A young man has been rushed to hospital after he was shot while sitting inside a parked car in a horror late-night shooting in Sydney 's northwest.
The man in his 20s was shot on Hickeys Lane in Penrith, just before 10pm on Friday.
He was treated for a single gunshot wound at the scene before he was taken to hospital for his non-life threatening injuries.
Just minutes later, police and fire crews received reports of a car fire on Kindlebark Close in the nearby suburb of Claremont Meadows.
Fire crews extinguished the fire.
Two crime scenes have been established with specialist officers expected to comb both for clues on Saturday.
Police believe the fire and the shooting could be linked.
'While investigations into both incidents are in their infancy, one line of inquiry being examined is that both incidents are linked,' police said in a statement.

A woman has been charged over an alleged hit and run that left a man fighting for life in Sydney 's south-west. The man, aged in his 30s, was crossing Hoxton Road in Cartwright when he was struck by a car at 2.30am on Saturday. He was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. Police will allege the driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old woman, did not stop after the crash. However, she returned to the scene on foot and spoke to officers, who then arrested her. Mystery over alleged teen killer's activities at a café just minutes before he was arrested over the alleged murder of Universal Store CEO - as cops scour the business for clues
Bizarre footage has emerged of a teenager at a local café, shortly after he allegedly stabbed Universal Store CEO Greg Josephson to death during a house party at the millionaire's sprawling Brisbane home. A 15-year-old boy has been charged with one count of murder after Mr Josephson was found critically injured at the gathering attended by 30 teenagers on Thursday. Officers arrived at the six-bedroom 1930s Art Deco mansion in Clayfield, in Brisbane 's inner north, just after 8.15pm and found the CEO unresponsive upstairs. Police allege an altercation took place between the teenager and the father-of-three, who are believed to be known to each other. A household item was used in the alleged attack. Winter holidays run from June 28 to July 13 in Queensland, with private schools usually breaking up a few days earlier. CCTV footage from a café near Mr Josephson's mansion showed the alleged killer walking across a patio area while wringing his hands. The teen is understood to have sustained a hand injury in the alleged attack, the Courier Mail reports. He appeared smartly dressed in a button-up shirt and pants as he proceeded to squeeze his way into a narrow rubbish area at the back of the venue. He then appeared to create a barricade by moving several bins in front of him. Police arrested the 15-year-old about 8.15pm after he called triple zero. He was refused police bail and has been taken to hospital. The café has since remained a place of interest, with officers and a dog squad reportedly seen searching the area on Friday afternoon. For almost two decades, Mr Josephson was the director of the Brisbane-based Universal Store, which he established with his brother Michael in 1999. From one store in Carindale, the company has grown to 80 outlets in every state and territory of Australia, as a leader in youth and streetwear fashion with an annual revenue of more than $288million. The Josephson brothers sold the business for $100million in September 2018 to private equity investors Five V Capital, Catalyst Direct Capital Management and BBRC Worldwide, which had previously invested in Bras N Things. Universal Store Holdings was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in November 2020 and the brand has continued to grow since the Josephson brothers relinquished control almost seven years ago. Mr Josephson and his wife Tamra bought the Clayfield home for $1.91million in 2016. The couple embarked on a major renovation, with Mr Josephson explaining at the time how they had planned to 'create a huge garage with a tennis court above it'. 'We were looking for a big family home and this was in very original condition,' he told the Courier Mail earlier this month. The sprawling Oriel Road property had been on the market for just 43 days when Mr Josephson was allegedly murdered.

Gwent Police launch new team to tackle anti-social behaviour
Gwent Police's Community Action Team began patrols from Cwmbran police station on Monday, June 9, targeting hotspot areas across Blaenau Gwent, Newport, Torfaen, and Caerphilly with a focus on visible policing and community safety. Inspector Laura Paget said: "Neighbourhood policing is all about being proactive, solving local problems, and making sure we're at the very heart of, and engaging with, the communities we serve. "Whether it's investigating the use of off-road vehicles in Alway or tackling ASB in Cwmbran, over the next four months officers will be working in the areas we've identified as being affected most by ASB and acquisitive vehicle crime." The team includes 10 PCSOs, 16 PCs, two sergeants, and is led by Inspector Paget. Since launching, the team has made more than 20 arrests for offences including drug supply, road offences, possession of weapons, and violent crime. They have also seized 21 vehicles connected to anti-social off-road driving or traffic offences. Inspector Paget said: "The public have the right to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, and we've all got a shared commitment to increasing safety, trust in our services, and building strong relationships with the public. "The teams will also continue our work with community safety partnerships in each local authority area to build on the good work already taking place to make our neighbourhoods safer." Funding for additional resources in the Caerphilly area is being provided by Caerphilly County Borough Council, with a focus on improving safety in town centres. Cllr Sean Morgan, leader of the council, said: "We very much welcome the launch of this new initiative. "It enables council services and police services to be more closely aligned and provides additional reassurance to our residents. "CCBC is in a unique position thanks to our financial support to the new team, which demonstrates our continuing commitment to target crime and anti-social behaviour by working in close partnership with Gwent Police. "I look forward to seeing the benefits of this collaborative approach going forward." Blackwood will be the first town in the county borough to benefit from the new policing model. Jane Mudd, police and crime commissioner for Gwent, said: "Chief Constable Mark Hobrough and I are united in our commitment to increase visible policing in our communities. "This is what our residents have told us they want and that is why it forms a key part of my Police, Crime and Justice Plan. "The Community Action Team will provide the Chief Constable with the extra resilience to put more officers on the ground in the areas that need them most, and I look forward to seeing the results of this work in the coming weeks."
