Ed Sheeran posts throwback pictures with Taylor Swift for new single Old Phone
Ever looked through a phone you retired and got a blast from the past?
English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran did. And it was, as the 34-year-old said, 'such an emotional journey' that he even wrote a song for it titled, well, Old Phone.
In an Instagram post tagged @teddysoldphone on April 29, Sheeran uploaded never-before-seen pictures, texts and notes from the phone he had stopped using in 2015. They included photos and videos of himself, including a picture with now-wife Cherry Seaborn when they were dating, and an old undated wefie with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
In the caption, Sheeran said he had turned his old phone off in December 2015 and moved all communications to e-mail full time. But when he was sued in a copyright case, the judge ordered him to surrender the device to the opposing side's lawyers.
Sheeran, who was accused of copying Marvin Gaye's classic Let's Get It On (1973) for his 2014 hit Thinking Out Loud, eventually won the case in 2023. The case was first brought against him in 2018.
He wrote: 'In the process, I switched on my old phone. The first message was from my friend (English deejay) Jamal Edwards, who had recently passed away (in 2022). The second was from my ex-girlfriend, whom I hadn't been in contact with for years. The third was a family member I haven't spoken to in a decade. And so on. It felt like a time capsule, a time of life that I was in, and living at that time in 2015.
'Turning it on really spun me out, I found myself scrolling through messages and conversations with people who are no longer here. I found myself crying at messages to friends who are now dead, whom I won't get to speak to again. I found old photos of me with people I was so close to then, but we've lost touch since.'
He then wrote the song Old Phone. It will be released on May 1 at 11pm, Singapore time.
Pictures have been posted by the account @teddysoldphone since the end of March, but netizens took notice only when the Shape Of You (2017) singer recently tagged it on his main account.
One of the photos was from the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, showing Sheeran, boy band One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, as well as Swift and her then-boyfriend, singer Calvin Harris. Sheeran said he was 'dribbly drunk' at the time.
Other snaps show Swift eating pizza, singer Harry Styles driving Sheeran around in a car, and a night out with late American rapper Mac Miller, who died of a drug overdose in 2018.
Sheeran wrote on the post about Miller: 'Mac took me round Pittsburgh in 2015, we played a lot of pool and had a really really fun night. Miss him.'
There are also pictures of Sheeran with pop stars Bruno Mars and Ellie Goulding. Sheeran and Goulding were once rumoured to be a couple. Fans speculated that Sheeran wrote the song Don't (2014) – about a girl who broke his heart – after she allegedly cheated on him with Horan.
The account even has a picture of Sheeran with former United States President Bill Clinton, whom the singer said he once played poker with.

TikTok is not the reason we watch ‘slop', burnout is
Turning on a TV show or lying down and scrolling through a seemingly endless supply of videos on TikTok or Instagram has taken the place of drinking alcohol. PHOTO ILLUSTRATION: PEXELS Social media is often the scapegoat for just about everything wrong in modern society. The latest thing it's getting blamed for is 'slop'. Originally, the term refers to the pervasiveness of low-quality artificial intelligence-generated content that is flooding social feeds, but it has turned into a catch-all for much of today's subpar products and content. Laying all of this at the feet of social platforms is a mistake, though. Slop is not a new phenomenon. Each generation can point to moments in which the old guard decried that the latest media or gadget was brain-rotting sludge. In my lifetime, it's been everything from hip-hop and grunge music to the rise of reality television and violent video games, such as Call Of Duty or Grand Theft Auto, to the BlackBerry – which was so addictive it was nicknamed Crackberry. Hazelle Teo announces engagement to pianist James Wong, Entertainment News
Wedding bells will soon be ringing for Hazelle Teo. The Yes933 DJ, 31, announced her engagement to pianist-content creator James Wong, 24, in an Instagram post yesterday (June 6). "It was on the last day of my Qingdao work trip that this completely took me by surprise," she wrote in her caption. "I arrived at the hotel at 1am, looking like a mess and all ready to rest before heading to the airport at 6am. "But when I opened the door, I was greeted by soft orange lighting, lots of flowers, someone holding a camera, plenty of confusion… and then I saw my then-boyfriend (now fiance, lol) standing there nervously." The photo carousel Hazelle posted shows the hotel room decorated with white roses and candles, and a heart-shaped cake with "Marry me" written on it. She is dressed casually in an oversized shirt and jeans. Hazelle found out that she would not be returning to Singapore yet, as James had asked her work for leave a month in advance and had brought her spare clothes in his luggage. "He planned it all — quietly, sweetly, thoughtfully — and it turned out to be even more beautiful than I ever imagined," Hazelle added. "This feels so right. We feel so right. The rest of our lives feels so right. "We're so excited to begin this new chapter together, and thank you for sharing in our joy." [embed] Hazelle told CNA Lifestyle that she had come across James on her Instagram explore page in 2024, and reached out to collaborate. "I thought 'Hey, this guy is pretty cute. He plays the piano. Let me reach out to him to do a Taylor Swift song [where] I would sing and he would play the piano'. To my surprise, he agreed," she said. [embed] Hazelle also used the opportunity to ask for James' Telegram handle so they could talk more, but the latter wasn't initially very receptive to her attempts at conversation until she asked him out for supper one evening. "That night we spoke for a solid three hours. We just went on and on and on," she shared. "After that night, it just felt like we could still keep talking about so many more things. And that's when he became more responsive on Telegram." "I could feel the dynamics between us shift a little bit. Things between us progressed quite smoothly and swiftly, because it just felt so, so right." Germaine Tan also engaged Fellow jock Germaine Tan also shared news of her engagement to Zouk Group CEO Andrew Li on June 1. The 987FM DJ shared: "Andrew has always known my appreciation for sunsets and ocean, so he'd been planning this secretly for some time. In the Maldives, on a private sandbank, while the evening sun approached the horizon over the open ocean. It couldn't have felt more right." After Andrew made his heartfelt speech, Germaine revealed she got nervous and didn't get to respond appropriately, instead going: "What should I say now? Yes?" However, she thanked him in her Instagram post for his "patience, gentleness, and kindness" and wrote that she could not imagine life without him as her "pillar of support". Germaine also thanked her loved ones and concluded: "With that, cheers to the rest of our lives." [embed] [[nid:718815]] drimac@

Megan, half-Singaporean member of Katseye, comes out as bisexual
Megan shared that she realised she was attracted to women as early as the age of eight. PHOTO: MEGANSKIENDIEL/INSTAGRAM Megan, half-Singaporean member of Katseye, comes out as bisexual Megan, a member of the global girl group Katseye, has publicly come out as bisexual. During a live broadcast on fan platform Weverse with fellow member Lara on June 6 , the 19-year-old shared her identity with fans, stating: 'I'm coming out. I'm bisexual.' The two celebrated the moment together, jumping in place with joy. Megan, who has a Singaporean-Chinese mother and American-Swedish father, debuted in the US with the six-member group in 2024. This marks the second coming out within the group. Back in March, Lara revealed her sexual orientation through a Weverse live broadcast. She shared that she realised she was attracted to women as early as the age of eight, and confessed that she was deeply afraid when auditioning. 'I didn't know if people would accept me. I was scared it might ruin my chances,' she wrote at the time. With both Lara and Megan now openly identifying as members of the LGBTQ+ community, Katseye stands out as a rare example of queer representation in the K-pop scene. The sextet is a multinational and multi-ethnic K-pop girl group formed by South Korean entertainment company Hybe in collaboration with American label Geffen Records. The group will return with its second EP Beautiful Chaos on May 27. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.
