Katy Perry's Lifetimes tour will be fueled by espresso, 'California crunchy' diet, meditating
In USA TODAY's The Essentials, celebrities share what fuels their lives, whether it's at home, on set or on the road.
As she prepares to embark on her first world tour in seven years, Katy Perry needs to gather a few performance prep necessities before hitting the road.
"Actually, my rider isn't as crazy as some people think," the space-voyaging superstar says of the requests she makes when performing at a venue.
Perry's Lifetimes Tour kicks off in Mexico City on April 23, over a week after her historic Blue Origin space flight with an all-female crew that included Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez.
Before she goes on stage, Perry revealed in a recent sit-down with USA TODAY, her routine skews "California crunchy." But the night doesn't end after the "California Gurls" singer leaves the stage; as a self-professed "night owl," she also has some favorite post-concert activities that might surprise you.

From transcendental meditation to online shopping, these are the pop star's must-haves for touring.
Deep cuts, a changing 'special section': Katy Perry reveals what to expect on her new tour
Katy Perry's favorite tour snacks are 'California crunchy'
Perry's snack choices in her green room are "really California crunchy" and "very Santa Barbara," an ode to her hometown.
"It's literally, like, avocados, Himalayan salt for the avocados, Bragg apple cider vinegar, Siete chips with a little hint of lime, OK? (And) hummus," she says.
But Perry — whose tour will have her ping-ponging from North America to Oceania and back home over the next few months — is soliciting recommendations for local favorites, including breakfast burrito places.
"I go out into the world; we ride bikes to the venue, we seek out the local things that people love and we want all of those submissions. So please — especially if they're tailored for a 5 year old," she says. "Please tell me where the best breakfast burrito is."
Meditation is a must for performing — and parenting
Perry promises her concert will be like "Disneyland on wheels," but things behind the scenes will likely be a calm before the storm.
"We're pretty mellow backstage," she says. "We get to learn meditation before we go on tour, and I bring that transcendental meditation to everybody on tour if they want it. And then we do it at 6 p.m. before every show — and what a vibe it creates."
Meditation gives her "so much energy, it's wild," says Perry, who wrapped her high-energy "Play" Las Vegas residency in 2023. "We do the meditation and then we always do our circle and that's really the extent of it."
Meditation is not only for preparing for the stage but is also her secret "hack for mothering, too."
A new addition to tour life this time around is her 4½-year-old daughter with Orlando Bloom, Daisy Dove Bloom. Perry is "excited that I get to bring her around the world on my first world tour with her," but it'll also be an adjustment.
"Your sleep completely changes after you become a parent. And to get through that, I have meditated my way through being a mom," Perry says.
Katy Perry downs espresso before going on stage, online shops to wind down
Show prep might involve meditating and hanging out in yoga poses, like a lounging lizard, but it also means going from zero to 100 fast. Before she heads out on stage, Perry's routine involves a "double espresso at 8 o'clock," then it's curtains up.
"Look, it takes me a little while to wind down because I have to really rev up. And I'll find (the post-show routine) pretty unique because I am getting up earlier now being a mom," Perry says.
"But like anyone else, I'm adding to cart (online shopping). I am getting all the domestic stuff done. Checking in. I'm, like, on fire. That's my work time when everyone's asleep. I'm a night owl."

Michelle Obama reveals daughter Malia Obama's name change
Michelle Obama is breaking her silence on eldest daughter Malia Obama's decision to drop her last name. Malia Ann, who is pursuing a film career in Hollywood, used her middle name as her artistic name for the credits of short film "The Heart" which she wrote and directed, that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024. During a Wednesday, June 4, appearance on the "Sibling Revelry" podcast cohosted by Oliver and Kate Hudson, Obama addressed Malia's decision to ditch Obama after former President Barack Obama's second term. The Obamas also share University of Southern California alum Sasha Obama. Michelle Obama to publish new book 'The Look' this fall and 'reclaim' fashion story "Our daughters (Malia and Sasha) are 25 and 23. They are young adult women, but they definitely went through a period in their teen years where it was the push away. … They're still doing that," Obama told the Hudson siblings, noting that "you guys know this as the children of parents who are known." Michelle Obama says 'everyone' would know if she divorced Barack Obama: 'I'm not a martyr' The Hudsons are the children of actress Goldie Hawn and previously estranged dad, musician Bill Hudson, although they count Hawn's longterm partner Kurt Russell as a father figure. "It is very important for my kids to feel like they've earned what they are getting in the world, and they don't want people to assume that they don't work hard, that they're just naturally, just handed things," the "Becoming" author added. "They're very sensitive to that – they want to be their own people."On Malia's first project "she took off her last name, and we were like, they're still going to know it's you, Malia," Obama continued. "But we respected the fact that she's trying to make her way." Obama told the Hudson siblings, during the appearance alongside her own brother and "IMO" podcast co-host Craig Robinson, that "our daughters didn't want to be little princesses in the White House." "They wanted to push the envelope; they needed some rope. They wanted to try some things, they wanted to be out in the world, and I knew that under the circumstances, they needed more rope than I probably would've given them if I were my mom," Obama said. Gamers complain after receiving damaged Nintendo Switch 2 consoles from NY GameStop
