GOF detains 17 undocumented Myanmar migrants in Kelantan, seize drugs worth RM153,000
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the 17, all from Myanmar, comprised nine women and eight men.
He said the operations also led to the seizure of 250g of dried cannabis, 3.2kg of cannabis buds, and a car used to transport the migrants, with the total value estimated at RM153,000.
"Two of the operations were conducted in Kota Baru, while the third took place in Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat.
"Eight of the 17 undocumented migrants were nabbed in an area near Pohon Tar, close to Pengkalan Kubor, on Monday.
During this operation, GOF personnel also seized the drugs and the car," he said.
He added that the remaining nine migrants were arrested in two separate operations at Kampung Kedai Buluh and Kampung Che Latiff on Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the migrants had entered Kelantan via several illegal jetties along the border.
"The 17 people, including a tekong darat (a local term for those who harbour or smuggle undocumented migrants), are being held for further investigation," he added.
