Pitch perfect: Himachal player's nat'l cricket dreams take flight
The event is to be held from August 7 to 9, 2025, at the Amma Cricket Ground in Melmaruvathur, Chennai.
What makes Amit's selection particularly remarkable is that he is the only player from HP in the tournament and plays with 85% physical disability.
Amit's story is one of courage and hope in the face of monumental odds. In 2018, he visited a private university where he happened to see a wheelchair cricket match. The episode gave a new direction to his life.
Despite being confined to a wheelchair since childhood, he loved cricket—but he thought that the pitch was lost to him forever.
"Seeing players on the field reignited that childhood dream in me. Inspired and motivated, I returned to HP with a mission to form a wheelchair cricket team in a state where no such initiative existed," he said.
He began reaching out to players from various cities of HP, including Una, Kangra, Chamba, Nalagarh, and others.

His efforts culminated with Himachal's first wheelchair cricket match held in Chandigarh in 2018. Since then, he has consistently conducted training camps at Anu Ground, Hamirpur, mentoring and encouraging new players. In the wake of his efforts, the Himachal Pradesh Wheelchair Cricket Team has emerged as a competitive unit in national-level tournaments, with Amit leading the team as captain in two national events.
Besides cricket, he likes bowling, and his skills with the ball have earned him a spot in the prestigious India-B squad.
A govt primary teacher in Chauri educational block, Amit cherishes the unconditional support offered by his parents, younger brother, and sister.
For all his achievements, he is not about to rest on his laurels. His aim is to bring the HP Wheelchair Cricket Association under the official jurisdiction of the HP Cricket Association, seeking better recognition and infrastructure for future players.
He is also determined to establish the state's first women's wheelchair cricket team, aiming to create equal opportunities for disabled women in sports.
About the ensuing event, he said that it was being organised by the Tamil Nadu Wheelchair Cricket Association. The series will feature three elite teams—India-A, India-B, and India-C.

'Not Young But Gun Team': Gautam Gambhir's Message Revealed After Win In 5th Test Against England
Indian cricket team skipper Shubman Gill revealed the fiery message from head coach Gautam Gambhir that motivated them during the Test series against England. It was a stunning show from the visitors as Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were the top performers as India registered a six-run win to level the five-match Test series 2-2. With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing their Test retirements and Jasprit Bumrah missing the Test due to workload management, it was a young team under a new captain that achieved a massive feat in England. Gill said that Gambhir wanted them to not think of themselves as a 'young team' but a 'gun team' that is capable of pulling off these kind of significant results. "We had the option of taking the new ball, but the way they were bowling, we thought they could do the job. We had wicket-taking options. We wanted them to score 30 singles; we knew they were under pressure. We wanted to take the game deep. The way Brook and Root were going, not many teams in the world would have been given a chance," Gill told reporters after victory. "Thinking about other players put less pressure on me because I was focused on everyone, not just myself. That helped. Gautam Gambhir told us not to think of ourselves as a young team, but as a gun team," he added. Following his side's series draw against England, Indian skipper Shubman Gill hailed pacer Mohammed Siraj, the leading wicket-taker of the series, calling him a "captain's dream." Siraj's inspirational spell during the fifth and final Test was perhaps the biggest reason why Team India left the England shores with their heads held high and the series scoreline. He took a total of 23 wickets in the series at an average of 32.43, with best figures of 6/70. In the final Test, he took a total of nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. While defending 374, India was in trouble with England at 301/3 at one point, but along with Prasidh Krishna, Siraj bowled relentlessly, pulling back the match ball-by-ball, wicket-by-wicket. Speaking during the post-match presentation, Gill said, "He (Siraj) is a captain's dream. Coming in five Test matches, every ball, every spell that he bowled gave his all, and every captain, every team wants a player like him. We are very fortunate to have him in that team."

