday, Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau apprehended four suspects, including a man identified as Liu, for their involvement in illegally reselling tickets to G-Dragon's world tour, which took place at the Taipei Arena from July 11 to 13.
A raid on the group's premises on July 15 uncovered substantial evidence: over 1,500 ticket serial codes, more than 1,000 physical tickets for the G-Dragon concerts, 500 BlackPink tickets for an upcoming October show in Kaohsiung, and NT$164,000 (RM23,557) in cash.
Liu reportedly collaborated with a Hong Kong-based ticketing engineer who utilised hacking tools and ID-generating software to purchase large quantities of tickets.
Liu allegedly paid a service fee of NT$2,000–3,000 (RM287–430) per ticket, which were then resold at grossly inflated prices.
Tickets originally priced at NT$800 (RM115) were resold for as much as NT$9,800 (RM1,407).
Even more shockingly, top-tier tickets, initially costing NT$8,980 (RM1,290), were flipped for an astonishing NT$55,000 (RM7,900).
The scalpers operated from a hotel located near the venue, where they created fake IDs and hired staff to help buyers circumvent ID checks at the concert.
Around 300 scalped tickets were reportedly used on July 11, leading to widespread outrage among fans and numerous complaints to the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs.
Consequently, some buyers were denied entry and are now seeking refunds.
This incident has reignited criticism of Taiwan's real-name ticketing system.
A similar scandal occurred in March 2023 during BlackPink's tour, where tickets originally priced at NT$8,800 (RM1,264) were scalped for an exorbitant NT$400,000 (RM57,455).
In response to such persistent abuses, Taiwan revised its Cultural and Creative Industries Development Act in 2023.
Under the updated legislation, scalpers now face significant fines of up to 50 times the resold ticket price.

Tibetan singer detained by China for Dalai Lama tribute song
DHARAMSALA: A Tibetan singer and activist has been detained by Chinese authorities, according to the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). The India-based exile government reported that Tzukte, known as Asang, was arrested in early July after performing a song honouring the Dalai Lama. The CTA, which operates as a government-in-exile without international recognition, condemned the arrest as part of China's 'broader campaign to suppress Tibetan voices, especially artists and writers.' China maintains strict control over Tibet, which it considers an inseparable part of its territory. Asang, a student of the well-known Tibetan singer Gebe, had previously drawn attention for publicly displaying the word 'Tibet' on his forehead in Sichuan province. The act gained online support but also increased official scrutiny. 'His detention, without charge or information on his whereabouts, violates international human rights norms and underscores China's ongoing assault on freedom of expression, cultural rights, and religious belief in Tibet,' the CTA stated. Chinese authorities have not commented on the arrest. Rights groups have long criticised Beijing's policies in Tibet, accusing it of erasing cultural and religious identity. – AFP

Security forces fired indiscriminately during Bangladesh protest: report
FILE PHOTO: Jamaat-e-Islami activists condemn the July 16 attack in Gopalganj on National Citizen Party leaders by supporters of the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during a protest in front of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Thursday, July 17, 2025. - AP DHAKA: Security forces fired indiscriminately during clashes involving supporters of ousted premier Sheikh Hasina this month, killing at least five people, human rights activists said Friday (July 25). The clashes erupted in Hasina's hometown of Gopalganj after members of her Awami League party tried to foil a rally by the National Citizens Party (NCP), made up of many students who spearheaded the uprising that toppled her government last year. The Bangladesh-based human rights group Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) said that it had "identified at least two gross violations of constitutional rights". "The law enforcement agencies fired at civilians indiscriminately, and the right to hold a peaceful assembly was not upheld," Abu Ahmed Faijul Kabir, senior coordinator at ASK, told AFP. Locals in Gopalganj told ASK that clashes erupted soon after NCP concluded its rally, with a crowd throwing bricks at the party members and security personnel. "Though some carried Molotov cocktails, they were not armed with firearms," ASK said. Those killed were not part of the demonstrations, the report quoted family members as saying. The organisation said the military declined to comment on its findings. The non-profit also said authorities had made "mass arrests during combing operations, including in areas that had not been involved in the clashes, including that of 18 children." Some of the children were imprisoned under the anti-terrorism law, the report added. The interim government under Muhammad Yunus has formed an inquiry commission to investigate the violence. - AFP

In a lengthy Facebook statement posted the day after the incident, the company made it crystal clear: this guy wasn't even their employee. 'The instructor involved was not wearing a uniform and is not an employee of our company,' the diving centre stated, adding that all their actual staff wear uniforms. They detailed how they immediately tried to defuse the situation by separating the groups onto different boats and scheduling their return times at different intervals to avoid further conflict. The company also revealed that when the instructor showed up at their shop the morning after the boat incident, the owner, described as over 60 years old and not fluent in Malay, immediately tried to get him to leave.
