All six franchises from the inaugural season returned — Washington Freedom, San Francisco Unicorns, Texas Super Kings, MI New York, Los Angeles Knight Riders and Seattle Orcas.
Matches were split between the 7,200-capacity Grand Prairie Stadium and the more intimate 3,500-seater Church Street Park.
Defending champions MI New York struggled to replicate last year's magic, just about edging into the playoffs thanks to a better net run rate than LA Knight Riders, after both teams ended the league stage with five points. Seattle Orcas finished at the bottom.
In the playoffs, Washington comfortably defeated San Francisco in Qualifier 1 to book a direct ticket to the final.

Seville storms past Lyles for Lausanne 100m win
Jamaica's Oblique Seville trumped Olympic champion Noah Lyles in the 100m at Wednesday's Diamond League meet in Lausanne, just three weeks away from the world championships in Tokyo. HT Image Once again, Lyles stuttered out of the blocks, a slow start handing Seville the advantage from the start, something the Jamaican then never looked in danger of ceding. Seville clocked an impressive 9.87 seconds in torrential rain at the Stade de la Pontaise, Lyles battling back in a strong finish to snatch second in 10.02sec. It was a repeat of last month's London Diamond League when Seville also got the better of the American. Kenya's Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi also suffered a setback as American Josh Hoey claimed victory in the 800m. Hoey, the reigning world indoor champion, held his own down the home straight for victory in 1:42.82. "I wanted to get out hard, let the leaders take the rain, and then make my move with 100 to go," said Hoey. "It felt like being a kid again, playing in the rain. I've never raced in anything like this before. It reminded me of cross-country growing up, where it comes down to being the toughest and the most patient." Wanyonyi looked out of it with 200m to run, but battled back for second in 1:43.29 ahead of Spain's Mohamed Attaoui and Briton Max Burgin, with Canadian world champion Marco Arop in fifth. But there was no such drama for Britain's Olympic women's 800m gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson, who continued her comeback with a meet record over the two-lap discipline in 1:55.69 ahead of Switzerland's Audrey Werro. "When the pace goes like that, you just forget about everyone else," said Hodgkinson, who returned to the track last week in Silesia after 12 months out with hamstring problems since winning at the Paris Games. "And it paid off with a solid performance. I couldn't have asked for a better start this season." Cordell Tinch continued his fine season form by clocking an impressive 12.98sec in the men's 110m hurdles. "I felt great through the warm-up, this is my kind of weather! This result feels great," said Tinch. lp-vg/mw

Washington is hoping to take a step forward in the Huskies' second Big Ten season
SEATTLE (AP) — Getting some strong quarterback play out of Demond Williams Jr. would go a long way as Washington looks to improve upon the 6-7 record it posted in its first Big Ten season. HT Image Williams, who appeared in 13 games for the Huskies as a freshman and completed over 78% of his passes, drew praise from first-year offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty at the beginning of fall practice, not just for his passing abilities, but also his attention to detail. 'Demond only had one interception on over 100 attempts,' Dougherty told reporters in July. 'If we can keep that ratio going, we're going to do a lot of good things in the passing game.' During head coach Jedd Fisch's first year at the helm, Washington did a solid job airing it out even before Williams took over for the final two games of the season. The Huskies ranked 32nd among FBS teams in passing yards per game (261.7), but struggled to consistently establish a run game. Washington running backs combined for 128.8 yards per contest, good for 100th in the country, though Jonah Coleman was a steady contributor by rushing for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns. With Williams and Coleman back in Seattle, as well as wide receiver Denzel Boston, who had 63 catches for 834 receiving yards in 2024, the Huskies have a trio of offensive weapons that can stack up with plenty of others in the conference. But, as Fisch noted, competition will be stiff in a conference that produced four College Football Playoff teams a year ago. 'We have a really, really good conference with really, really good coaches,' Fisch said. 'We have really good teams. We have a lot of big-name programs that have spent years and years building up rosters, coaching staffs, facilities, fan base, etc., to be able to prepare themselves to play in the Big Ten.' The Huskies will be hard-pressed to do much better in the secondary than they did in 2024, when they ranked second in the country with the fewest passing yards allowed per game. Washington returns cornerback Ephesians Prysock and has added fellow 6-foot-4 cornerback Tacario Davis to the mix. 'Obviously having 6-4 corners is something that not a lot of NFL teams can say,' first-year defensive coordinator Ryan Walters said. 'So, it allows you to be aggressive at the line of scrimmage. And, hopefully, those guys can make it hard for those guys on the outside.' While Boston returning for a fourth season bodes well for the Huskies' passing game, questions persist about who will most frequently line up at slot receiver. Following Washington's final open practice of fall camp, Fisch sang the praises of freshman Braiden Vines-Bright, as well as Kevin Green Jr., who missed last year due to injury, and Penn State transfer Omari Evans. From Fisch's perspective, it's an ongoing competition between John Mills and Paki Finau to see who will start at left guard for Washington in 2025. Finau, a redshirt freshman, and Mills, a freshman, don't bring much experience to the table, but both were highly regarded recruits. 'Those two guys continue to battle it out,' Fisch said. '...I would expect alternating in some regard. But, really good job by Mills stepping in as a true freshman, and Paki keeps getting better.' The Huskies open at home against Colorado State on Aug. 30 and visit rival Washington State on Sept. 20. Washington's first conference game comes at Husky Stadium against Ohio State on Sept. 27. The Huskies' longest road trip is Oct. 4 at Maryland. Washington also travels to Michigan on Oct. 18 and Wisconsin on Nov. 8. The Huskies conclude their season at home against rival Oregon on Nov. 29. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here. AP college football: and

'Rather see men dance': Olympic legend Sharron Davies shocks NFL world after boldly backing male cheerleaders (Image Via Google) Sharron Davies, the British Olympic silver medalist and sports broadcaster, sparked strong reactions online after she publicly supported male cheerleaders in the National Football League. On Monday, August 18, 2025, Sharron Davies wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that she fully supports the Minnesota Vikings for adding Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn to their cheer squad. She said equality must go 'both ways' and praised the decision. Her comments quickly spread across social media and caused anger and debate among NFL fans and followers. Olympic medalist Sharron Davies says male cheerleaders deserve equal space in NFL In her first message on X, Sharron Davies said she is 'all for' male cheerleaders and pointed to the recent World Aquatics Championships as proof that sports should be open to everyone. She praised the Minnesota Vikings for making room for male dancers and wrote, 'Respect and opportunity to be as feminine or masculine as you want in safety.' Several fans agreed with her and reminded others that male cheerleaders have been part of American college sports for years. The Minnesota Vikings shared a detailed statement last week. The team said that all cheerleaders go through the same audition process and that Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn were selected because of their dance talent and passion for game-day performance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Woman sells ring given by ex, then jeweler tells her 'This can't be true' Daily Sport X Undo Also Read: 'I Love It': Emma Raducanu And Carlos Alcaraz Surprise Fans With US Open Mixed Doubles Debut And Stir Romance Rumors NFL supporters accuse Sharron Davies of changing her stance on gender in sports Even though some people supported Sharron Davies, many others strongly disagreed with her.