Gamers complain after receiving damaged Nintendo Switch 2 consoles from NY GameStop A GameStop spokesperson told USA TODAY the damages were isolated to a single store in Staten Island, New York. Show Caption Hide Caption Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here with a new Mario Kart game The new Nintendo Switch is now available. It retails for $449.99, and is expected to sell out fast due to heavy pre-order volume and low retail stock. Some fans who got their hands on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 had their excitement deflated as multiple customers complained that their new console came out of the box damaged. Reports of this issue were shared across X and Reddit, mainly from consumers who said they bought the device from a GameStop in New York that had stapled receipts to the Nintendo Switch 2 packages and subsequently punctured the console screens. 'GameStop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box,' wrote X user Oadhan Lynch, sharing a series of pictures of the device after it had been opened. 'Genuinely insane now I'm gonna have to wait 3 months for the restock. And yes we were there for the midnight release so I bet everyone in this line is gonna have this same issue.' A GameStop spokesperson told USA TODAY: "These occurrences were isolated to a single store in Staten Island, NY. The affected customers − who represented a very small fraction − were swiftly given replacements." Lynch wrote in an updated X post on Thursday, June 5, that GameStop had "made things right" by providing replacements to those around New York and New Jersey who bought the damaged Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Nintendo working to ensure retailers have 'ample supply' of Switch 2 The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on Thursday, June 5, for $449.99, with bundles including the new "Mario Kart World" also available for $499. Fans waited in long lines across the country for a chance to buy the console, which is the successor of the uberly popular original Switch, the second-highest selling device in Nintendo's history, selling more than 152 million units, CNBC reported. The high demand for the console did lead to a shortage that Nintendo says should be temporary, according to CNBC. 'We've been working really closely with our retail partners to ensure there's ample supply for not only the launch weekend, but well beyond,' Nintendo President and COO Doug Bowser told CNBC at the midnight launch party for the product at Nintendo's store in New York's Rockefeller Center. What is Bop House on TikTok? Florida OnlyFans content creators make millions. What to know
A group of seven women who live in one Fort Lauderdale mansion are pulling in about $250 million a year by posting on OnlyFans and making lifestyle videos, to the tune of a collective 90 million people watching across social media platforms. They call themselves 'bops' and their content creation house the 'Bop House.' 'In a May 14 TikTok that's since racked up 4 million views, the house's residents dance in barely-there bodycon dresses in front of brightly lit signs spelling out 'BOPS,'' USA TODAY reported this week. 'They fly on private jets to the Super Bowl, own Porsches and Lamborghinis and rack up $4,000 dinner bills on a night out.' Here's what a 'bop' is, who lives in the Bop House and how much it costs to rent the waterfront home. Is it problematic? Online, young female OnlyFans stars make their lives look aspirational. A 'bop' is 'a term for a person who has had many sexual partners, or who presents themself online in a way that is thought of as immodest (such as posting pictures or video with revealing clothing),' according to Merriam-Webster's slang definition of the word. To some social media users, 'bop' also means 'baddie on point,' and to many TikTok users and creators, the slang word is nearly synonymous with 'sex worker.' The Bop House is 'your new favorite girls only influencer house,' according to the Bop House official TikTok account. The account is currently made up of seven women (at one point, eight women) who are all OnlyFans content creators and social media influencers. While their OnlyFans content is explicit and pornographic, their other social media accounts, like their shared TikTok account, focus on their general lifestyle and all the perks that come with making millions online. They've posted house tours of their ritzy Fort Lauderdale waterfront rental, participate in trending TikTok sounds and challenges and clear up drama surrounding their livelihoods and living situation. 'The name 'Bop House' nods to the Gen Z slang term 'bop,' meaning a woman who has had many sexual partners,' USA TODAY reported. 'Many of their videos poke fun at the term, and they respond to commenters saying they should 'get a real job.'' Alina Rose, one of the Bop House members, told USA TODAY that her critics partly inspired her to move into a house with other content creators. 'They're going to call us bops no matter what,' she told USA TODAY. So she decided to lean into it with like-minded women. And the venture has been profitable, helping the women find financial freedom. But it also comes with drawbacks, like the danger of glamorizing the adult content creating lifestyle to young girls who may be watching their videos. Sophie Rain, the 20-year-old who co-founded the Bop House in December 2024, told USA TODAY that she grew up in a big family that relied on food stamps and is now their primary breadwinner, earning $43 million in her first year. 'She paid off her parents' mortgage and $15,000 in property taxes and gifted her older brother his dream car, a BMW M2, with her salary,' USA TODAY reported. 'Rain considers herself a feminist, and hopes the Bop House will help de-stigmatize adult entertainment creators. Still, every now and then, she hesitates to press 'post' knowing how young girls might interpret her videos.' The residents of the Bop House have come and gone, at one point having eight members and now having seven. Sophie Rain founded the house with Aishah Sofey. Camilla Araujo, Alina Rose, Summer Iris, Ava Reyes and Julia Filippo also currently live in the house. They use the high-end home as the backdrop to their OnlyFans and social media content. The Bop House has changed locations a few times, due to the address being leaked and endangering the women that live there. One of the women's most recent houses is in an Intracoastal neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. According to the Broward County Property Appraiser, the Fort Lauderdale home is worth around $6 million. The women have also recently lived in a multi-million dollar home overlooking Biscayne Bay in Miami. Whichever home they're in now, it has a steep rent, at $75,000 a month – not as huge a sum as it seems when split between seven women who each make a few million a year. The content creators told USA TODAY that they make around $250 million a year collectively.