BCCI Vice-President's Huge Remark On Shubman Gill-Led India Test Team: "Our Players Have..."
With India registering a spectacular victory in the final Test against England and levelling series 2-2, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla hailed the team's performance and said the future of Indian Test cricket looks bright. The 'Shubman Gill era' era started with immense promise and fighting spirit as relentless spells from Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj denied England a series win in Oval, leaving them six runs short of a 374-run chase. "It is certainly a spectacular victory. Although the series is tied at 2-2, Indians feel like we have won because our players have performed remarkably,' Shukla told ANI. "People have taken a keen interest in this Test series, whether watching in the stadiums or on their TV sets. This series brought the Test series to it (Washington) Sundar's century, KL's (Rahul) consistency, the performance of our new bowlers. (Mohammed) Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep and (Jasprit) Bumrah have done exceptionally well. The way Rishabh Pant showed spirit and played after getting injured is incredible. Our team did well against an experienced team. Dhruv Jurel was brilliant as a wicketkeeper. New players and characters have emerged out of this series, and the future of our Test team looks bright," he added. After England opted to bowl first, they reduced India to 153/6. A 58-run partnership between Karun Nair (57 in 109 balls, with eight fours) and Washington Sundar (26 in 55 balls, with three fours) was the most meaningful part of the inning as India was bundled out for 224 runs. Apart from Gus Atkinson's five-wicket haul, Josh Tongue (3/57) was also good. In the second innings, four-fers from Siraj (4/86) and Prasidh Krishna (4/62) reduced England to 247, despite a 92-run opening stand between Zak Crawley (64 in 57 balls, with 14 fours) and Ben Duckett (43 in 38 balls, with five fours and two sixes) and a fifty by Harry Brook (53 in 64 balls, with five fours and a six). They led by 23 runs. In India's second innings, key contributions came from Yashasvi Jaiswal (118 in 164 balls, with 14 fours and two sixes), Akash Deep (66 in 94 balls, with 12 fours), Ravindra Jadeja (53 in 77 balls, with five fours) and Washington Sundar (53 in 46 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes). Sundar stitched a very crucial 10th wicket stand with Krishna, with the latter scoring nothing out of it and Sundar doing all the hitting. They all took India to 396 runs, giving them a 373-run lead and setting a target of 374 runs for England to win the series. India started well, reducing England to 106/3. However, fine centuries from Harry Brook (111 in 98 balls, with 14 fours and two sixes) and Joe Root (105 in 152 balls, with 12 fours) troubled India with a 195-run stand for the fourth wicket. At one point, England was 317/4 on day four. However, a late surge by Siraj (5/104) and Krishna (4/126) shifted the pressure to England, and they were left six runs short, bundled out for 367 runs. The series is drawn 2-2, reflecting the true nature of how well-fought the series was. The Shubman Gill era has started with immense promise and fight, giving signs of a bright future.

This morning sums up what this team is all about: Shubman Gill
Agency: PTI Last Updated: London, Aug 4 (PTI) India, a team in transition, refused to give up every time they were pushed to the wall during the five-match Test series against England, including on a riveting final day at The Oval. That fighting spirit defines the team, said captain Shubman Gill on Monday. It was a massive series for Gill and his team following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, besides the absence senior player like Mohammed Shami. Even Jasprit Bumrah was not available for all games, forcing them to change the bowling combination in every game. On day four of the final Test here, India looked down and out with Harry Brook and Joe Root keeping England on course for a record chase but Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna brought the visitors back from the dead. Even on Monday morning, the odds were stacked against India but Gill and Co. managed to pull off a sensational victory to draw to series. 'What we did this morning, kind of summarises what this team is all about. 70 odd runs, 7 wickets in hand (on day four). The way Brook and Root were going, not many teams in the world would have given themselves a chance," said Gill. 'But this team believes that, whenever we have some kind of an opening, we can get through that opening. And that's what we were talking about once Brook was out, and then we got an early wicket of Bethell, that this is our opening, let's try to build pressure on them. 'But when you've got bowlers like Siraj, makes your job as a captain very easy. You're just standing out there, and you just want to appreciate their bowling," the Indian captain said after the famous win. There were ups and downs the whole series with both teams fighting tooth and nail. As the series went on, Gill grew as a batter and as captain. 'There are moments like these, where you feel the journey is worth it, the moment that we had in the morning. And there have been a lot of highs and lows, and that's kind of expected, especially with sports. 'Obviously, every game or every time you go into bat, you want to be able to perform, you want to be able to score a century. But unfortunately, that's not how the game or life works. You should be able to navigate through the highs and lows of life and try to stay balanced throughout. 'That's what at least I believe in, that I want to be able to stay balanced, whether we have won the match, lost the match, I've done well, or I've not done well," said Gill. With a staggering 754 runs, Gill led from the front in his debut series and silenced the critics who questioned his technique and record in SENA countries. He ended up with four hundreds, including a double. Asked how he evolved as a batter, Gill had plenty to say. 'Each 100 that I scored had a very different significance,. The one in Leeds was my first match. I was under a bit of pressure, not being able to perform especially in this format how I wanted to, so that 100 would always be special for me. And then the double hundred and the 100 in Birmingham, to be able to seal that match was also special. 'And the one in Manchester, to be able to save that game from there. Each of them has a story, and each of them means a lot to me," said the young skipper. Gill spoke about the rationale behind placing all the fielders in the deep on day five with England nine wickets down and Gus Atkinson batting with Chris Woakes, who came out despite a broken arm and was in no position to bat. 'We thought that we still have the wicket-taking options on this wicket. If they want to make runs, they will have to hit boundaries. But rather let them have 30 singles and score those 30 runs, rather than score 5-6 boundaries. 'We knew that there was a lot of pressure on them. Whichever team is in that position, so there is always more pressure on the batting team. Because it's a one-ball game. So we thought that the longer we take the game, the more probability of taking the wicket," Gill added.
